  1. I agree with some on this post. you DO NOT need to take the GRE again. In our field programs are more concerned with VERBAL than Quantitative scores and your VERBAL is GREAT! Your Quant is not all that bad either. Like others have said, your combined is 316 and most schools want above 300 so your more than fine.
  2. @ LexM24 - I think your grades and experience are a good fit for GVSU! GVSU looks for not only decent grades and GRE but they REALLY want people with experience working with all populations( children and adults). Good Luck!
  3. I think you have some good choices in Grand Valley State And Fort Hays State. I go to Grand Valley currently and I am good friends with Fort Hays State's director of their program. Very nice guy!
  4. I would suggest the Kaplan GRE review book that includes online practice tests. I took the GRE once just like you without any studying because I had to get it done quick and got something like V-147, Q-149. The Kaplan book costs maybe $20 and you will notice the 5 online tests they give you to practice are EXACTLY like the real GRE. The book has a lot of good practice as well. I improved my GRE to V-152, Q-151 which isn't much but just above the 50th percentile which a lot of schools look at. Good Luck!
  5. I would recommend my grad school, Grand Valley State University. The faculty is very supportive and approachable, almost like family!
  6. Hello Macefave, My overall was 2.77. The best thing to do is email the schools you want to apply to and ask them about your GPA being below a 3.0. But take a look at my stats in my "signature" and you can see that you have a better overall GPA than me and I was fortunate enough to ge some wait lists and acceptances. Good luck!
  7. Best advice would be to email those schools you are applying to and see if they recommend you getting a higher AW score. If they are fine with the 3.5 than no need to retake it.
  8. You can choose where to do your CFY and your license and if you move to another state I'm pretty sure you just pay fees to get licensed in that state if already licensed.
  9. I would email any SLP grad program and ask the same question about last 60 units. We can all speculate but the schools you are applying to can tell you the real answer. I would say it is the last 60 units no matter what. They wanna see how well you are doing in classes for the past 2 years. If you did not do too well in the post bacc classes, then discuss this in your statement letter.
  10. One of my professors is one of four people certified to do it! Let me copy and paste her bio from our school website: Dr. Macauley is one of four speech-language pathologists in the US with board certification in hippotherapy (HPOT), using the movement of the horse as a treatment strategy, and is an international leader and speaker in the applications of AAT & HPOT within speech-language pathology. I know she allows us students to observe with her if we'd like and I know a couple in my cohort who have been with her to therapy. The school is Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
  11. I emailed more than 200 schools nation wide to confirm what they had on their websites. I had a list in the past of like 40 schools who looked at last 60 units and I personally cut it down to 15 to actually apply to based on my communications with the school directors, etc.
  12. I am pretty sure it is specifically the last 60 units no matter what the classes are. Whatever shows up on your transcripts as the last 60 total units.
  13. All of the schools I applied to below in my signature look at the last 60 units except CSUN.
  14. The best thing to do is email the schools you are thinking of applying to with the same paragraph you just posted and ask them if people like you are being accepted at their university.
  15. Grand Valley State Code is 0282
  16. Could also look into nuerotherapy trainer. The Drake institute in Northridge, CA is always looking I think. They also have a clinic in Irvine.
  17. Email some programs that you would potentially be applying to after the post bacc program and see what they say with your situation. I am sure if you have relevant experience and do well in the post bacc program you will be fine! My undergrad GPA was 2.0 and then when I went back to school full time a few years later I only had a 3.3 for my SLP courses and still got accepted into a program. Email programs and see!
  18. Some of the rejection letters said to feel free to contact the department if you had questions or wanted to know what you could do better next time.
  19. All of the schools I applied to only look at your last 60 units if that helps!
  20. Congrats Ranjit! Happy for the both of you!
  21. I know a lot of you are looking out west for grad school, but if you want a program that does not look at ONLY your GPA and GRE scores, than I would HIGHLY recommend Grand Valley State University. Besides evaluating applicants on more than just #'s, the program itself is like a family atmosphere. Most of the time when you hear that you think the students are all close, but here, the students AND staff are all close! The staff is friendly and the program focuses more on application than just test scores. The clinical experiences are all out in the community at head start programs, veterans homes, hospitals, rehab centers and Long term care facilities so you are actually at a place of business and not just at a school clinic being watched over by your professors. You actually get out and make connections WHILE doing your clinical hours so that when you graduate you definitely will be able to get a CFY at one of the locations you did your clinical placement at. Oh, and the program is only 15 months! The last 3 months you could take your long term internship anywhere in the U.S. Also you take the PRAXIS exam after a year in the program and get that done with. As far as research, they do not have much going in that regard. The end of the program exam or thesis is not either of those things. It is a graduate portfolio of all of your work you did during the program which you get to keep and use in your job interviews to show all of the competencies you have met to your future employers. Highly recommend GVSU!
  22. I completely agree with rainsonata. I emailed over 200 programs showing them my stats and experience and asked if previous years applicants have gotten in with similar stats and experience. Like rainsonata said, most were straight forward and helpful and some just vague. Be aware of the schools who are not straight forward because those are the schools who probably would just like your app $$.
  23. As DS05 said, universities KNOW that they will get people who will decline after accepting and so all you would need to do is email/call and let them know you will be declining and accepting another offer. The only thing you would lose is a deposit as mentioned if the original school required one.
  24. I don't, just take it for what it's worth.
  25. Well the ones I can remember that for sure seemed like they just wanted my app $$ were West Texas A&M, U of Montana(especially), Western Carolina U, and T&M-Kingsville. Hope that helps!
