  1. Yea I’m really hoping to hear one way or another from Hunter soon... I’ve heard of others asking for extensions on enrollment deposits, so you may want to try that if waiting is cutting too close to the deadline.
  2. I applied to their full time regular track (2 years) in early January and haven’t heard back yet either. I know their official deadline was January 30th and it’s not rolling admissions so I’m not expecting to hear back anytime soon... but it would be great if we did!!
  3. Hi! I’m 4 years out of undergrad (majored in psych and sociology) and am currently working at a policy research firm, so not super relevant to direct service work. But I’ve done a lot of volunteering and have been interested in going back for medical social work for awhile. I applied to a bunch of other schools in addition to Hunter (UMich, Boston, Pittsburgh, SUNY Albany). And am still waiting to hear back from most of them. I was accepted to UM but it’s pretty pricy so I’m not sure if I can afford to go. Hunter is the most affordable option, so it’d be great to get in, but I also don’t know if I want to remain in the city haha.... wishing you the best of luck and hoping your last semester is going well!!
  4. Yea, the HRSA program is an amazing opportunity and fits my career interests really well. I am definitely leaning towards UM because of this, so am now just trying to figure out ways to finance this degree. I think with any CSWE accredited school, our chances of passing the exam or being hired are about the same, though I’m sure the name would certainly give a leg up, especially if we ever want to move into more management or admin roles later on!
  5. I asked about the status of my integrated health application and I was told the committee is still deciding. Not sure when we can expect to hear back, but hopefully in the next week or so! And the School of Social Work will email out a separate fin aid award, so if you’re checking wolverine for your fin aid package, you probably won’t see any updates just yet (unfortunately!!) And thank you!! Yes, I’m planning to do medical social work as well. Are you decided on UM or are you still waiting on other schools? It’s just so expensive, I’m not sure if I can justify the price.... ?
  6. Hi all, just wanted to provide an update that I finally received fin aid info, specially info on my special programs application. I submitted to 3 and found out the status of 2 of them: declined for detroit clinical scholars, accepted for HRSA integrated behavioral health trainee program. The third, integrated health, I’m not sure if they’re still deciding or if they mistakenly left out the rejection letter in my package? Other than the special program notice, I didn’t receive other merit awards. Did anyone else get their package yet? Is it the norm to only receive a special program award (if you applied for it) and not any other merit awards? I am extremely excited about this award for sure—it’s making my ability to go to UM more of a reality!!!
  7. Wow, you submitted your materials really early! That is so frustrating that you still haven’t heard back. I was thinking maybe they wanted to wait until they had a large enough pool for the group interview...but it seems more likely the delay is due to limited admin support. Is Hunter your first choice? And for any other schools you may have been accepted into, do you need to give a decision any time soon?
  8. Thanks for your reply—that makes sense why it’ll take longer to hear back from Hunter. I’m just glad to know others haven’t heard back either. I was worried that that may mean a rejection at this point!
  9. I haven’t seen a thread started for fall 2019 yet, so decided to create one so we can anxiously wait on decisions together. I applied for the full time clinical track in late December (12/28 specifically) and was hoping the sooner I applied the sooner I’d hear back...but no such luck. Has anyone heard anything yet? I’m thinking of reaching out in the next few days or so, to see when we can expect to hear back. UMich is requiring a decision by 3/15 so I’d really love to hear back from Hunter well before that date!
  10. Congrats!!! It’s nice to finally see admission decisions rolling in! Hopefully the ones I’m waiting on (BU, Hunter, Suny Albany) will be next!! ??
  11. I’m interested in pursuing the clinical track but not necessarily interested in therapy—I am still open to it and would like to take classes in it. But in terms of career goals, I’m interested in medical social work and I think that’s more a mix of case management, advocacy, and maybe some therapy? But it’s not a big component as far as I know. And long term, I’d be interested in management or supervision roles, maybe program management or something like that. I want to get a MSW because of the social justice focus and how versatile it is. I can decide to get a LCSW and open a private practice if I choose to go that route. I can go into policy work (though may be a bit harder since my focus isn’t macro). I can definitely eventually land in some sort of non profit administration role, at least combined with my current professional experience. And I think direct practice will help ground me/give me the credibility I’d need to eventually serve communities in a more macro way. As for your career goals, a MSW can definitely get you there. I don’t know enough about the other degrees to speak to how much easier it is to get into therapy, but from what I’ve heard, the other degrees are more limiting/less transferable. If you ever decided therapy was no longer for you, it may be more difficult to make a career switch, whereas with a MSW, I think the options are just broader. So you lose the specialization that a MFT may give you, but you gain marketability with a MSW, especially if you want to keep your options open. That’s just my take on it, and why a MSW is personally a better fit for my interests. Hopefully others can chime in too! I know it’s easy to second guess yourself, but you were drawn to the MSW program for a reason, so try not to lose sight of that!
  12. I’m still waiting! I haven’t heard back from the local MSW program I applied to but if I get in, it’ll be hard to turn down because it’s way cheaper than the other programs I’m considering.
  13. Yep, assistantships! Those seem so hard to nail down but if you successfully get one, you’ll be pretty much set. And I’ve also been looking at scholarships and you’re right, the criteria usually are so narrow or the deadlines have passed....unfortunately if you’re applying to any now, it’ll likely be for the next academic year (as far as I can tell). But maybe it’s a matter of taking on a lot of loans your first year and then finding more external aid for your 2nd. And perhaps there are scholarships available for current students to apply to? The infosession might tell you more. I wish you the best with all of this too. It is definitely not an easy decision to make.
  14. Never heard of that acronym either, but love it!! Congrats on making your final decision to go to Pitt. The debt is definitely a real concern and very scary. I’m sure you’ve done your research already, but now that you know you’ll be going there, one way to alleviate your financial concerns is seeing if there are external scholarships you can apply for (which yes, will be stressful to do, but at least you’ll feel like you’re making some progress in this area of concern!) or see if any GSSA positions are offered or part time jobs on campus, etc. This is a big investment into your future, but hopefully it will be well worth it.
  15. I received the email first, then found the decision on the portal site later. I think that’s the order other people have received it too, but as long as you see the decision on your wolverine access, it’s probably fine you didn’t get the enail too! And I’m also pursuing the 2 areas you mentioned, but in regular standing.
  16. Yep I got that email too and momentarily freaked out thinking they didn’t receive my application materials or something (especially with those emails people began sending out asking if their application was received!) I guess no news is still good news at this point! March 1st is the official last deadline for the special programs, but I’m hoping we’ll hear back before then. I’d love to make a decision soon too!!
  17. Congrats!!! I received that same email and I never did receive another “official” notification. Instead, when I checked wolverine access a few weeks back (I’ve been checking for fin aid info obsessively lol) I noticed a “check decision” link with my acceptance. So maybe that’s the official notification? I haven’t heard anything about scholarships or special program acceptances yet. My fin aid package is just loans and work study still.
  18. Hey, just wanted to say good luck as you begin working on your applications—it definitely is scary to put your achievements on paper and hope the admissions committee is able to see all that you have to offer, but the effort is so worth it. And just think, in a few months time, you’ll be accepted into a program that’s the best fit for your interests! I don’t know anything about the Utah program but hopefully there are others on this forum who can speak more on that.
  19. I’m sorry you didn’t get the offer you were hoping for. I know it must feel really disappointing. From the other thread, it seems like you’re still planning on accepting the offer? Are you going to try asking them for more?
  20. Thank you! I really hope Pitt works out for you and you get your scholarship information soon!!! I know it’s so hard to wait, but it’s out of our hands and even if we worry, it won’t change the results! Or at least, that’s what I keep telling myself haha
  21. I was accepted 1/9 but only got the physical letter on 1/17 (I’m also based in NY, if that helps to put it in context!) And in terms of my GPA/stats, I graduated with a 3.8 in psychology and sociology. Since graduating, I’ve been working for the past 3 years at a policy research firm so in my statement, I talked about the macro perspective I would bring. Though actually I’m interested in direcr practice so it’s somewhat of a career switch for me. I’ve been interested in social work for awhile though (and have a decently long history of volunteering and interning with non profits on a range of social issues, but mainly working with low income families) so it’s more like I’m returning to my roots . Hope this helps!
  22. Thanks! I guess I was hoping for at least half to be covered, but maybe that was to much to hope for. I submitted mine really early, around November or so (just to get it out of the way!) Maybe that’s why I got the info so early!
  23. I actually just received my acceptance in the mail and it had info on merit scholarships. I was awarded $12,000 in total for the year. I haven’t checked last year’s thread to see if this is the average amount or not. While I’m thankful I received something, as an out of state applicant, that still leaves more than half I’d have to pay out of pocket. The numbers seem really daunting. Has anyone else received numbers yet?
