  1. It's been a long two weeks, but I finally get to edit my signature again! Thankfully with some great news, too. I'm still going to hold out for these other programs, but I am so so so happy I can complete the dual degree at UT-Austin.
  2. Hahaha, you can never go wrong with some Step Brothers in your day. Thanks everyone!
  3. That is awesome news, @ediblestranger. I think the best problem to have is juggling multiple offers from great programs.
  4. Just received acceptance into UT-Austin LBJ for the MPAff!! Since I'm a dual degree applicant, my fellowship offer is $24,000 and a waiver of the non-Texas resident portion of tuition.
  5. I'm still considering myself undecided, only because I would prefer to have every admission decision in hand before signing any forms of enrollment. I am also a dual degree applicant, so that's a huge factor for making my ultimate decision: I would prefer the option to complete both master degrees over one. But just now, I received acceptance from UT-Austin's public affairs program! The ability to complete the dual degrees, plus the cost of living in Austin, along with the national recognition of UT-Austin has moved it to my top choice. Now I need to schedule an actual campus visit.
  6. Super Tuesday this year means graduate school admission news for me! What's that, presidential primaries? yeah sounds cool sure
  7. Best of luck, @anony2888!! Really hope you get some great news from either program.
  8. This will depend on the program/university. Minnesota Humphrey openly states that they'll reimburse travel costs to their admitted student day event for anyone traveling over 150 miles, up to $300. If a program isn't advertising this option, you may have to contact the program coordinator or admissions director to ask about this possibility. The worst they can say is, "no".
  9. This will vary by university; most are working on different deadlines to receive and process information sent by FAFSA. I would contact financial aid departments at the unis you applied to, if you are curious.
  10. Aha, that was my assumption. The MGPS program has been hearing back sooner than the MPAff program, which I applied to. Just had to double check.
  11. Firstly, congrats! Can you specify which program you were accepted into? Secondly, I'm pretty sure that money is yours to keep, even after your immediate need (tuition and fees) is fulfilled. Double congrats.
  12. Don't be! At least we know we'll be receiving some definite news in the very near future. That's all I really want at this point, haha.
  13. Ahh, University of Minnesota has moved my MSW app into FINAL REVIEW. It could go onto "Decision Made" in one day or one week's time, and then I'd still have to wait another business day to receive the actual admission decision. Suspeeeeense.
  14. Your age is should not be a concern! You're well within the median age ranges for the programs you listed, and it sounds like you've been working since you graduated which is an absolute plus. Otherwise, your profile looks fairly competitive but I can't really give any more feedback other than that; this process is a crapshoot once we've submitted all our materials and we can only hope for good news from these departments. Best of luck.
  15. Best wishes on your future endeavors, @seaweed sheets!
  16. This entire process turns into a crapshoot once we've submitted our applications, huh?
  17. Aw shucks. When are you expecting to hear from Rensselaer?
  18. That is awful! I really need to make a dentist appointment since I haven't gone in over a year, but now I'm extremely nervous! I've always had shoddy teeth as well.
  19. I'm happy to see that more of y'all are getting great news this week! It's shaping up to be another no-news week for me... but I guess it works out since I'm overwhelmed with the pile of work tasks on my desk right now that I don't feel the need to check application portals daily anymore. I'm just going to hold out for any email alerts.
  20. I can wait another two weeks! That's about when I expect to hear from the rest of my programs.

You mean "The Top" on Main Street! Great dining establish. I can vouch for Satchel's again and again and again.
  22. Conversely, you can email the admissions director of your program at Northeastern to ask for a deadline extension. You can explain that you are thankful for the good news from their department, but are awaiting other admission notifications and financial aid information to be received before making a decision. You don't need to specify which other programs you're waiting to hear back from. They may grant you the deadline extension, or they might not. For one of the programs I was accepted to, I was successfully able to move one of the enrollment decision deadlines from March 9 to April 11 with a succinct email following the above guidelines. Best of luck!

You're welcome! Yes, Gainesville is wonderfully cheap!! I usually coordinate my trips around payday so I can eat and drink as much as I please without feeling guilty about it, hahaha. I'm from another city in Florida and the cost of living in general in the state is a godsend.

Where did you stay during your visit? I went to UF for undergrad and still visit once a year since some of my friends still attend (both undergrad and graduate students). On a Labor Day weekend, students are either vacationing outside of Gainesville or tailgating for the football game; some parts of campus should be deserted while other parts should have been thriving. Gainesville is a quintessential college town that revolved around the campus. I had a very enjoyable time there. I recognize you mostly from the Wine, Whine and Wait thread so please feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about the area!
