  1. @TheOfficeFan do you mind sharing? I am really confused between a few places and this would probably help me make a decision.
  2. Ah, given my GPA situation, it is a very, very long shot for me. I dropped a mail to Mr. Ballo asking if he could reveal some information, admission statistics, class sizes, anything at all to evaluate my chances, but he refused point blank. But he did confirm that the results will be out later this week. In his exact words: Indeed we are expecting to release our decisions by the end of the week.. So yes, even though it's excruciating, the wait should not be very long.
  3. I've applied too. And @MPPKollege is right, they tend to roll out results by mid March. Waiting with bated breath.
  4. Well it didn't help that Berkeley had among the earliest application deadlines. My SoP has seen so many iterations even since I submitted it to the university... If any of you guys have information that you're sure might be essential to an international student, do you mind sharing? I would like to know what I missed before making the decision definitely.
  5. Hey! I applied to GSPP too! My focus, however, is business regulation in technology. I applied to 10 other programs (sigh, I really wanted to get into the policy circles), and now have admits from UMN, UCSD GPS, and UChicago. UC Berkeley, though, is my top choice because the work I want to do is very well represented in the research there. As an international student, I feel like I am missing out on a lot of information because I miss most webinars (their timing is exceptionally bad), open houses and such. My entire information comes from one student at GSPP who is my senior from undergrad. Other than that, my SCiPP peer advisor had been quite helpful in the one month he worked with me. I agree with @tropisk_winter . A clear focus definitely helps the applications because you are also looked at as a prospective aid to the research at the institute. That said, my confidence level is switching between the two extremes - I have been obsessively reading my SoP, I love it sometimes, and absolutely hate it at other times! It's becoming hard to carry on the way that I am now For the last five years Berkeley has rolled out the results on the first Friday of March, so should we be expecting the results by 3rd?
  6. @L'Enfant why do you choose to mention the particular name? Also, why does it matter what people in the US think? Most international organizations are based out of Europe anyway. If the University is reputed there, why would anyone in the US matter?
  7. Hi, sorry to ping on this thread after years and years, but at the moment I am desperate. Why does the popularity of the MIT TPP seem so low on this Forum? Also, is there any place where the class size/admission data is released by MIT? Thanks!
  8. Hi @Cookiz ! Thanks for your inputs. I had a few quick questions that I'll be glad if you could answer. So given my financial condition and the three admits that I have (all without funding at the moment), Sciences Po seems like the only one I can afford without a huge financial burden. Moreover, I applied to the university because it was one of the few schools that had a concentration for my area of interest (Digital, New Technology, and Public Policy). The course structure, as you mentioned, isn't very quantitative, but the courses they do offer seem comprehensive. I have also taken a few Sciences Po classes online, they seem very theory-oriented, but provide great clarity on the topics. Also, the faculty indicated that the Policy lab component might compensate for the lack of quantitative focus in the curriculum. So my question is this: Is it wise to pick Sciences Po over, say the average universities at USA if it's cheaper? For instance, I have an admit from Minnesota (likely would be funded too), but the program isn't as aligned with my interest as the one at Sciences Po. The other admit at Harris is probably way out of my budget. I was also asked by the advisor at Sciences Po if I'd be willing to pursue a PhD at the institute. I said yes, but I don't know if the PhD is of much use if it's not quantitative. Do you have any info about this? Thanks for your help!
  9. Commenting here to keep in the loop. Chances are slim with my profile, but all one can do is hope!
  10. You mind linking them if you have ready access? I'd love to get some opinions!
  11. Didn't see a thread for MIT TPP. Where are all the folks that applied here? Also, any reason why its popularity on this forum remains low?
  12. Hey @kskishen when did you receive the notification about the Boutmy Scholarship? Just curious as my request still shows as "pending" on the portal.
  13. Hi! Thanks for starting the thread. I've applied to UofT for Master of Public Policy, having heard that the school is very involved in Technology Policy and is accepting of Indian students. Eagerly waiting for the results! BTW, with fewer international students in Canada as compared to US/UK, how are the career stats for them? Kinda concerned about this...
  14. I believe it's a separate letter. If it's not a part of the decision documents, you might not receive aid/have to contact admissions/wait for a while (probably till the official mail is received).
  15. Hi fellow applicants! I believe all of us are in the same boat when it comes to decision making. While applying to every university, I looked at the pros of their curriculum, but now that I have a few admits, I am unable to weigh them against each other to decide the precedence. Coming from a non-public affairs/government sector/humanities background, I have a basic idea of my field of study during Masters, but no prior experience to help me determine where I ultimately want to end up working. Hell, I am not even convinced I do not want a career in academics - a small research experience in the field over the last few years has me convinced that I might want to pursue a doctorate for all I know. One thing I know for sure is that I intend to return to my country, and so the regular DC career vs. other careers in the US that we regularly see on this forum do not really apply to me. The factors I am weighing in as of now are: How well the education can be extrapolated in the context of my native. The sort of research at the university in my area of interest (technology ethics) Flexibility of curriculum, that may allow me to explore the wide domain of my choice and establish a niche over the next few years Obviously, the financial aid I receive! How are you guys planning to make this very important decision ultimately?
  16. Hi @tinpants12 thanks for extending the helping hand! Could you highlight the sort of careers that international students at Harris have had in the past? I am looking at MPP and MSCAPP grads, but most information I have found is about American students at the university. Also, could you tell us why you chose to go to Harris of all the admits you might have had? helps to get some perspective on these things. Thanks!
  17. Thanks, CFGauß, that's insightful. I am actually uncertain about a PhD (since it's a long time commitment) and hence applied for the master's to test the waters. I think I will need to make the choice between the life of an academician and a professional before I decide where to head for the coming years. I'd be glad if you could answer ExponentialDecay's question.
  18. Does this mean that an international student looking for an International career should probably keep Sciences Po at a lower priority?
  19. Any idea what sort of funding is offered to international students at UCB? The website is pretty unclear, and without funding, the tuition is going to run really high!
  20. Talked to the Humphrey admissions office. They say that the funding results have not been made yet, and we should expect the results by mid-March if we do receive aid.
  21. Hi, I was recently admitted to the MPP at Sciences Po in the Digital, New Technology and Public Policy stream. Now I had applied to the course because I really liked the courses listed on the website, the policy lab component, and of course, Paris. However, I have been reading up on this forum about the University, and that has left a bittersweet taste. I do not speak French, but the course I am accepted to is taught entirely in English. From the posts on the Forum, I feel that the university's career services aren't too friendly for the international students, the administration is disorganized and the job scenario is not uplifting, even though the teaching is quite good. These posts are from a few years ago, though. I have admits from a few US universities (still waiting on the big names). Since the tuition at Sciences Po is much lower, and there's a bunch of scholarships available from our government to students studying in France, I am conflicted. Anybody on the Forum with information/opinions on the university? It's like a black box at the moment, with any info I have only coming from the School's website.
  22. I applied for the round 1 deadline this year and till the very end kept flipping between MSCAPP and MPP as my first option. Ultimately chose MPP as I am not too strong with coding anyway. Any idea how competitive converting to a PhD would be, once you are enrolled to the Masters?
  23. That really depends on a bunch of factors. What is the field you want to concentrate in? Do you want a math-heavy syllabus? Theory-intensive or applied? What's your future goal? Each university has its specialization, and thus you need to weigh in all these factors. I chose my universities based on the experience I had, and how I could use the curriculum to work towards my future goals. I like data-driven analysis, so I chose quant-heavy curricula. Some more details will help the forum members help you.
  24. Hi, This thread did not get much traction last year. I received my first admit of the season from Humphrey, but I only applied because a senior (currently doing his PhD there) classified it as a safe bet for me. Can someone shed some light on the program? I have very little idea about it.
  25. Ah, that's a relief. Thanks! Any other universities known to conduct interviews for MPP?
