There are lots of grants and tuition remission programs for higher ed. students. In my case, my tuition at Drexel is covered and I only have to pay the tax on it. If you can acquire a job at a community college or university, you might be able to receive some type of remission benefit. -
My program is in a hybrid format (mostly online with executive weekends once a month). Where are you located and why are you looking for an online program?

Hopefully nada. I work for a private university and am earning my MS through a tuition remission program. In today's job market, I probably wouldn't have opted for grad school if tuition remission were not an option. However, my husband has about $30K in undergraduate loan debt, so I'll be assisting in paying that off.

The program I'm starting this fall (MS in Higher Ed) has an optional student affairs emphasis and is available in both Philadelphia and Sacramento, I believe.

Hello all! I recently got a job at a university that offers tuition remission for graduate school, so I'm throwing together a VERY last minute application for a MS in Higher Education program. The application technically calls for a simple essay, but I wanted to write a strong statement of purpose, despite only having worked/studied in this field for a grand total of two weeks. I need to submit my application on Monday, so I'm on a bit of a time crunch and reworking the entire statement is not an option in my case. Might anybody be willing to look my draft over and point out any glaring errors?

Hello Elsie! I just started a new job with Drexel (Sacramento Campus), so I've been immersing myself in all the program information. From what I understand, library science programs can be a little hard to come by today, and registration for in-person programs have been slipping due to the economy. The ischool programs are designed for professionals who want to earn a graduate degree. I have a few professor contacts if you would like me so send their information your way. However, I get the sense you're looking for input from current students. I believe there are a few on my campus, so please let me know if you'd like me to track a few of them down. I did find this little tidbit of information... "This online library science degree program was "America's Best Graduate Schools 2007," U.S.News & World Report, and has ranked the Drexel University College of Information Science and Technology's Master's in Library and Information Science 11th in the nation overall, while its specialties in Information Systems and Digital Librarianship came in at numbers 5 and 6, respectively."

His program starts on September 16th and UC Davis is on the quarter system. We'd expected the checks to be distributed monthly or biweekly, but we were surprised to learn that they will be going out in two lump sums of $13,000.

At the suggestion of the graduate school, my husband and I moved to our new location early. They suggested no later than August 1st, but we settled in the second week of July He'd been casually told that the first stipend checks are distributed in August or September. To our surprise, he received a letter yesterday notifying the students in the program that they should expect their first check on November 1st. In the same email, it is reiterated that students should move to town no later than August 1st in order to ensure housing. Is this out of the ordinary? We'd put enough aside (about $5000) to last us through September, but I'm concerned that I won't find a job as quickly as I'd hoped and that we'll be in hot water come October. I would appreciate any insight anyone might have.

Dendro, try using the Davis Wiki as a resource. My husband and I made the rounds at the pet friendly apartments and our top choices were Davis Townhouse Apartments, Cranbrook Apartments, and Sycamore Lane Garden Apartments. My husband and I grew up in the Bay Area and made frequent trips to Davis in high school. Let me know if we can answer any questions about the surrounding cities. The traffic on 80 has really become out of control in the past decade or so.

Hi Dendro! My husband and I are moving out to Davis next week. We have two cats, and I found that it was pretty tough finding pet-friendly housing in the area. Have you found an apartment yet?
