  1. When I was interviewed, the professor told me that CUNY prepares you to actually have a job when you graduate. So...I would definitely think about it
  2. Porridge: Congratsss! I was accepted also! Are you an English or Comp Lit applicant? (I'm uaing my phone so I have no idea)
  3. This was incredibly helpful! Thank you so much! I agree about the cold weather clothing. I only have a few coats I used during a trip to New York and they pretty much suck. I probably won't buy a car there. I read through earlier posts that this was a bike-friendly city. Any true to that? And, is the bus system reliable? Thanks! I would upvote you, but I'm out of upvotes for today.
  4. Is anyone going to do a campus visit at UW-Madison?
  5. I understand you completely. This application process is beyond stressful and living five to eight years away from each other doesn't seem plausible at all. Still, we both agreed that this was my dream ever since I was a kid and I couldn't compromise my future because of him. He applied to some schools near me (NY/Massachusetts), but he hasn't heard back from them and neither have I. I'm getting antsy because the only program that has accepted me thus far is UW-Madison and I'm from Puerto Rico which will make traveling expenses hard on us. I'm sure he'll get in at the Master's program at the University of Puerto Rico and/or Law School, but I just wish the future was clear enough. This is beyond hard. I'm not a fan of long-distance relationships, but I'm scared that this is what will, most likely, happen to us.
  6. I'm thinking about making the move to UW-Madison, but I really have no idea where to even live. I read about the Harvey Street Apartments. Is that a good place to live? Also, I live in a furiously tropical Island: 80 degrees in "Winter" and the coldest I've ever experienced here has been about 58 degrees. Any advice as to how to confront the harsh cold winter weather?
  7. Don't! I honestly think that their application revision process takes longer than any other school. I'm still waiting to hear a word from them.
  8. I'm going insane and getting antsy over the waiting period. Can't they just get it over it? :'(
  9. I've heard Berkeley's program is pretty good on Anglo-Spanish lit.
  10. Where else did you apply?
  11. I wanted to relive this post to anyone considering UW-Madison to pursue graduate studies! I'm so anxious to find out if I was or wasn't accepted to any of the other schools so I can finally figure out what I'll do with my life. Also, I would like input from Madisonian students!
  12. Thank you!! I was nominated for a fellowship, but still no word about funding. :'(
  13. So far, I only have my UW-Madison acceptance. Still waiting to hear back from three other schools. Could anyone provide some advice regarding Madison: the university experience?
  14. Has anyone heard from UMass-Amherst, MA?
  15. Did anyone here apply for the Comp Lit department?
  16. Has anyone claimed a Comp Lit MA acceptance at UMass Amherst?
  17. Also, if anyone of you guys can speak Spanish. The University of Puerto Rico has some good graduate programs in English, Comp Lit, Caribbean Lit and Hispanic Studies. Just in case you were considering, a lower tuition school with just a $20 application fee.
  18. I was twenty when I applied, but just turned 21.
  19. Officially accepted at UW-Madison!!!! So happy!! I CANNOT believe ittt!!!
  20. Well, at least she has a partial fellowship! But you are too correct!
  21. You have to share how your visit goes! Lately, I've been wondering if it's worth it. Going the distance is quite pricey, specially when you live in a remote Island. :/
  22. Oh my God! Do you mind if I save this list?! It is incredibly detailed. Thank you!
  23. Thank you! Seriously, I'm just remembering how the internet connection broke off and was almost on the verge of tears. Still, you're right! I should be celebrating! It means they're somehow interested in me. It was with both Aciman and Lombardi (hilarious guy with awesome accent). They were very nice and wanted to get to know me better. I say that it was a bad experience because you somehow start reliving the awkward parts. Then, you end up concluding you're a complete philistine. Still, I can't state that it was wholly bad. I had my moments because I could see both professor just nodding in agreement to my proposals. I killed some questions and others weren't just as good. I guess we'll see.
  24. Has anyone claimed a Brandeis acceptance?
