It's so crazy...my house is fine but one of my friends in Austin is on day 3 with our power, has only trail mix left to eat, and was taking short intervals of sitting in her car for heat/power to charge her phone. A church close to her opened up it's rec center and she's able to sit inside there now, but it's not very covid safe...sacrificing social distancing for heat.
My god that sounds awful... glad to hear your house is okay and wishing all the best for your friend

Thanks whoever mentioned the severe weather in Texas on the results page, did not realise that was happening. Hope any of y'all affected by it are keeping safe and well.

I'm not sure if you're already aware of this info, but take a look at the English department's calendar. I think your estimate is spot on: https://english.rutgers.edu/news-events/events-98/range.listevents/-.html
Did not know about that- thanks!! At least that's one we know when to expect!

I interviewed last Monday with UT Rhetoric, and they said they were hopeful decisions would be released this week-- not sure if this will also be true with UT English, but hopefully they're not too far behind!
Thanks for the update!

Looks like we're in for another rough week. Wishing all the best for y'all, and many congrats to the amazing acceptances I've been seeing!

Any predictions for which colleges might come out this week? I'm hoping Rochester and Emory...
From my list, I think Michigan will likely come out this week, and UT Austin should be coming out soon but they're already way later than previous years, so who knows. As for the maybe-this-weeks I've got UVA, it's possible Princeton will start releasing acceptances toward the end of this week, and Rutgers *might* start releasing acceptances this weekend (if not, I'm assuming next weekend, since they seem to mostly release on weekends). Irvine might release their rejections soon- I'm taking it as an implied rejection, since they seem to have released their acceptances.

Where did you see that Stanford only took 2?!
22 minutes ago, 1 Pint of Ricotta said:Someone posted on the results page that one of their acceptance emails for stanford said there were 9 accepted this year. So I don't think the stat mentioned by the other poster is reliable info.
I believe the 2 figure was for comp lit, not English, hence the confusion.
You can see on the results page for comp lit that someone was apparently told this by their POI who they contacted.

I got into my first MA program!!! I know most of y'all are PhD applicants, but this is so huge for me!! I got offered a teaching assistantship for two years!!!! This means I can move out of my parents house in August!!!!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS ! that's amazing!!

gradcafe, the only fun stay-at-home date I'll be having involves me pounding the refresh button on my gmail account

the waiting is just so! damn! excruciating! at this point. Anyone else kind of losing their general concentration? I feel like I'm usually pretty good at avoiding procrastination but it feels 10x more difficult to work at the moment. I have a backup plan, I know my chances are slim as heck and I'm not even really scared of what will happen if I don't get in anywhere, but the overwhelming uncertainty is getting to me big time.

Movement for UMich English has got me antsy enough to forget about the (totally expected) Cornell rejection... Wondering if the posted rejection was actually for English and Education, since results for that usually tend to come out earlier, and nobody else from the general programme seems to have heard anything? Either way, hoping we hear back soon... best of luck everyone, happy to see some of y'all getting very well-deserved acceptances!!

In at Davis!!! My first English acceptance of this cycle. Really exciting and particularly validating since I was rejected from their program in my last app cycle. I'm so happy! Funding details to come, but it feels amazing to have multiple good offers on the table.
This just made my day-- have been rooting for you!!
Many congratulations!!

Thank you! Excited but nervous. ? It's possible this is just for the rhetoric department (I applied with an interest primarily in legal rhetoric).
Interesting area... best of luck with the interview!

Did anyone else just get an... interview request from UT Austin? I had no idea they'd ever done this. Excited, though-- guess it can't be a bad sign?
nope, but huge congratulations !!!

I don't advocate alcoholism by any means but it's been G&Ts for me this season (actually, the whole pandemic) and the occasional attempts at exercise. It's hard to stay optimistic with news of increased applications and smaller cohort sizes but there's hardly any choice, is there, haha. Chin up. We're in this together. ?
And kudos to all who have acceptances so far! What an achievement to be chosen in such a competitive cycle!
Ooo I haven't had a G&T in a while, will be stealing that idea...
Massive congratulations to those who have been accepted, although it can be disappointing to see acceptances on the board it always makes me happy to know that someone out there has had a well-deserved win !!
Also good luck to all of us in purgatory/with rejections, keep hanging in there (barely)!

I have so many "projected" acceptance dates due today, but so far all of them have been wrong... Arghghhg
My genius strategy:
Sets projected decision dates so I don’t worry until then -->
Worry anyways -->Worry even more when the projected dates pass and I haven’t heard anything -

Literally could not sleep last night because I kept hearing the song "Jolene" except instead of Jolene, it was "Cornell" over and over again. We're in for quite a week I think! Congrats to those accepted!!
This is hilarious- I wish my voice of dread was that entertaining!

UCI english/comp lit/both?
English. Again, I'm pretty unsure tho

I think we have to take into account the fact that this cycle is poised to be exceptional in more ways than one: talk about cohort size, funding, delays...
My guess is it does not conduct an interview for every admit, like many other schools and programs.
Then again, I've heard otherwise on previous threads, and it seems all who've participated in grad cafe forums and are now attending UCI were interviewed. I'm not totally sure what the answer is, but if anyone knows for sure do let us know!

I am weirdly nervous about them. I think it's a pretty good fit for me, but it's also the least desirable city for me and my partner to move to on my list... but they have SUCH an excellent placement rate for their Rhet/Comp folks (like they placed 5/6 in professor positions last year, only one was an adjunct as far as I can tell)... but I also have convinced myself there's no way I'm going to get in... lol. I've reached a position similar to OSU I think where I just want to know either way. I won't be heartbroken if I don't get in, and I'll be excited if I do... but I just want to know.
Literally same. They're probably the best fit for me, and I can't help thinking how much I'd love it there, but I've made myself think I definitely won't get in (which is always more likely with grad admissions, but still), which means I definitely won't get in anywhere that's a worse fit... I just want to know dammit!?

I am not. But I didn’t think UTA results were out....
Oops, no they're not, but they should be out any time now (likely this week from past trends). Sorry to cause any unnecessary alarm!

Yikes that's rough, really sorry about this. I think it might not entirely have been formatting from the way this was worded (see bold). Also, may I ask what kind of file conversion you did? (since I'm pretty sure I uploaded my statements straight from word rather than converting to pdf :s)
