I'm having doubts...
amanda_rensch replied to heyheyhey42's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I am feeling this too. I was between Marquette and Michigan State. I didn't get into my top two schools which were UT and Vanderbilt. I'm worried I made the wrong choice of choosing Marquette over Michigan State. Going to a Big 10 school would have been so cool and I could skate on one of the top figure skating teams in the country. However, I would probably only skate for 1 year due to grad school demands and the exams at the end of MSU's program seem excessive (an oral and written exam on top of taking the Praxis). I worked my BUTT off in undergrad and I don't want to make my life 10x more stressful I try to look at what I gave up versus what I traded for. I say "okay, I gave up this and that sucks, but here's what I gave it up for" -
I got an email from University of Texas about 3 weeks ago saying I could have the option of moving myself from the denied list, to the wait list. This was my top choice program so obviously I was sudden to reply and give them my phone number to call. Wondering if anybody has gotten this email or has been called back? I'm really confused

Marquette vs. Michigan State

Just worried about the commute to class, skating practice, coaching, and clinical placements! Is it hard to get around? Hard to find parking? -

With literally HOURS to decide, I cannot make a decision. Pros and cons to both schools, no school is going to be absolutely perfect. I plan to skate on their skating teams, Michigan State will be more demanding (skating-wise), but possibly more rewarding. I am worried about the oral examination and extra final examination at MSU, but it's not a huge deal. Also, worried about living in Milwaukee. Would love ANY and ALL input on either of these schools.

SLP Declining Offers 2020
amanda_rensch replied to futurespeechpath1's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Have already declined my offers at Tennessee, Boston University, UCONN, and Penn State. Planning on declining Sacred Heart, Saint Mary's, Minnesota, UT Health, PITT, and Arkansas. Hopefully this helps out quite a few people! I am currently deciding between Marquette and Michigan State, would love any input if you have it! -
What helped make your decision? HELP

Congratulations to everyone for working so hard on applications, being accepted, and making a graduate school decision! I was accepted to 12 schools. I have already declined my offers from UCONN, University of Tennessee, Boston University, and Penn State. However, I have 8 more I am still so unsure about. There are pros and cons about each school, but I don't know how to rate one next to another. I would love to hear from anyone on what helped make your decision, what were the leading factors? What were your top priorities? I'd also like to hear from anyone who knows ANYTHING, good or bad, about the schools I was accepted to! -
I actually attend Saint Mary's for undergraduate right now!! Feel free to message me with any questions and I would be more than happy to answer!!

I'd also like to know about Michigan State! I wasn't accepted to Wisconsin, but MSU is probably one of my top choices -

I finally got all my graduate school decisions! I was accepted to 12 out of the 16 schools I applied to. While I was rejected at my top 2 schools, I am still incredibly proud of myself. I have a lot of decisions to make within the next month. Wishing everyone luck with their decisions as well! -
Is Coronavirus Affecting Your Decisions?
amanda_rensch replied to sjewell's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Congratulations to everyone that has been accepted! It's been a long time coming. I was recently accepted to many amazing programs. I was unfortunately rejected at my top 2 choices, so I'm still upset about that. I declined my offers at Tennessee and Boston University. I actually went to Boston and was impressed with the program, but did not like the hassle of commuting everywhere around the city, especially when I would be skating on their figure skating teams and coaching at rinks around the area. With this, I am having to make a decision on where I want to go. I am from San Antonio, Texas so I know a lot about Texas and northern Indiana, where I currently attend college. If anyone can give me any insight to the cities in which the schools I was accepted are in, any concerns or pros, cost of living, commute, etc. that would so awesome! With the coronavirus, I am unable to go and actually tour and visit campus, so I'm a little lost as to what I should do, any advice from people who are familiar with that area or even state, would be so greatly appreciated. -
Saint Mary's College has an on campus clinic and is shutting down till April 13. Luckily, I did my clinicals last semester and got my hours, so I do not have to worry, but I know many of my classmates are concerned about getting their clinical clock hours. I think reaching out to your supervisors may provide you with more information. You may have to stay after graduation to complete them.

I love the city, however, I am worried about commutes to class, skating practice, and coaching figure skating. Is getting around the city in a vehicle difficult/time consuming? Is parking hard to find? I am from San Antonio, TX so I do a lot of traffic driving on the highway and such, I am just worried about getting to class, clinical placements, coaching, and practice myself.

I also was accepted to these two programs. I honestly know NOTHING about Penn State or PITT or even Pennsylvania for that matter! My first trip to the east coast was a trip to Boston University for their interview. I've only seen the south and the midwest haha. Any advice on city life, campus life, the programs in general, etc. would be much appreciated! I'm trying to decide where would be best for me. I am a figure skating coach and am also planning on skating on either of their collegiate figure skating team's so any information on how commuting is, would be awesome!

UT San Antonio sent out my acceptance letter a while back, I'm not sure if they do them in waves though. The whole city of San Antonio is freaking out right now, so it might be that delaying it. I live here and am currently on double spring break as Notre Dame extended it and is moving online until April 13.

I am actually from San Antonio! I honestly love SA so much I am probably going to move back here after grad school. It's such a great city and such a great place to be. Great weather, amazing places to eat and shop, it's truly a wonderful city. I was born in San Antonio and then my family moved to MN. We realized we hated MN and loved SATX, so we decided to come back. My dad loves practicing medicine here. Awesome place to live! -
Hoping to hear back soon too, I was just thinking the same. Hopefully by the end of this week we will find out.

UT Austin Fall 2020
amanda_rensch replied to gradgirl2016's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Just heard back as well. I'm honestly heart broken. Probably my top choice and in my home state. I had research experience, high GPA, high AW score, volunteer experience, shadowing experience, practice in clinical with a patient, published work in neuroscience. BUT, my GRE scores were not high, so that definitely hurt me -
How many Schools did you apply to?
amanda_rensch replied to Verlona's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I am on the opposite end of the spectrum, I applied to 16 schools. I wanted to have lots of choices, but now I feel I have too many. If I were to do it all again, I'd definitely cut the number down to maybe about 9-11.- 39 replies

I have applied to 16 schools, heard back from 10 so far. Accepted at 8, waitlisted at 1, and rejected at 1 as well! Still waiting on some of my big ones, so I'm still very on edge. Good luck to everyone! I love hearing when y'all get into your top schools. -

Waiting to hear back from them as well. I've seen that 3 people have either already gotten in or got waitlisted, so I'm not too sure how they are doing it. I also don't know when their spring break is. I looked back at last year's applications and it looks like people got accepted within the first week of March
