Where my Duke applicants at?!
perrykm2 replied to cquin's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Does anyone know how crucial it is to go to the interview weekend at Duke? -
Acceptance with External MA

Sorry, I call Penn State "Penn" and University of Penn "UPenn," so I meant Penn State, yes. -
SUNY Buffalo Comparative Literature
perrykm2 replied to aliko54's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Hey there. Congratulations! Buffalo isn't an expensive city. There are student apartments around/near SUNY Buffalo that are pretty cheap/convenient, especially if you're splitting rent/utilities with roommates. If you're pretty conservative with your spending, that should be fine. -
Acceptance with External MA
perrykm2 replied to Timshel's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I'm sure this varies school to school, and has a lot to do with how willing the dept is to accept transfer credits. The only school that I looked at that explicitly said they prefered students without an external MA was Penn. Interestingly, they only want incoming students to apply to the MA, so who is applying to their PhD program? Additionally, they encourage students who did an undergrad and masters at Penn to go to another university for their PhD, but an external student with the same degrees wouldn't be wanted? I don't know; someone is smoking crack over there. -

Worth updating my application?

I think you should as well. My friend sent in updated GRE scores as an addendum, even though she's completed all her apps. It couldn't hurt? -

ONE MORE POST. My boyfriend is trying to keep me off of Grad Cafe. He says if I don't stop obsessively checking it, he is going to block it and reroute the site to porn. -

New season of Skins comes out on the 23 of this month, Timshel! Have you ever watched Misfits? If you haven't, you have to. It's on E4 like Skins, and it is pretty similar in tone and humor but it is science fictiony. -
That sounds positive.

You've got a Boggart and it's taking the form of a terrifying Ivy League school. -

I'm surprised how few people I've seen applying to UPenn, especially since they have such generous funding. -
Don't stress out over GRE. You'd be wasting your time/energy.

Concerning NRC rankings
perrykm2 replied to JeremiahParadise's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I think the student ranking would be most important because nothing matters if you can't 1. fund the program or 2. graduate from it. -
According to that conversion graph, my quantitative score would have been slightly higher than my verbal.

Interviews....

I'm sure this is right. I've had a lot of friends interviewed over the phone and Skype for grad programs. Most of them were applying to psych and science programs, though.
