  1. Probably some form of waitlist if applicants don’t accept interview invites or they don’t want to offer admission to those they do interview. I’m a grad student at UNL and can confirm we sent out our interview invites the first week of January.
  2. For clinical programs, none of my interview/travel expenses were covered but I know some programs do.
  3. Black jeans are appropriate. That’s what I wore to the social events.
  4. I would echo what @PsyDuck90 says. There’s additional courses you need to take (Houston guidelines) and you need A LOT more assessment hours compared to those non-neuropsych focused. Typically, neuropsych focused individuals spend an extra year in their program before internship because of these extra courses and requirements to be competitive for internship.
  5. I can’t speak to what the OP said but that, to me, sounds like the PI is trying to understand more about you as a person. My mentor and I really connected on both of us being hikers so I think it’s important to show who you are, outside of academia. Another common question is what would you do if you weren’t going into psychology and I didn’t get that question but I was going to say be a baker. Just my two cents!
  6. I remember last year not seeing anything about Temple but my friend got an interview. Not everyone is on grad cafe.
  7. Current grad student here. Yes, that’s totally fine and you wouldn’t be viewed like that! Someone in my cohort doesn’t drink and still comes out with us all the same - not a “stick in the mud” at all. Just be yourself! I’m happy to answer more questions if you DM me ?
  8. Of the 3 faculty I interviewed, only 1 really asked me questions and the big one was the classic “if you had all the money and resources and IRB approval, what study would you design?” The interview process is really about YOU interviewing them once you make it to the weekend (some programs even call it a recruitment weekend because now they’re trying to recruit you). As others have said, never run out of questions to ask. You’re trying to assess your fit with the faculty and program. Also, treat grad students/admin etc with the same amount of respect as you would faculty. Some applicants let their guards down more around current students and it can be a kiss of death if they say anything inappropriate. My PI asks that we spend as much one on one time with the applicants for our lab for this very reason.
  9. Yes. We had an orientation prior to the first week of classes but they’ll tell you when you need to be on campus by in your formal offer letter. We started the second to last week of August.
  10. It is appropriate but better to just not. I didn’t drink at any of the social events last year.
  11. People that have been previously involved in the research there so either undergrad RAs or post-bacs.
  12. That program historically recruits from within, unfortunately and typically, if a faculty indicates that they’re accepting a student then they will but things can change regarding funding or they may not match with a student well and take no one even after interviewing.
  13. Email the grad coordinator.
  14. Clinical student here. I kept in all my earrings (I have my rook & tragus in addition to lobes) and my nose piercing. Someone in my cohort has ear gauges and she obviously kept them in for interviews.
  15. No, you definitely don’t need to wear makeup!! I did because I do sometimes for special events so I’m comfortable doing that but by no means do you need to.
  16. I wore jeans and sweaters for all social events. Didn’t wear leggings once all weekend.
  17. I second this! I did very light makeup and a tinted lip balm. I don’t usually wear much makeup anyways (usually none at all) so some mascara and foundation was all I did.
  18. It depends by program but all applicants for clinical psych will be in suits. Other disciplines are maybe more laidback.
  19. Congrats! I’m a clinical PhD student there so I can’t speak to this specific program but let me know if you have any questions about Lincoln/the psych department ?
  20. It seems more schools are conducting informal interviews this year but it’s a program/PI preference. I did mock interviews with the post doc in my lab before going on interviews to get some practice and feedback if there’s anyone who could do the same for you!
  21. They sent all their initial interview offers out but won’t reject people in case there’s an opening for interview weekend, etc.
  22. I would definitely recommend a 2 year post bac to gain more research/work experience. I didn’t go to a “top tier” undergrad institution but I did my post-bac at a R1. I also don’t know how much a PhD admissions committee would care about a perfect SAT score because it’s from high school, as opposed to a perfect GRE score from college but that’s just my two cents about that.
