Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school

I wish I was entering a field that was so generous w/their emoluments & honorariums -
Don't apologize ... we each have an individualistic take on it ... you can only do what makes you happy ... until it is 15 April 12 or all the schools you applied to say "no", you cannot give up all hope I feel ... I am sorry the process has been negative ... if you do reconsider I feel you will have benefited from the time you have just put in ... keep your head up

"Aren't you getting a little too old to be going back to school?" -
It sucks not knowing then you see other people getting news ... it almost makes you want to scream out loud
-
Man I took a nap this afternoon and I wake up to all this ... congrats to everyone! And to those w/bad news keep your head up ... the race isn't done yet

That is a way to fill the void of the silence

Hang in there guys! Keep your spirits up!

Well see then I don't think anyone can complain if that is the only criteria really

Martin Luther King Jr was born Michael King Jr, but his father, "Daddy" King changed his name from Michael King Sr to Martin Luther King, Sr. (to honor the German Augustinian monk) and his changed his son's name in the process as well.

Come on college students consuming large amounts of alcohol? That isn't a shocker ... what WOULD shock me would be a decrease in consumption

Welcome to the insanity grad cafe seems to brew

As much as the silence may suck, unfortunately the schools are usually taking applications during their Christmas/Winter break, so the AdComms need time and as sucky as it is, I would prefer they take their time to carefully make a decision.
-
Well thanks for the clarification ... I wonder how many other schools use this process? I would think it could potentially create a sense of "well that's not fair" etc
-
I hope I don't offend anyone with this but what is their criteria for "minority"?
-
Lurkers are those who don't post ... I believe? I could be wrong though

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but it sure has helped me ...you will require the following things, another human being, a timer, a bucket, 2 pairs of handcuffs, a chair, a blindfold, and a bathroom. Now go into the bathroom, set the timer for 30 mins, sit in the chair have the human being blind fold you, then handcuff your hands and feet to objects so as to prevent you from moving. Now after this is accomplished make sure they dim the lights and gently turn on a water faucet as to make the water drip into the bucket super slowly. Have them either be super silent or leave the area whilst this goes on for 30 mins. After the time elapses, They will uncuff you and remove the blindfold. I suggest doing this 4-5 times a week if you ever find yourself stressed out about grad school applications. I hope this helps!

That would be the most hilarious thing ever: they earmark you for funding, but pending an acceptance & then you don't get accepted to any of the schools you apply to. I don't mean ha-ha hilarious mind but more so, 'wow that is effed up, guess life hates me' hilarious.

BTW what happens when schools hold pro wkds at the same time? What if you are interested in both programs, can you split time between the two or is that a social faux pas?
-
I really want to see the stats for Jan & Feb now ... judging from the activity I think I saw, the #s will be incredible ... well at least that's what I think will happen

I too had some questions. I was curious as to how someone who didn't have an acceptance to a PhD program could apply to the program. It made 0 sense to me how they could expect you to turn in your application before the PhD application process was over. For example what if I had applied, won and then gotten accepted to a school that gave me full funding for at least my first year? Could I defer the Ford fellowship to another year? I guess I'm too simple to understand these things

I agree about the competence part b/c I am sure we ALL know someone who is dumb as rock who scored well on the test. If Saved By The Bell has taught us anything in life, and I know it has, the Stanberries of this world only care about the 1501 SAT scores and those schools suck, so go to Cal U! -
Thanks the artist formerly known as ADL

Waiting it out 2012... 'I've just submitted my application' thread
oseirus replied to fenderpete's topic in Waiting it Out
No it seems all schools have a set criteria as far when they announce, etc. I know one of my schools required a 01 Dec 11 deadline application and I haven't heard back and another school had a 15 Jan 12 app deadline, which I hear they will be announcing sometime next week. -
I want to know where the reset of the Ivy lurkers are. It seems only the Yale & Princeton folks (and today Brown) are coming out of the woodworks. Hey lurkers, how y'all doing? Did anyone out there apply to Cornell or Columbia or Dartmouth? Thanks PS for Lurkers only or if you haven't stated it somewhere here already
