Focus on other things you enjoy. Spend time with friends, talk about things that aren’t academia, read a book, Netflix, etc.
We have no control over the result now so What we can do now is just take a deep breath and wait for the emails to trickle in over the coming weeks.

Best of luck ? we’re all in this together

    I second this very strongly.
I've said this before: acknowledging that your part is done is already part of your graduate education. It's a way of admitting you don't have control over everything. Believe me, this will not be the last time you click "submit" and anxiously wait for answers. You will be applying for funding, fellowships, jobs in the next five, six, eight years.
@Sigaba is right on point in suggesting look after yourselves. Expectation can trigger anxiety and it's certainly not worth it because, at this point, there is nothing you can do regarding the admission process. At this point, focus on the next thing. In fact, go out and celebrate, you completed all these damn applications while working/finishing school/ writing a thesis. You contacted scholars and did your research, you are already amazing. Remember that because academia can sometimes make you forget it...

    ALCON--
Please resist the understandable urge to read the tea leaves and the rolls of the bones.
Instead, I encourage you to find strength in the knowledge that you have all worked very hard to  get to this point and that you've done the best that you can under the circumstances to put forward the best version of yourself in your application materials.
Instead, I urge you to invest your time and your energy in matters where the outcomes are in your control: your current courses, assignments, and research projects. If you're in the private sector, you can focus on your projects and the needs of your team mates. Such an investment will have the added benefit of developing your ability to stay focused in stressful situations.
If you cannot focus on academics or work, focus on taking care of yourself in ways that have immediate benefits. A good meal, time with friends, reading for pleasure, "Netflix and chill," some physical activity, a good night's sleep. If you can, tune out of social media and this BB for a few days.
Right now, at this very moment, individuals against whom you will compete for funding, jobs, and professional awards are developing their trade craft. For some, it is because they "know" they're getting into Happyland University. For others, it is because they don't know but they understand that graduate school is hard and that they need every moment that they can get studying their craft.

At Emory:  applications recommended by POIs are going to the graduate committee, who makes final decisions on admissions, on Friday or the latest on Monday!

I just had my interview with Yale and they said the committee will make their final selections tomorrow. Then it will take up to two weeks to have it approved and released by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Hope this helps clarify things for anyone waiting on Yale.

Good luck with your interview! Has anyone else heard back from Yale in the US history field?

According to last year’s thread Harvard’s acceptances go out between 1/31 and 2/7 (aprox.) and rejection letters were received around 2/14.
I don’t believe they require an interview.
Wishing you the best of luck! I’m at Oxford and the decisions were rolling for Masters students, not sure about decisions and interviews for the Ph.D.

Just received my first acceptance from Ohio State University! Received a nice email and then a congratulatory follow up email from my POI later in the day. I know I should respond within the next 24 hours at least acknowledging the acceptance, but also am not sure how to go about it since I will obviously be waiting for a decision until I hear back from the other schools. How does one go about responding to these emails? I'm super excited for my first offer, I certainly did not expect to hear back so soon!

Just wanted to let you know that the history professor I talked with at Yale said that things are moving relatively quickly so the earliest we might hear back will be in the next 10 days. Good luck to everyone!

I wouldn't worry about being focused on Irish history as being "too niche".  You will have a major field in Modern Europe, which will prepare you for applying to any "Modern European history" job.  You will have themes in your work that you can apply for thematic-focused positions as well.  I have seen several posts for Irish history here in the US and in the UK.  Your goal is to demonstrate the importance of Irish history and why historians should not overlook it.  You will be fighting an uphill battle but your passion for it will gain you some recognition and respect.

Hi all. New to this forum and wanted to introduce myself.
I graduated with a BA in Sociology and minor in History from a fairly high ranked liberal arts college last May. My research interests are focused on the history of Irish working-class women's organizing during the Troubles.
I applied to eight schools. I applied to History programs at Boston College, Columbia, CUNY, Notre Dame NYU, Rutgers, and Yale. I also applied to the joint PhD in Women's Studies and History at UMichigan.
I can read Spanish and am in the process of learning Irish which is killing me softly. I have a decent amount of research experience and have presented at one conference. I'm most nervous about my research being a bit too niche (the market for Irish history is pretty much non existent it feels like sometimes) and basically not being prepared for actually applying. I'm a first-generation student from a working-class background so I kind of just went into PhD applications figuring things out as I went and rolling dice. I haven't heard anything back and it's just now really started to stress me out.

In many schools, class began last week/today/next week. That means that different schools will have different meeting times for AdComms (and I am not even taking into consideration the quarter system).
    Just rest and have fun!

I applied to the American History PhD program at Wisconsin. Back near the middle of December they sent an email to all applicants informing them that they received over 200 applications. Would you assume that is just over 200, closer to 250, or just shy of 300? I read in another thread that last year they sent acceptance notifications around February 11th. For those admitted to the UW last year, what was your CV, in a nutshell?

Hey I am at Oxford and while your SoP is important, the strength of your writing sample and your ability to match with the work of your Supervisor is most important. While my proposal was different from my undergraduate work, I know several people in the MSt whose proposals were an extension of their undergraduate work. It is expected your research question will change while in your masters so don’t fret too much.
If you want anymore advice on applying to OxBridge, I offer consulting services and would be happy to speak to you!

Hey Everyone! I am new to GradCafe and am excited to go through this process with you all. I graduated from UCLA with a BA in History and African American Studies and am currently working on my MSt at Oxford. I run a YouTube Channel and consulting business for students seeking advice, application assistance, funding etc. during undergrad or who are considering applying to Oxbridge. The channel is @TheRedHeadAcademic if any of you are interested! Would love to hear about your interests and see if any of you have advice for my channel that would be helpful for my followers.
I have applied to 5 Ph.D. programs with a focus on Colonial America. Any other Americanists on this forum?
Thanks! and Fingers Crossed for the coming weeks!
