  1. I think you'll have to try really hard to get your resume to say that you are over weight.. .. LOL All the best!! This waiting period is such a b***h..
  2. I think the closest I came to a disaster was when my advisor went on a week long trip the week that my first application was due. Luckily, he was very very considerate to fill out the recommendation letter while he was on his trip. I will always be grateful for that.. The other thing that happened was due to the DHL people. My packets to UC-Santa Cruz were sent to Pittsburgh and this was on the deadline. Gave me a sleepless night but it ended out OK in the end..
  3. The only interview I had was a skype interview a month back. I could help out maybe if you have any queries. There is also a lot of generic advice that you can find on gradcafe / the Internet.
  4. Isn't Berkeley v/s Stanford a major rivalry?? And weren't the Berkeley dadlines ages ago?? (Or maybe this was only in my field) I think mailing the Grad Admin rightaway to get it corrected would be a good idea, especially if the deadline was just a few days away and the reviews haven't begun yet..
  5. I know that the results survey is extremely 'under-populated' for earth sciences, but you could try the two colleges you mentioned in there.. You never know.. Also, the college websites might have some info in the Prospective Students section (WashU and Gatech are a couple that have such info). I don't know of any other sources where you can get average GPAs and GRE scores (Keep in mind that decisions are not made just based on these numbers).
  6. I guess its because it's the waiting time for most of us and the anxiousness drives us toward GradCafe.. I for one, would like to see the "alcohol consumed" trend among students that have applied to grad school.. LOL..
  7. Hang in there mate.. The waiting period is extensively difficult.. Hopefully we'll come out unscathed.. And you do have peer reviewed publications, which are valued a lot.. We have 3 universities in common.. San Diego, I'm guessing the results should be out soon.. Yale should've let you know by now I think, their recruitment weekend is this coming one and they usually have phone/skype interviews for international students..I read online that interviews will definitely be conducted for all graduate students shortlisted for admission at Yale.. And Santa Cruz, no clue at all.. I think there's someone else here who's applied (and got admitted) to Rhode Island, so you can maybe check with them.. And I just saw a post on the results survey that said something about Colorado School of Mines..You could check on that as well..
  8. This cannot be a bad thing at all..right?? Congratulations!!!
  9. Count me in.. I haven't heard anything and it'll soon be 2 months since I submitted my first app.. I don't know how much longer I can take of this.. Everyday without an email or a phone call just crushes me more and more.. I just want an email..please o please..
  10. I check the results survey atleast twice an hour, almost during every hour of the 16 hours I'm up.. I'm always at my computer, so I just can't help it.. Gradcafe itself is almost continuously open in the browser..And the University application sites are checked thrice everyday, including on weekends.. I think I've become more obsessive because of Gradcafe and from today, I'm going to go sit in a place where I don't have internet access..
  11. Have you made sure that they have received all your documents? If other people have been getting results from the same program in the same school, then I think you should call or email the Grad Office.
  12. Surely, you must be kidding if you expect an answer for that one..
  13. Okies..so create a weighted probability distribution by assigning weights to each of your applications and then evaluating joint probabilities.. Whatever, I just want to feel better and hope that I have the slightest chance of getting into grad school and the fact that there are so so many possibilities and only 1 (or 2) are bad (even though it might be highly probable) gives me hope, even though its only fools hope..
  14. 20+ !!! Thats a large large number.. How did you even get people to write your reco letters..Atleast 60 of them.. But what you said about international applicants is scaring me now..
  15. I agree.. I think there is a reason that most people on such forums don't use their real names.. It's easy to say the "wrong" things on a faceless forum such as this one and nobody would want it to be traced back to them.. If I were you, I would make sure I edit that thing out, just to be on the safer side.. And regarding your original post, I can understand what you must be going through..Don't delay it any further, talk to someone higher up if needed..
  16. I am supposed to be working on my Master's thesis. I haven't written a single line of code or done any analysis in 2 weeks.. My advisor is going to chop me into a million pieces and feed me to the dogs if I don't get any work done.. But I cant get any work done because I'm always thinking of the gazillion reasons why I haven't heard from anyone as yet..
  17. You are welcome.. I think about sending out emails every morning, when I see that I've heard anything from anyone.. But I've somehow managed to hold off.. Don't know how much longer though..
  18. I think it would be too early right now to check whether they would have openings 18 months down the line.. I think you should wait till the September-October time frame of 2012 to email the professors checking for openings and vacancies.. But if you feel like your research interests are fairly fixed, you could do your ground work right now and read the professors' prior research work. This would really help you when you send out your e-mail and could sound really knowledgeable in the field.
  19. A similar query : In short, if you do NEED to call anyone, call the Department Admin or the Graduate Office.
  20. I had one phone call (informal) and one skype interview.. Make sure you look around on the Internet for a lot of generic advice (I'm sure you've already done that ).. Other than that, be confident and try to focus on the interview as much as possible. The call getting disconnected is a distraction, but if it happens theres nothing you can do, other than just call back. Dont get distracted by that through out your interview. I would imagine that stuttering a bit now and then is fine too, I guess they would expect you to be a tad bit nervous (Am I just consoling myself by thinking that? ). If you are going to take the interview from the car or elsewhere, do a trial run with a friend before hand. Also, I guess it goes without saying, make sure there won't be disturbances or any interference. Loud people walking by or noisy vehicles are really irritating on the phone. All the best!!!
  21. You're so lucky!!! I thought I was doing a good thing by finishing all my classes last semester.. Now, I'm in front of my comp all the time.. I think I should go find a cave..
  22. Not biomedical related, not a woman.. .. Looking up on this, will update this thread after gathering some more info..Might be useful for someone else in the future..
  23. For some reason, I hate the ads for the barely known universities which promise so many things!!! Those universities almost look fake..
  24. Brilliant!!! Is there a Shit Graduate School Applicants say video?? If not, I could make one and that would end up being my accomplishment of the year in case I don't get in anywhere..
  25. Wow!!! This is scary!!! And suddenly I have another reason to worry myself crazy.. I know for sure that I didn't copy anything off anywhere, but a false positive is still a 1 in some number scenario (I don't want to be that 1 in some number.)
