I really, really hope your comment reaches the people who need to see it most. Thank you for so eloquently wording this. Have things only recently gotten this bad, or have they always been this way? Is there anything we could possibly do to address it as a concerned group (e.g. open letter)?

Absolutely all of this. I shouldn't have to spend every year feeling like I'm just gambling that my hopes and efforts will come to fruition.
Nevertheless, the reality is that in order to see the difference that we want, there need to be more programs for us to go to. Supply to meet demand. Unfortunately, money doesn't actually grow on trees, which is what a bunch of the root issue boils down to. You need funding to start and sufficiently run a good program, not just more degree mills. I would be very interested to see any preliminary calculations on what what funds would be necessary to normalize everyone (decently qualified) getting in at one, absolutely two cycles max.

BTW TC Columbia Counseling PhD called me and let me know that all interviews have been extended and no more interviews will be send out. Honestly not too crazy sad about it as I was fully expecting this but still a bummer. Also don’t appreciate that they were one of the only schools that didn’t waive the GRE.. oh well.

Right? I thought I was the only one who thought that (I received this email as well). This is my first time going through the process and as I see people on their second, third, and fourth tries become more discouraged I can't help but feel saddened and slightly angry. This entire process needs to be completely scrapped and reevaluated. People with years and years of experience are rejected because there are only 3-10 spots per school? We can either be in $200k+ debt for the rest of our lives or apply once every year until hopefully we get a shot?
The world needs more psychologists, and everyone here has the knowledge, passion, and drive to be one. This process effectively discourages applicants from diverse backgrounds, promotes hyper-competitiveness, and drives away perfectly qualified (and over-qualified) candidates. I hope someone who has any influence has been watching these forums this cycle. I'm out of things to say, and these programs are out of excuses.

I also applied to CH. I haven't heard but I spoke to someone over DM who did get an interview with her last week  As for NYU I am close with someone in admissions (high up) and they are still reviewing.

Anyone know when we might be hearing from certain NYC/NJ schools. Specifically Rutgers (someone already answered this so ignore), Pace, Yeshiva and Fordham (Counseling PhD for Fordham as I think clinical has gone out I think?). Losing my sanity one day at a time ?

I’ve went ahead and email three program coordinators, none of whom gave me a a negative response.
I’ve also directly emailed PIs in past cycles  and never received any rude response. In fact, all of them were quite kind(even gentle) in their response.
I think to some extend they understand the crippling anxiety application season can create...
