Has anyone heard anything from BC recently?
-
Hey, can anyone who got in to Simmons tell me how they notified you about your financial aid? I applied on the priority deadline of 1/20. Around Feb. 13th, I think, I got a letter saying I needed to complete their financial aid form (not the FAFSA, which I'd already done back in January) before an admission decision could be made, so I did that. I've been told that they send out scholarship info with the admissions packet. I've also been told that it will be mailed to me later this month. Someone else on this forum said that the info was emailed to them. I guess I'm just wondering what the heck is going on. I tried to call the admissions office to find out, but they put me through to the director of admissions and he sounded like he was in a real hurry so I didn't push it. Any insight would be much appreciated. I've pretty much made myself sick worrying about this. Edit: Forgot to mention I got my acceptance letter on February 23rd.

Columbia MSW Applicants (Fall 2018)

Omg, I know. It's nice to have people to commiserate with, but at the same time, I don't think I would be thinking about it so much if I hadn't found this website. Now that I have though, I can't seem to stop checking it compulsively. -

Same! It seems I've gotten very invested in this despite my better judgment (I don't expect to get in). It's just the waiting that drives you crazy. I think I would be doing better if I wasn't desperate to know my financial aid offer from the one school I've been accepted to thus far, lol. -

@abswk said on the other thread that it's going by program, and everyone should hear back within 2-3 weeks. Were you advanced standing? -

No no, I meant on Columbia's part, to keep people waiting in limbo. You're fine. Sorry for the misunderstanding. -

Aha! Thank you so much for this much-needed clarification. -

Why wouldn't they waitlist the priority applicants they weren't sure about, then? I applied on 2/15 so it's not relevant to me, but I'm not sure that makes sense. Also, it seems unnecessarily cruel... -

Yeah, that is messed up, imho. You put in the extra effort to apply early, so you should get a response first... it's only fair. It seems like they're just going in totally random order. -

Gotcha, that all makes sense. Well, I can't speak for the graduate school, obviously, but I had some roommates who were in Silver while I was in undergrad, and they were genuinely some of the nicest and most passionate people that I have ever met. I kinda wish I'd tried to transfer into Silver while I was there, honestly, but I didn't figure out what I wanted to do until after I graduated. Ah well. Hindsight is 20/20. -
I wanted to like this, but apparently I am "out of reactions" for the day. Still. So true.

That's interesting, how come? As someone who went to NYU for undergrad and accrued over 40k in debt doing it, I'm not at all sure the being-in-New-York factor is worth it, unless cost isn't an issue or you got a really good scholarship. The opportunities that might come from being in the city could be worth it, though, especially if you want to live there after graduation. Just depends on how much of a go-getter you are. -

This is just so odd. I have a friend who is currently attending, and she received her acceptance last year less than two weeks after applying in early February. At the same time, I don't feel like I have enough information to be able to tell if this is unusual for them. -

Yikes. They must have been really overloaded with priority applicants. I didn't really expect anything yet, but I feel really bad for you all... -
