  1. I don't think it would hurt to talk about why you like the program as long as you tie it into why you think you're a good fit for it.
  2. My advisor liked the draft of my personal statement!
  3. The GRE is super over hyped on these forums. I've always been told it's one of the least important aspects of the application. As long as you don't fail it you'll be fine.
  4. No. The individual faculty care very little about your GRE score. They care more about your research fit.
  5. Exactly. If PIs only took people with the exact same research interests as them, there would never be any new types of research being done.
  6. I like to think I'm pretty nice.
  7. Time to start actually uploading my transcript places.
  8. My nerves about the application process have gotten worse...
  9. I think your scores are fine.
  10. I never mentioned my GRE scores in emails to professors.
  11. It also might not matter if you don't have all the necessary programming skills right away. The professor I talked to for my Skype interview was VERY into computational modeling (more so than I had thought at first--I'm more of an experimental person). I made a point to emphasize to him several times that I don't have computational modeling experience and he basically said it didn't matter, most people with a psychology background don't.
  12. You can edit the email and resend if you want. I only had one professor who didn't reply and I wasn't super interested in the school to begin with so I just took it off my list. In regards to the second part of your post, I would maybe take her advice to heart. Perhaps that program/POI isn't the best fit for you and the other ones she mentioned and that you already contacted are. If you really like this one POI, it sounds like you'll have to convince her that you're the right fit.
  13. I sent my statement of purpose for my advisor to read.
  14. I'm applying to Developmental Psychology PhD programs right out of undergrad as well.
  15. I have an outline of my entire intro/literature review for my honors thesis.
  16. Grad school is half application/half job interview while med school is 100% application. It might make sense for people applying to med school to send out a lot of applications (though I think 30 is too many), but for grad school it makes more sense to send out fewer applications to schools with which you have a greater fit.
  17. That was such a good idea. Too late for me lol. At least they seemed interested in their email responses.
  18. Also, the piece of advice I would give to you regarding your school list is this. There really is no such thing as a safety PhD program. It all comes down to research fit and a good dose of luck. That being said, you have to separate in your mind these institutions' reputation for undergrad admission vs. their reputation for graduate admission. Applying to graduate school is completely different, and if a PI really likes you and sees promise in you, that may very well get you through the door. It's still a crap shoot, but unlike undergrad, at least it's a crap shoot that makes sense.
  19. I finally got approved to be an undergrad TA.
  20. Wow, did they all offer to Skype you or did you ask some of them to set up a meeting? I was happy about being offered one Skype interview lol.
  21. It went well! The professor liked me/seemed really interested. I'm actually not sure if his lab is the best fit for me though.
  22. I finally have three professors willing to write recs for me.
