Well, my grad school application process is over... I am going to Miami University! I was FINALLY notified of a decision from University of Washington yesterday. They rejected me, but I'm honestly just glad I finally found out.
I just wanted to thank everyone on here for helping me through this process -- I haven't been the most active, but reading everyone's posts has been so helpful. Good luck to everyone!!

I just wanted to make sure that you knew about the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) Resolution - it states that the CGS member schools CANNOT require an applicant to give a decision before April 15th if they are being offered financial aid (scholarships), and Temple is a member of CGS, so if you were offered a scholarship of any kind, you should have until April 15th to decide....

Literally every time I get an email notification on my phone my heart skips a beat and I actually think this whole process is taking years off my life.

Some things to think about when considering offers:
First and foremost get the offer in writing. Sometimes you will get an informal phone call from the person who deals with funding. They should follow up with either and email or a letter that outlines what you were told. Make sure that you get that and keep it.  Schools are very busy at this time of year what with potential incoming students and current students who are finishing the semester so be patient.
    1. You may have received an offer of full tuition.
Does this include fees as well? Sometimes a school will offer a tuition rebate but they don't cover fees which can be 1000-2000$ or more per semester.
    2. How many years of your program is the tuition waiver for? Just the first year or the entire program?
    3. Is the waiver for the entire amount of out of state tuition? or just does the school just waive the in state amount? You want to know how much if any tuition you will have to pay.
    4. Stipends and Fellowships: If you get a Teaching Assistant Stipend (TA) or Graduate Assistantship how many hours a week do you have to work?10,20 ? ?
Does the TA/GA include health insurance? This is an excellent benefit. How many years will you receive the TA/GA for?
Is it possible to get a GA/TA  for the summer session? Not as common but doesn't hurt to ask. If so can you take a summer course and is it covered?
Fellowships don't usually include health insurance. You don't have to work for the fellowship except on your art of course.
Sometimes a school will offer small scholarships as well.
Sometimes there are scholarships you can apply for. Are there any that apply to your situation, diversity, need, etc?
    5. What opportunities are there to work on campus?
How many hours is a graduate student officially allowed to work?
Note that the whole purpose of getting your MFA is to have time to concentrate on your art and keep that in mind when committing to outside jobs.
    6. If you have been accepted to several schools you might want to negotiate.
Schools that are waiting to hear from you as to whether you will attend or not might send you an email to inquire if you are coming. This could be a good time to Inform the schools via email that you have been accepted at other schools and that you are concerned about funding/or waiting to hear about offers from other schools. You don't have to say where initially although they might ask you and you don't have to say what your other offers are unless they ask. Ask if they have room to enhance their offer. If the school has the money and really wants you there they may well come through. At the same time, some schools just don't have more money to offer even though they want you. Some schools don't give full tuition waivers to anyone. Some schools such as those in New York or Los Angeles see their location as an incentive and don't offer much if any funding.
Note that as some students decline their offers at a particular school and decide to go elsewhere, this might open up more funding to give to someone who received a lesser offer so hang in there.
    All the be$t to everyone!

I haven't seen anyone else talk about Miami University, but I figured I would go ahead and put this out there-- I got accepted with a full tuition waiver and a TA position with a stipend!

I received an interview invite from Boston U on Feb. 2, and my interview was on Feb. 22. They are going to let me know their decision by March 1!
I can't say for sure that this is normal because it's the only interview request I have received so far. Hope this helps!

    Hello All!
Since we're inching towards the end of this journey, I thought I'd share a tiny anecdote. I never went to art school and have been following this community for two years, hoping to apply fr an MFA etc each year, to see the community be there when you're anxious af, and this year I did find the courage to apply. I applied to 7 places, have been rejected by two so far, and checking this forum has become a ritual. I don't know what the future holds in store but from being a passive observer to a participant in this process has in it's way been a moment of growth for me. I hope each one of us gets accepted to the school right for us, and I wish you all a tremendous amount of success in the years to come.
    Love

Had my interview with Boston today! I think it went pretty well, but I think I tripped up on my words a couple times. I was extremely nervous, so I could be misremembering things. I hope it went well!

If I am not wrong, I think ur interviewer will be Jaya Howey and Marc Schepens, both of them are pretty cool, so I don't think u need to be nervous about it, I think u should just be urself, and everything will be cool.

cme000 got a reaction from AngryHarold in Skype vs. In-Person Interviews
I'm located in South Central United States, and I only applied to schools on the West and East coasts. I'm right there with you--I definitely cannot afford to fly out for interviews, so i'll only be able to do them over Skype. I would be more than happy to fly to all the schools if I could, but I just don't think it's in my budget :/
The only school I've heard back from so far is Boston University, and they asked which I would prefer (in-person or Skype). I chose Skype, but I'm hoping that it won't negatively impact my application :/
