  1. Yep! Thought I would wake up to an email but alas …. No.
  2. After my third email to my institution they let me know my results! I encourage those still waiting to ask them for support on this. My grad studies department is apparently sending out further instructions to applicants this afternoon, as there are plenty of us who still haven’t received anything official from SSHRC.
  3. On the one hand, nice to to know that I can stop refreshing. On the other hand … 🤯
  4. Please keep us posted if you get a reply @chicha3maddy ! I’m also in committee 4… the urge to refresh my email every five minutes is worsening 😂
  5. I’m in the same boat! Committee four and email-less. 🙃
  6. I applied and was accepted to clinical in Canada this year with a neuroscience BSc and an MSc underway in a related field (bioethics/neuroscience) but neither of these degrees were purely psychology. I definitely felt similarly about lacking some core psych requirements so I think taking some online courses to fill in those gaps is a fantastic idea! I took the subject GRE in hopes that some schools would recognize that even though I didn't have courses like social psych on my transcripts, I could still score well compared to applicants with psych undergrad degrees. As @chopper.wife said, I'll eventually have to take some additional psych courses to fulfill licensing requirements anyways, so again, I think your plan is really solid. I personally didn't apply to a lot of schools, but those that I was rejected from tended to have more strict undergrad psyc requirements. For me, trying to fill in some of the course gaps would have also been my next course of action. I think my admission into a specifically neurospychology lab was aided by my neuroscience background, and research fit and experience play huge roles in acceptance! Having a psych-related master's, at least at my institution, may also waive your MA thesis requirement in clinical, so you have the potential to save some time there! All the best to you and let me know if you have any specific questions, happy to DM.
  7. If anyone else has accepted an offer at SFU feel free to shoot me a message! Would love to connect before starting the program
  8. PM me if you'd like to chat more about this! I did a masters in experimental medicine not knowing what I wanted to do straight out of undergrad (and learned that an academic career in "experimental medicine" wasn't the right fit for me). The high rate of mental health issues among PhD students is certainly no myth, however, it depends a lot on the kind of relationship you have with your mentors (little support = worse outcomes). I have a good hunch that smaller programs like clin psyc will lend themselves to a more supportive learning environment than programs that toss you into the ocean and expect you to emerge 4 years later with a dissertation. That being said, talking to grad students currently in the labs you're looking at is an absolutely invaluable way to get a better understanding of lab culture, research expectations, authorship, mentorship styles etc. I too only applied to a handful of schools in my area because I don't want to leave a support system that I've spent a good chunk of time cultivating -- it's definitely not a bad approach AT ALL to prioritize what you'll need to be successful in a grad program! Applying elsewhere might increase your chances (depending on the kind of research fit you have with other PIs), but it also may come at a cost to other parts of your life.
  9. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH (*cries tears of joy*) School: Simon Fraser University Concentration: Clinical Psychology (Neuropsychology) Type: MA/PhD Date of acceptance: informal acceptance - Feb 12, 2019 Notified by: Personal e-mail from POI
  10. Congrats!!! I hope I hear from my POI soon! ?? Good news or bad news any news would be nice at this point ?
  11. Does anyone have experience with full-day interviews that they’d be willing to share?
  12. Had to recheck because its already in my trash folder lol. Like @higaisha said looks to be a mass email but weirdly personalized like you would receive from a business's mailing list
  13. Why can't they just let us know these things instead of letting the app status continue to say "under review" ?
