go for it!it wont hurt! I asked for money from UPenn and they then offered 13.5k for the first year. (not a penny at first)..I dont think if u ask for more and they r not happy then they'll take back the scholarship giving to u. Haha..

hey!just because i dont get any $$, it doesnt mean that u will not. Many schools dont provide money for internationals. You are definitely in a different situation. dont lose hope! roxy, did the email specifically notice u that u didnt get accepted by the SP? I applied the global one, too. The coodinator said they didnt encourage internatinals to apply as studying in the us is global social work itself. I will be surprised if I didnt recieve a rejection letter for the first round..

yep,I can't count on that.. special programs are highly competitive ~ But I'll wait till April 15,(the deadline of UPenn). If michigan doesn't offer any $$ till then, I might take WUSTL or UPenn instead =( anyway, wish you get lots of $$$.haha

email,a Chinese student received the same decision like me.. it seems that michigan doesn't provide much aid for internationals. ( and maybe that's why it doesn't have many internationals in its program) you will receive a different one I believe~ Good luck!!

Hi there. I am applying to Chicago's AM program. I just submitted and got all the recommendations etc. (I wish I am not too late...) I took a GRE test and self-reported it. The application checklist shows that it is awaiting.. Does anyone know that would my application be viewed as completed? Or should I ask ETS to send the score to the school so my application can be viewed...? Thanks very much!

congratulations!!! it take guts to apply to only one program!! Happy for u!!

I can not take it any more.. I just called the office. The coordinator said the initial financial aid (merit-based scholarship for me, don't know loans etc.) would come out in a week or two weeks(after the acceptance, before the decisions of special programs). He didn't know when the decisions of special programs would be rendered out.

Rescinding a Decision to Enroll (cross-posted)
XXXXXXphd2021 replied to roxyshoe's topic in Social Workers Forum
There is something called "“Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees, and Assistants". If you regret, you should inform the university and get its permission I guess. In most situations they will let you go to another university. However, they do have the right to ask the other university to reject you.(But I don't think it will go that far.) I know someone who accepted the scholarships of Upenn and in April turned to UMich for a better offer. Nothing bad happened.- 4 replies

Yes. If michigan doesn't offer any sources of financial aid, I can't go. (Unfortunately I heard that they didn't offer much, if any, for internationals ) I would send an e-mail to ask about the financial aid. Waiting is killing me. Good luck !!

roxyshoe, that's so nice of you! If I finally decide to go to U of Michigan, I will definitely turn to you =) Yesterday I asked a student of UMich MSW, she was accepted by the community special program. She mentioned that she didn't know she was accepted by the special program until April she checked the Wolverine Access. Once you got the admission, you would still need to wait and wait to see the final result about the special program.

thanks! I submitted my WUSTL app around 12/5 I guess~ there are many students "under review"...so don't worry!
-
WUSTL just rendered out a lot of admissions...and rejections..got accepted =)
-
I guess you can call them to check. I feel that they don't have many staffs working in the office, so maybe the invitation of interview just couldn't come out in time. Don't worry. Good luck

Same here...I just discover that I really like its program. I'm worried that there won't be any sources of direct grant available when I finish the application, so personally I might give up trying. (I have to wait for another four weeks for the English test score to arrive. So I can only complete the application in late Feb. ) However, for you, the program has a high acceptance rate. (According to some websites, it's over 60%) So I think getting accepted may not be a big problem. I don't know how it works for the financial aid. More advices may be needed. And yes, it will only cost you less than $100 to apply. Won't hurt anyway. Hey, just finish the application ASAP, rather than wondering about it!! Good luck!

I submitted my application on December 5, got an email asking me to schedule an interview on December 8. The interview was on December 14. Then the final decision came on Janurary 4. (They took off from Dec. 22 to Jan.3 for the holiday). Normally it takes one week to get a interview, one week for you to prepare for it and another two weeks to wait for the final decision. That's for the Chinese students as far as I know.

Hi everyone, I come from China and I guess sometimes international students may have the priority. My stats: GPA - 85/100, guess around 3.45 Major - Psychology (graduate this year) Test - GRE V570(80%) Q780(88%) AW 3.5(2.6%) TOEFL 105 Intership: 1 month @ education co. 4 months @ domestic violence prevention center 4 months @ employee care center 3 years office coordinator and class counselor Volunteer: 2 months @ rural area, lived with a "left-behind" child(whose parents worked far away from home) for two weeks 6 months @ nursing home Research : Only one related to social work, about domistic violence victims. Others are related to psychology, on time management and positive psychological capital. (But in China the quality of the research is not so good.) Other: exchange student @ Taiwan for 6 months Applied to NYU, Umich, Upenn and WUSTL Get accepted by Upenn. At first they offered nothing, and I emailed to the director and he reviewed my material. He mentioned that they didn't offer me the scholarship because of my writing skills. I guess the statement was not their type. But maybe my email worked and they finally offered me $13500 for the first year. Still waiting for other decisions. My background is not as competitive as yours, but I guess the shchools think that my strenth is my Chinese perspective =]
