  1. Despite the fact that it may be true, I'm going along with the unsubstantiated assumption that a majority of the posts are real. Why? Because my sanity is only hanging on by a few threads, and constantly checking the results survey and believing the results is one of them.
  2. AGREED! I thought I was a strange, quirky person before this process. But I am now crazier than Bedlamites!!!!!! Very little distracts me for any length of time from checking email, refreshing the acceptance survey, or checking websites from institutions. This process has proved that I am not sane. Not sane at all.
  3. I sent a writing sample in analyzing a play. I mentioned the play in the title and it wasn't correct. The play's title is "for colored girls" my paper's titled had it as "for color girls." I didn't notice this until after I sent it out to three programs. One program had a deadline that had already passed. I emailed them but my application was considered complete and to resubmit the paper, it wouldn't be complete on time. The other two programs had no problems with me submitting a different version of the paper and replacing it. So, I am still waiting for that rejection. I imagine much laughter after they notice my title gaffe. I can only hope the laughter isn't carried over to the rejection email. Your problem sounds much worse and without great amounts of driving and overnight shipping, I don't see a solution. But I hope hearing this cheers you a bit.
  4. Thanks! When writing it, I was like this really shows them what kind of person I am. But everyone who knows me, knows what a fun and amazing crazy person I am, and I think they may just get "crazy person."
  5. I keep imagining I have the magical power to hack into email and discover if I am already rejected and just don't know it. I haven't imagined what they are saying since I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be that good. It would probably be along the lines of "Not good enough" "Is this a CV?" "Why does her SOP start with her reading Derrida inside a garbage can? Despite it being for a Beckett rehearsal, that's just too strange. She voluntarily spent hours inside of a garbage can."
  6. I didn't apply to Wake Forest or Villanova, but I didn't get asked to visit until I was accepted to a program. I never had any interviews for my MA applications, just acceptance or rejections. You probably aren't the first one to visit, but it's not normal procedure for English from what I've experienced. Hope that helps!
  7. My sister tells me multiple times a day since December to stop obsessively looking at admission results and grade papers or work on paper proposals or read for my classes. You can tell it's working. I need to read words from people who are as crazy as I am. Then rewatch all of the six episodes of BBC's Sherlock while "reading." P.S. I still think Johnny Depp is awesome because I haven't watched anything he's done recently. But I need to rewatch "Dead Man." That is one great movie with Johnny Depp.
  8. I didn't get that email and was accepted with full funding. I wish I had received that email!
  9. Eurosport 2 player had Norwegian ski jumps on most of last night. I wonder what they have tonight. Oh, and there is all that coursework and my three jobs. I hate weekends. Too much time to panic and watch sports all night long.
  10. Agreed. I imbibe massive amounts of Mountain Dew. It's what I live on.
  11. I'm already going on a trip to Europe this summer as a present from parents who are crazy enough to be happy I'm getting a Ph.D. in English Lit. If I get into one of my three top choice schools, I'm going to get a new, nice (expensive) bike.
  12. 1. Just finished cleaning out over 4,000 old email messages and organizing them. 2. Set up a twitter account. 3. Downloaded and organized old photos. 4. Planned parts of my summer European vacation. 5. Started reading gradcafe forums. 6. Occasionally looked at the 100+ pages to read for tonight.
