    I cant stop thinking about this! this was my first application cycle though so I'm telling myself that I'll get it right next year. how many did you apply to? I ended up doing 6 (rejected from 1 so far)

    do people know if Depaul has sent out all interview requests? if I didn't hear back from them yesterday should I assume being rejected? also if anyone knows if u chicago is still sending out interview requests, I've heard nothing from them

    I'm curious what are the backgrounds of students in either MIT or Harvard's philosophy PhD programs? Are there any students with non-philosophy, creative, or interdisciplinary backgrounds? MIT is consistently ranked as a top Feminist Philosophy program, however I did not see many students working in that field on their website. Thoughts on the climates of both of these departments?

    That makes me feel good to hear! I am definitely focusing my proposed research interests upon what my background is the strongest in, which have been consistent since my undergraduate work as well. I think that the main thing that could hold me back is that most of my coursework has been so interdisciplinary that I fear schools will not read that as an adequate background, in addition to only having one or two possible recommenders who are within the field of philosophy.

    I think that would definitely count as discrimination to expel someone for that? I currently know quite a few sex workers who are in graduate school and some of which are even about their line of work, however those that are open about it are both in fields that it makes sense for them to be more open minded (one in art school pursuing an MFA and one working towards a PhD in Women's Studies). Regardless, without a doubt, to punish a student and scholar for sex work would be extremely unethical, however the social backlash is a very real fear that keeps many people from being open about that.

    Can anyone share experiences with applying to PhD programs with a non philosophy MA degree? Specifically those with interdisciplinary backgrounds or those involved with the arts. My undergraduate degree focused upon philosophy, sound, and technology, while my masters is similar but with visual studies. Both of my degrees are from strong institutions and my undergrad has very high acceptance rates into phd programs, however I am coming from an arts school currently with my MA.

    Did you ever apply for a PhD? If so, how did it go? I am also looking to apply to a philosophy PhD program next fall and have an interdisciplinary/arts background.
