  1. I submitted for the Science Studies cluster as well. I'd love to work w Dr. Epstein, but I'm also in that spot where NW does not seem like they'll like me as an applicant. If you haven't submitted your application yet, I'd probably tell you to bite the bullet and write something up. My cluster statement is pretty crappy, but I feel happy it's in there. To each their own, though--the burn out is real at this point!
  2. Same boat. Applying to #1, #6, #8, #10, #11, and #15 ranked. That being said, I knew what I was signing up for with 'em--top 20 is the goal! LOL right?? I'm checking UChicago like they're going to hit me up any minute. And hey, maybe not 3-4 months--more like 2 1/2 to get us to late February! Sounds like you're got some people in your corner! Best of luck
  3. Everything's done! Just going to revise one final time in the morning and submit it then. Best of luck! Looks like you're coming in ahead of deadlines, even by just a few days, which is always the goal IMO!
  4. Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I'm taking a break from that app and just doing UPenn and UWM right now. NW and UMAA will happen later tonight, I think.
  5. My mother is still holding out for my going to med school as plan B. Lmaooo
  6. That Northwestern app is giving me so much trouble. Cluster statement, diversity statement, quantitative fellowship paragraph/statement, my God, it just doesn't end! Congrats on the submissions. Got my IUB app in tonight too! I've got to finish my UW Madison / UM Ann Arbor / UPennsylvania / Northwestern apps tomorrow afternoon, since I have family coming into town and I just know they won't get done if I wait until Friday. The UWM app is mercifully brief, though, IMO.
  7. Some of my statements are definitely better than others. I feel like I'm a good fit at Northwestern; I also feel like I don't look good enough on paper for IUB [since they have such a short SOP!]. I feel you. Ugh. I hate editing the statements. It's like pulling teeth. I'm in the same boat on research experience and the quant score; my GRE score for verbal is great, but that quant section kicked my ass. Weird since I'm very good with statistics. It's good to see some optimism! Hopefully some of that rubs off on me.
  8. Ugh, UC Davis burned me when I was coming out of my undergrad. Thought I was a great fit, but they didn't Best of luck!
  9. Terrifying! Thanks for the kind words
  10. LOL, I feel this so much. I have 5 more apps to do. So much SOP tailoring and research. I'm trying to submit Thursday morning at the very latest. Where are you applying to?
  11. Thanks for sharing, everybody! How confident are you all about your applications?
  12. My list (not necessarily in this order: University of Chicago (submitted) Northwestern University (in progress) University of Wisconsin, Madison (in progress) Indiana University, Bloomington (in progress) University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (in progress) University of Pennsylvania (in progress) What about you guys?
  13. The program is going really well; I have a 4.0 at this point and just started data collection for my thesis. I'm hoping my LORs sell my quant skills better than my GRE does, though. My program was light as hell on quant, but I took every class they offered for it, so hopefully that counts in my favor.
  14. Haha they're buried in my wall of text, but here they are again: sociology of science (especially critically examining "science of difference", ie race and sex); medical sociology, social epidemiology, race and racism, gender and sexuality, and critical criminology How was your graduate GPA & your GRE scores? Was your full time work in the soc-related field, or something else?
  15. This is my first rodeo for PhD applications, so I wanted to make an account and share! Can't believe I didn't know about this site before. I'm a Sociology MA student right now, getting my degree in March 2018; I'm *really* hoping for a PhD program, but will probably be doing some soul searching if I don't get in. My research interests are pretty wide, but are mostly unified in some way by the sociology of science (especially critically examining "science of difference", ie race and sex); medical sociology, social epidemiology, race and racism, gender and sexuality, and critical criminology. Stats: Undergrad GPA (Psychology major) was ~3.630 Graduate GPA (Sociology MA) is 4.0 GRE is 166V, 151Q, 4.5AW (Ugh, awful except the verbal) TA and brief RA experience Some quantitative coursework Nontraditional student (about 4 years younger than normative students; this could help OR hurt me) Applying to: University of Chicago (submitted) Northwestern University (in progress) University of Michigan Ann Arbor (in progress) University of Wisconsin Madison (in progress) University of Pennsylvania (in progress) Indiana University Bloomington (in progress) Good luck everybody! I'm itching to hear back already, and a majority of my apps aren't even submitted yet.
