  1. Mrod... I really think CSULB basis their decision on experience. I spoke with an Admissions Director that attended CSULB, and she stated that if your experience is not where they need it to be, you will not be accepted... However, if I were you, I would not base my acceptance on anyone elses stats. Universities do not want cookie cutter applicants in their programs. Yes, they set standards; however, I really think we (applicants) will not know WTH they use to make their final decisions. Be encouraged. Side note: I applied to CSUDH last year, and was rejected - hurt me to my core. Well, I reapplied this year, changed some things, and received my thick packet in the mail confirming my acceptance. Stay encouraged, things will work out for you! Also, CSULB is not the only great MSW program in SoCal. (wink wink)
  2. Eileen... Seems like we are the only ones attending CSUDH. You were completely rejected by CSULB? I truly believe experience is a decision factor for them. Good thing we received our acceptance to CSUDH with a more desirable concentration for us.
  3. They had a diversity fair late last year. One of the individuals on the admissions committee was in my breakout group. I asked him if they used a ranking vs rolling admissions system and he said yes. I have spoken to people that are current MSW students that had horrible GRE's and average GPA's. The main focus is your statement. The individual that sits on the admissions board echoed the same sentiment. If your statement is strong then you will be fine! Best to you and thank you for the congratulations, I am beyond excited.
  4. CSULB - I applied early November, and received my status (pending) end of November early December. UCLA - At their information they stated that acceptance letters may be sent out in April/May... Entrance is based pretty much on a ranking system. I applied and got accepted into CSUDH's program as well. I am super excited because they have the Community Mental Health component. I did not apply to UCLA because of that $%#@ traffic!
  5. meat sauce
  6. Mercedes, the Admin for the department said pendin status would not be available until June/July. Future MSW, like you I waiting until the last day and was denied entrance. This year I turned in my app two weeks after the app acceptance period began. During the informational, we were encouraged to get our apps in early.
  7. I received acceptance from CSUDH in early December and was placed in pending status at CSULB the week of Thanksgiving. Best to you!
  8. I spoke to someone at CSULB regarding pending status. What she said was... Pending status is NOT the same as being wait listed. Basically they do some kind of average via gpa, application score, and other variables. Once they come up with the number, they calculate eveyone's average. If you fall within or above that average number you will receive an email (mass email). Once you receive the email, it becomes first come first serve. All of this is based on if they have space available in June/July. I hope what I am saying makes sense.
  9. You're welcome! Best of "luck" to you!
  10. CSULB for sure has rolling admissions. Turn them in as quickly as you can! I have already received my application status from both schools that I applied too, and I turned my apps in late October early November.
  11. No, it doesn't. You only submit to your department.
  12. Some of the schools have FB pages. You should log on and post your questions on their page. People will give you feedback.
  13. I went to UCLA's MSW informational, and they seemed not as interested in research or experience. They are looking for a well rounded student that understands social work and what a social worker does. My suggestion to you is to attend informationals..... Hose will assist you when completing your application.
  14. CSUDH... the old saying says - one bird in the hand is better than two in a bushel. I prefer DH because they offer the community mental health component. LB only has CYA and gerontology... I am interested in neither.
  15. Where are you applying too? Different programs have different prerequisites.
  16. Yes, accepted @ CSUDH and pending status at CSULB. I received my letter from LB right after Thanksgiving. Dominguez sent me my acceptance on 12/14.
  17. Thank you!
  18. Did the application include question for you to address? All of my apps had questions.
  19. Thank you, i am super stoked. Yes, I turned my app in the last week of October. Last year I turned it in on the very last day and was denied entrance. So this year I said I would do things differently!
  20. Got my acceptance from CSUDH - 2 year program.. YAAAY!
  21. This is why attending informational sessions are so important! The admissions professionals share more info... Info that is not available on the site. I honestly believe they hold the information for the informationals.
  22. Why not call the schools and ask them for a soft-copy of their presentations during the informational. Maybe they will have some compassion if you inform them that you will not return to SoCal prior to end of the application process. I hope this helps...
  23. You should take some time out and attend an informational. They were very helpful to me and gave me the necessary information. One thing that they look forward to most is the personal statement... I know for a fact! They want to see if you have graduate-level writing skills... Personally, I find that ignorant, but nonetheless, that's what they are looking for.
  24. I too turned in my CSUDH and CSULB apps in last week because of turning my apps in at the last minute. I am having a hard time completing my personal statement for CSULA - I feel they are asking too many questions and they are redundant. Anywho... Hopefully we will hear something soon. My first choice is CSULB, CSUDH, UCLA, CSUF, and CSULA... Have a good one!
  25. I turned my apps in for both CSULB and CSUDH's MSW programs this week. When I turned my apps in, both schools stated that their census was low and I should hear something before the end of the year. I hope you all are finishing your apps and getting them in! I will complete and turn in my apps for CSULA, CSUF, and UCLA this week. I do not want the rejection I felt last year due to last minute app completion. Best to you all! MSW Bound
