  1. Fellowships are highly prestigious financial support packages that typically include a stipend, tuition remission, and a subsidy for medical insurance. They derive from University or outside awards. Unlike assistantships, they do not have a required instruction or research responsibilities. Recipients must be enrolled in degree programs and be registered full time.
  2. Try these free sources of information about scholarships: the financial aid office at a college or career school. a high school or TRIO counselor. the U.S. Department of Labor's FREE scholarship search tool. federal agencies. your state grant agency. your library's reference section.
  3. Here are some ideas to get you started on the road to academic success. Scholarships and bursaries. ... Career loans from banks and other sources. ... Funding a course with your savings. ... Minimise your debts by taking paid work. ... University scholarships for international and US students. ... Fulbright Scholarships for all students.
  4. $57,500 for undergraduates—No more than $23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans. $138,500 for graduate or professional students—No more than $65,500 of this amount may be in subsidized loans. The graduate aggregate limit includes all federal loans received for undergraduate study.
  5. The three main sources of income are: (i) teaching, research and residential; (ii) donations and legacies (towards both annual expenditure and endowment); and (iii) investment income, as illustrated in the chart below.
  6. According to Erwin, FDAP income includes “US-source dividends, certain interest, passive rents and royalties, non-qualified scholarships, compensation for services and other “fixed or determinable, annual or periodical income”. The flat rate on this is 30 percent on gross income.
  7. The Mitacs Globalink Research Award provides $6,000 for senior undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows in Canada to conduct 12–24-week research projects at universities overseas. The program supports travel and research from Canada to universities in the following countries and regions: Brazil.
  8. Unfortunately, the reality is that many students who more than meet all of the requirements for a full scholarship will not get it. In fact, only 0.1% of students get a full-ride per year.
  9. The challengers in the case are four U.S.-based NGOs that work to fight HIV/AIDS in more than 120 countries through global networks of entities that share their names and missions. When the government continued to apply the funding condition to the NGOs’ foreign affiliates after the Supreme Court’s 2013 decision, the NGOs returned to federal court. A federal district judge in New York ruled that the application of the funding condition to the foreign affiliates violates the First Amendment rights of the U.S.-based NGOs, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit upheld that ruling. The federal government asked the Supreme Court to weigh in, which the justices agreed to do last year.
  10. Typical approaches include methods like: Getting to know students and their home culture, language, values, and environment. Integrating students' ways of knowing and communicating with STEM content. Highlighting individuals from students' racial or ethnic groups as high achievers in STEM areas.
  11. But perhaps there is still more that could be done to ensure that this most intense and crucial of academic relationships doesn’t end up on the rocks. In that spirit, two academics with strong views on the matter – one from science and one from the humanities – set out how they think the supervisory task should best be approached. Their guidance may not amount to a stake through the heart of the PhD horror franchise: as B-movie history amply demonstrates, good advice is not always heeded. But the exposure of the problems to further sunlight may at least slow the drip-drip of blood on to the doctoral carpet.
  12. If you have a 3.6 and above, your chances of getting into at least one program is fairly good, especially if you apply to many programs. If your GPA is lower, under 3.4, you better have remarkable experience that makes you a more compelling applicant than others with stronger academic backgrounds.
  13. “The grades you earn in your post-bac program will impact your overall GPA,” the post said. “Since you will be taking premed classes, your GPA here will largely make up your BCPM (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math grades, used as a separate metric to assess medical school candidates).”
  14. I would rethink your career path in Academia. It is the norm today for university instructors to be paid by class with a limit of 4 per year--watch YouTube professors in poverty. Pulling in $12,000 a year with no benefits is even optimistic. $16,000 if you can work on multiple campuses. Some universities are going to non paid faculty. People will do it just for the hope of one day being paid faculty. Please, please do not be like me and so many others. All the work, all the money...Its hard to accept that I foolishly fell into the adjunct trap.I'm trying my best to get a receptionist job.
  15. Before beginning the PhD, students must complete either coursework in the department’s MA program or the equivalent coursework within another accredited university’s MA or MFA program. Students may transfer up to 30 credits from MA/MFA level work, pending departmental review. The following is the approved normal course of study for students pursuing the PhD in Theatre and Performance. In all cases, a student's particular program should be determined in consultation with his/her academic advisor. Students may also take cognate courses outside the Department of Theatre and Dance to augment their areas of interest. These must be planned in advance with the advisor.
