Gender/Feminist Studies (Fall 2019)

Yeah I was confused by that. It said that they were going to hear back by mid-end of February, but I wasn't sure if that was for the shortlist of candidates who already got interview dates? -

Hey I saw someone reported an interview to Rutgers...does anyone know if all interview requests went out already?? -
very true, not sure my bank account could handle any more ?
-
hahaha yes I did lol and I’m super happy about it haha, my brain just overthinks and gets scared that that will be my only acceptance. Vanderbilt is a great program and I’d love to go there but it’s that phenomenon of wishing you had an option between two places to make it meaningful you know?? hahah that probably doesn’t make a lot of sense but serial anxiety here says it does ?
-
Has anyone else been having second thoughts lately and wished they applied to more programs?? haha nothing better to do than just think of all the what if’s while waiting to hear from schools ?
-
Accepted to Vanderbilt! Ecstatic and elated!!!
-
an even worse site than this
-
haha thanks for all your work doing the google sheet! Even though it’s anxiety inducing it’s better than knowing nothing lol!!
-
same. at this point, i just want the rejection to come already instead drawing it out.

anyone else anxiously waiting for Northwestern (which apparently almost always releases on this Thursday of January??) the anticipation is killing me lol
-
they Facebook message you so you never actually see it

CUNY’s stipend is about $25k-35k, which still isn’t a lot for NYC

Out of curiosity, are you all applying straight out of undergrad or applying with a masters/other work experience? -

Yes hopefully! All the slots on the same day looked like they were back to back to back so I’m just hoping they did that for the applicants’ convenience rather than them interviewing 50 people for 5-6 places!!! ? -

Same! I also got the interview email and I’m super nervous! There seemed like there were a LOT of slots for interviews -
I think it depends on the department. I also didn't get a great quantitative score (156) so I'm a bit worried. From what I heard, especially in more continental/pluralist oriented programs, the GRE doesn't matter too too much. For analytic departments (and assuming you didn't say you wanted to do philosophy of science or logic), I heard it matters a little more, but still where getting above 50th/60th percentile would be okay-ish. However, it can matter a LOT for university wide fellowships, since it's seen as one of the only truly comparable measures across all disciplines. For example, I know at Ohio State, you have to have an 85th percentile average across the three sections to be considered for university wide fellowships. I can't really comment on too many of your schools, but what my (amazing) advisor did for me was reach out to people they knew at the schools I was interested and asked about the weight of the gre scores when I was deciding whether to retake it or not (I didn't.)

not sure if anyone saw this already but here's a list of when notices went out in 2017. if it stays around the same, most of us have 2-3 months of waiting... https://philosophyadmissions.wordpress.com/predictions/?fbclid=IwAR3qpdneDHOX5vGthpcHonFi9FMKBs_n81Ri8_mpHGni_orasu7hqHSbteI

I'm interested in this too! Mine are about 500-600 words and not more than a single-spaced page (what I was advised).

Post here to get your worries off your chest
gradhopeful96 replied to Teaching Faculty Wannabe's topic in Waiting it Out
worries: I won't get in anywhere, my writing sample (most important part of my application) is trash, I come from an unknown, unranked school, I'm just a medium fish in a very small pond right now and my application is really a guppy excitement: my apps are done and submitted!- 274 replies
