  1. CUNY stated that they will give out final answers in April. April. April. April.
  2. I majored in Communications: Journalism and Comparative Literature. UW-Madison offers a PhD minor which is pretty awesome and lets me have a more interdisciplinary approach than any other program. For that I am glad!
  3. I think that's what I'l dp. It's a great offer and a good school. What do you guys think about Madison? I'm still waiting to hear from UMass Amherst and CUNY. I think they're both great schools, but have yet to hear back from them. Still, legally I have a month to decide.
  4. You guys, UW-Madison just awarded me a fellowship. Should I accept or wait around for other schools, just in case?
  5. I really really want to get that fellowship. :'( Alas, Good Luck!
  6. I don't disagree with complaining, but I do feel this person could have just been honest from the beginning and stated his/her complaints without any ultimate motives or extra accounts. I'm sure this is a very welcoming forum. I mean, we could actually try to help.
  7. First of all, what is with this thread? And I'm sure that the picture below explains everyemoryphdstudents reasons for his/her complaints: through an anon forum.
  8. I still can't make any final decisions until funding comes through and I hear back from two other schools. :'( Why is this taking so long?
  9. I would also love to know how they look like inside.
  10. It completely is! Only a few endings or suffixes were lost. It's basically pronounced the same. I seriously encourage anyone who wants to delve into medieval literature to study Icelandic.
  11. There's a Masters Program of Viking and Medieval Norse within the University of Iceland, U of Copenhagen and U of Oslo. I've been taking a workshop on Old Icelandic, which is really amazing because there are plenty of sagas, mythologies and stories conserved in Old Icelandic. We're actually reading a saga on Loki right now. [beyond awesome!] This is way beyond any of my Research interests, but I'm always up for learning new things. I also know pretty basic Portuguese, but that's only because Spanish is my first language.
  12. Has CUNY started giving out rejections?
  13. I'm SO happy for you. My boyfriend didn't get accepted were he wanted. We're just waiting on that one school.
  14. I would have to say that being a minority, Latin woman, interested in pursuing graduate studies has helped me with funding considerations and the fact that my GRE wasn't that awesome, even if I knocked the TOEFL out of the park. Just a consideration for many international students. (Even though I'm not actually, technically, international)
  15. When will the rest of these universities put me out of my misery and finally tell me if I was accepted, waitlisted or rejected. :'(
  16. That's also me. Glad to know I'm not alone in this world. :')
  17. Depends on the dress, but ultimately, it's quite business casual. It's what I wear to work almost every day!
  18. That...I can't possibly answer. If you know a Linguistics professor or an anthropologist, who specialized in Indigenous cultures, maybe they could help.
  19. Oh, no! I hadn't seen this. I'm very sorry for you. I'm very bad at cheering people up, soooooo here's a picture of a golden retriever and a kitty: And remember, the PhDs adcoms are really picky when it comes to students. I recently got rejected from UChicago's PhD, so I understand how you feel. Now, I'm just waiting to hear back from UMass-Comp Lit.
  20. Unfortunately no, though that would be pretty darn awesome! There are people that carry over 99% of indigenous DNA, still, none of them actually live like the Tainos did. We're all a mix-up of Europeans, Tainos (native) and North Africans
  21. Here's to all UChicago's rejections: We made it far!
  22. I applied for two MAs and two Phds. Still waiting to hear from one MA and one PhD.
  23. Same here. :/ Still, no funding is not an option for me.
  24. I have to agree with this. CUNY professors are working hard on students in order to help them graduate faster, so they can acquire more students and train them better.
  25. Barely on-topic: Does anyone read their acceptance letters/emails when feeling blue? Unfortunately, I confess to doing so, in order to raise my spirit!
