  1. Does anyone have thoughts on Greensboro? And where do the graduate students tend to live?
  2. Hi, all! Boosting this. Where do the grad students tend to live these days?
  3. Hi all! I've been trying to gather some resources for applications, so I thought I'd share: Information for All Application Materials: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1eZ1CMG-bZQlPtB6OkduFy0Qq2-uS-mjH?usp=sharing And https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1INKBbyDCCNqSPDMIqK8kpdLk9k8Pqyof And https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1pPBtq9yIuPieP4kOgJIL0QVZJDng7Xgd Forums: Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology - http://sscpweb.org/whats_new Fall 2022 Discord - https://discord.com/channels/840023597229539338/840023597229539343 Advisor Directory (not really filled out much, but people can add to it) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KbEtWMWspYEfVw19xs3Sq3TVx4cFkQN0/view Statement of Purpose Examples: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qFBLNH3TAkOz7fIzXrfYxYV64D0OyEFS?usp=sharing Full Guide for Clin Psych Careers and School http://clinicalpsychgradschool.org/ Mitch Prinstein Advice Page http://mitch.web.unc.edu/professional-development/ Queens University Advice Page https://www.queensu.ca/psychology/graduate-program/prospective-students Mitch Prinstein “Getting Into Grad School” Video https://youtu.be/f-5DjLRKCHQ Mitch Prinstein BIPOC Grad School Panel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcC9GrWeamk Application Book https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1433830116/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Application Book 2 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1462541437/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 JOBS http://clinicalpsychgradschool.org/pbacc.php * https://www.socialpsychology.org/forums/jobforum/ * Reach out to companies / researchers you’re interested in ** https://psychologyjobsinternships.wordpress.com/ *TIP: When a job is listed on the HR website, it’s usually too late!! Employers often want someone quickly, and HR takes months to list positions. Usually they have someone in mind and have interviewed prior to even listing the role. **TIP: Reach out to potential employers! Research assistant roles have high turnover (1-3 years) because employees go off to school. The beginning of the summer (or a little before) is when employers will often start looking for new staff. 4. Hi, all! I'll be applying to Canadian programs again this year as an international (American) student. Last year, I was told that very few schools would have funding for international students given... all that was 2020. Does anyone have insight into what the current situation is like? I'm interesting in pursuing a degree in Canada, but I don't want to be shooting myself in the foot. Thank you!
  5. Hi! For the folks who have heard from Rutgers (PhD), do you have any additional details about the process? I applied to EK/JH. It looks like, from the results page, EK sent out at least one invite today. And JH seems to have already held prelims. Any additional details are appreciated!
  6. I haven't heard back from George Mason! I did see some interviews go out in the results page, though.
  7. Hi all, I'm curious. Is anyone else here interested in researching self-harm? And if so, where did you apply? I had a tough time finding a lot of programs to apply to. So, now that I'm sitting, waiting for interviews, I'm wondering more and more about my program fit.
  8. Any word from Fordham? I know their mass email said interviews should be sent out by tomorrow ?
  9. Hi all! I was wondering if anyone knows what the timeline is like for Queen's. OR, has anyone heard about their ability to take international students this year? ? I'm specifically interested inJS Thank you!
  10. I don't know for sure, but I HEARD from a current Yale student that they always do preliminary interviews. That's the only info I have.
  11. Not an original thought, but I love this one: How has your lab navigated COVID? It tells you about how adaptable and innovative the team is, and it tells you about the lab culture. If the PI had everybody working in the lab unnecessarily in the height of the pandemic, well...
  12. Also waiting on this news! ?
  13. Does anyone know what the Yale timeline/process is like? I've seen a couple of posts about preliminary interviews on the results page.
  14. No problem! I got the former ? Maybe not hearing anything from them isn't such a bad sign then. Maybe you're heading toward a wait list! I've only heard from one of my schools (wait list), and I'm getting pretty antsy.
  15. I've seen both rejections and interviews for Case Western. They started sending things out in mid December.
  16. I'm applying to both US and UK schools, and I'm not sure what to do! Some UK decisions will come out in May/June/July. How do I navigate this? It would obviously be foolish to deny any US acceptance ~in case~ I get into a UK school. Is there was to request an early decision? I'm sure plenty of people apply to multiple countries--what do they do?
  17. Update: 2 schools have now confirmed May/June/July decisions. I don't know how to navigate these two systems! It's as if applying in 2 countries is the craziest idea anyone has ever heard! ?
  18. Hello! I need some advice. I want to apply to schools in the US, Canada, and UK, but there's an issue... In the US, students must commit to a grad school by April 15th. In the UK, it seems as though schools may not be releasing decisions until June/July (specifically DClinPsy programs). Does anyone have advice for navigating this timing issue? I want to apply in both countries, but that's pointless if I have to either turn down all US programs or commit to one US program before even knowing if I have a place in a UK program.
  19. HI @jmm0548 I haven't seen anything directly related to that. I'd be skeptical just because of all the troubles I've had. The US and UK systems ~apparently~ do not work very well together. I just got notice today that my BA in psych isn't valid over there. So, that's a bummer. That being said, I've seen US programs that don't require a BA in psychology. The personal statement is a great place to address weaknesses in your application... maybe you could spin it! Tell the reviewers why your background in administration is a strength. Or, maybe you could reach out to potential advisors. Ask them if they would consider someone with your background a good fit.
  20. Wow! They finally made a call. Thanks for sharing! I'm sure programs will follow.
  21. Hi, all! I'm trying to see if it's at all feasible for me to get a clinical psychology degree (DClinPsy) in the UK. One of the main issues I've run into is related to visas/right to work without restriction. There are a couple of schools accepting self-funded applicants, but most seem not to be. For example, I really had my eye on the University of Edinburgh, but I can't receive NHS funding if I'm not from the EU/EEA, and I can't opt for a self-funded option. It seems like I'll only be able to apply if I can find a way to "work without restriction." I have no real connection to the UK or dual citizenship that would help. I did have a temporary student visa a couple of years ago, if that's anything I could build off of... I also have friends there. Are there any routes I can look into? Another issue: Apparently, it's very hard to international applicants to find work in the UK after a DClinPsy, because the NHS doesn't like giving out visas and you can really only work for the NHS (is what I've heard). But, maybe that's a problem for another day. I've even looked into on-the-side au pair jobs, but a family willing to hire me couldn't figure out the visa situation! Is there anything I can do?
  22. I looked into all the masters programs last year and couldn't find a good solution. Now, I'm looking into DClinPsy. Problem here is that most schools don't seem to accept "self-funded" students. But, they also won't fund you if you're non-EU/non-EA. So, I'm not sure where to go with that. And, I don't see any good way to get a visa. I'm happy to chat if you want to work on figuring this out together! I've been doing a fair amount of research.
  23. I'm also having trouble finding information. In fact, a lot of schools don't even seem to be accepting self-fund applicants. I'm having trouble even finding places where I can apply for the degree I'd like. Have you discovered anything about visas for non-EU students? I'm trying to find out if there's any way I can get the right to work without restriction.
  24. @PsyDuck90 Unfortunately, I've seen that This has been something I've wanted to do, so I'm trying to view the pros/cons. If I need to get re-licensed, then that may just be an issue I tackle when it comes up. I'm also not entirely opposed to just staying in the UK (if they'll have me). @psychapplicant21 "I think it is very difficult to get a job as a Psychologist in the UK after your training is completed. Almost all qualified trainees apply for Psych jobs in the NHS and the NHS will not hire anyone without a valid visa and it's difficult to get this after training." Yikes!! The visa issue seems to be one of the biggest stumbling blocks. People study in the UK--I'm just not sure how they do it! I've also seen that a large number of schools aren't accepting self-funded students. Honestly, PsyDs in the US are a good chunk of money (and longer than the ClinPsyD), so I'd be alright with a self-funded option.
