    Re: multiple offers
Per CUDCP, in case people were unaware of etiquette and guidelines:
“6. A student should not hold more than two offers for more than one week unless there is specific information (e.g. a visit is scheduled, funding decisions, advisor decisions) they are waiting to receive from the program. Difficulty making up one’s mind is not considered an adequate excuse to limit the options available to other applicants. Holding multiple offers ties up slots, preventing programs from making offers to other students. This is a complex principle operationalized in the points below.
    a. It is legitimate for students to want to visit a program, if they have not done so already, before making decisions among offers. Such visits should be scheduled as soon as practical after the offer of admission is received. If after a visit to a program the student decides that the program is rated lower than a program that the student has already been offered admission to, the student should inform the lower rank program that they will be declining their offer.
    b. Whenever possible, the student applicant should inform training programs by phone or email of a decision, following up within 24 hours with a written confirmation of that decision.
    c. Once a student has accepted an offer of admission to a Graduate Training Program, the student should inform all programs in which they are currently under consideration that they are either declining outstanding offers of admission or no longer wish to be considered for admission. Students should contact by phone or email those programs that have offered them admission.”
oof. They don’t even mention 3 offers! Here is more info, bc benefit of the doubt, maybe people are unaware...

Was just about to say that!  It's good etiquette to NOT hold multiple offers. Because realistically, you are deciding between TWO choices/schools, not between 3+. It's a stressful time for everyone so please let go of one of your offers so your spot can be given to someone else who is just as anxious. Thank you!

Regarding the Yale post...if you have 3+ offers it is important to narrow those down! It is etiquette to not hold on to more than two offers at once.

Nice. A good way to pass time ? I love my dog... never asks if I found out yet where I will go... or if... (I think it is enough that I ask myself these questions, don't need to hear it from others ???)

I've decided that my reward to myself once I get to grad school is going to be a cat or dog of my very own, so clearly I spend all of my days browsing petfinder in each city where I could end up...

Congratulations to those with acceptances and sending good vibes to those with rejections!
I was just waitlisted at my top choice school after interviews. Going to think positive but can't help feeling like I'm in waiting purgatory again like when I was waiting for interview invites..

Honestly it really depends on the program, it's so variable. One program I'm waitlisted on literally waitlisted everyone that interviewed except for the few that were offered the first round of acceptances. Others had a waitlist started after phone interviews, even before in person interviews were conducted. As for your question, grad students told me that it is perfectly fine to ask about how many people are waitlisted, what your position on that waitlist is, and the chance of being accepted off of the waitlist. They said that it is mandatory for professors to answer these questions because they are bound by the APA (don't know how much truth there is to that because I have never heard about it). However, I myself am still reluctant to ask any questions like that, however I did ask one of my POIs about whether waitlisted applicants have been accepted historically and received an answer and was told that I am more than welcome to ask any other questions about it.

I think it depends...there are some areas of the country where the cost of living is just absurd and even a really reputable program might not be able to provide a comfortable stipend.

Yes. Even if it's a phenomenal program as far as education and research, you don't want to take loans since your career options aren't going to be high paid after you finish (and there are so many opportunities to get a good education without loans)

So I wasn’t personally asked this question, but one of my fellow applicants was asked by their POI what they would consider doing for their dissertation and how they would go about constructing it. If I was asked that question I would be extremely perplexed because that’s something I haven’t even finalized thinking about yet and even the other grad students were confused as to why it was asked. In any case, at least be prepared for that.

Haha congrats then! Maybe I should have hoped that my POI and the other faculty hadn’t lured me into a false sense of security by responding since I was immediately waitlisted lol. Oh well!

I agree with @Waiting272, don’t get discouraged or second guess yourself! I know that one of my POIs had gotten sick and therefore took a couple days to respond. I’m sure everything will work out.

Eh... If it was my only offer, I'd still go for it. If there are other programs with guaranteed funding through writing, then I may pick them instead. You have to list your pros/cons for each school and make the best decision for you.

What is your opinion on schools that don't necessarily guarantee funding but state that every student thus far has been funded every year?
