  1. I can't be allowed to express my opinions on the fly. I had drinks with one of my professors at University of London. The conversation started academic and then spiraled out of control into me telling her about how I hate having sex with my boyfriend because he always eats Indian food and smells like, QUOTE, "a rotten samosa." This is what would happen in my interview as well.
  2. Me: Should I eat a whole sheet cake? Magic 8-ball: "Absolutely!" Suspicious.
  3. All of the tech stuff has been the most confusing part of this process for me. When I had to create my student account with OSU to check my application status, I was like, "what is this button, and this, BEEP BOP BOOOP I am using technology."
  4. I'd like to get my rejection on paper instead of being laughed off the campus.
  5. I REALLY, REALLY hope I don't have to interview with anyone. I will ruin everything.
  6. My habit is excellence. ;[
  7. I have a new reason for Duke being my top choice: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Lemur_Center
  8. It's easy to get sucked into a spiral of doubt, anxiety, and regret after finishing your applications. Let's do a self-esteem exercise and say what we did right. Maybe you had an awesome conversation with a POI before submitting your apps, or graduated with a 4.0 and honors, or got an awesome GRE score. Tell Grad Cafe why you are an awesome candidate in the 2012 application pool. Anyone who is negative will be flogged.
  9. Probably sounds bad, but I have issues with people that are obsessed with being too correct. Some things just sound bad, even if they are right. For the most part, I like 90% of written communication to be light and informal. I hate when people say things like "IT IS I!" Sure, it's correct, but you sound like a wizard.
  10. Oh, don't even get me started on my works cited. My paper referenced a lot of commercials and youtube videos in addition to all of the sources I used, so I ended up with like 20+ sources. Now, when I reflect on it, I absolutely should have used the Chicago style, but instead I used MLA and have 2 pages of sources. So dumb and obvious, but it didn't seem like a problem then. Annoying.
  11. OSU was $40 AND the offered a fee waiver. It blew my mind.
  12. I'm not having trouble with the waiting. I can't help reflecting on everything I did (which includes a typing error on my CV/Resume that went out to most of my schools) and then wanting to die.
  13. SUCH a nice school, though, and a fun area/campus. Even if it is a rough neighborhood.
  14. UChicago? I was going to apply, had my app mostly done, my references submitted, etc., etc. I ended up backing out at the last minute because I didn't want to pay the fee and have heard all the jokes, "thank you for your donation to the University of Chicago."
  15. Duke. I applied to only the schools I'd want to go to and would provide full funding, though, so I will be happy if I get accepted anywhere.
  16. This is making me freak out now, too, because all of my LOR writers said they submitted to Brown, but I never did get a confirmation email from Brown. Did other people get confirmation emails say their professors submitted?
  17. I didn't apply, but my friend goes to Northwestern now and she seems to really enjoy it.
  18. I feel bad because I submitted it earlier than I had to and I know when I look at it tomorrow I will find 10000000 things in my WS and SOP I will wish I had changed.
  19. If only we had applied to grad school 10 years ago when even the most elite programs took 10+ students into a cohort each year.
  20. Yes, I loved it. It's a very good distraction from the miserable process of preparing applications. I was really surprised by how true to the original Muppets Show it was. Also, Fox News wrote up an article about how it was communist propaganda.
  21. Yes, I sent everything through priority mail a few days ago. Don't freak out! You have plenty of time if you send it today.
  22. I have ALL of my applications complete and uploaded now, but I have to wait for my paychecks to roll in so I can pay the fees. SO ANNOYING.
  23. A 10%+ increase on the verbal is great.
