U Washington Evans School Acceptances
RCtheSS replied to goforthegold's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Thank you, @dsr8080! Keep the hope alive for some good news. I'm not sure where I'll be going as of now; I'm trying to plan campus visits to Seattle as soon as possible.- 35 replies

Going off Windmills last comment: LBJ has a relatively strong alumni network in Washington, D.C. Plus, they just established a branch of their MPAff program in D.C. The school reports that 19 percent of their graduates end up employed in D.C.

I'm the February 1 acceptance entry on the results search. I applied by the Dec. 15 deadline.

It doesn't have to be solely on those factors, but I wouldn't discount the importance of them either. For the most part, we're all going into the world of public service, and for the most part, it does not pay as highly as we would like it to! Financial considerations and the cost of living on your fellowships in each area should be considered, along with potential post-graduate career opportunities and networks. Some folks even weigh weather as an deal-breaker when choosing a program. For me, having faculty and research centers conducting studies specific to my policy interests was vital. It may help to do a bit more introspection into what your short-and-long term career goals are to parse out which program would offer you the best pathway to those goals. After that, you can decide which livability factors (e.g. affordability, year-round weather, state/local politics) would really matter to you most. And of course, congratulations on each of your offers! At this point, there is no "wrong" decision that you could make. If possible, visiting each campus could also help you rank the programs and universities.

As of this morning, I'm 6 for 6 on acceptances so far. I'm coming after you, @Pink Fuzzy Bunny!

Since this thread has been resurrected, I suppose I'll also use it for fall 2016 admit purposes. I emailed Stacy about visit the campus, and she just responded: We are currently in the process of planning a couple of events for admitted students. We’ll be hosting a Virtual Open House (most likely in the first couple weeks of March) and an on campus Open House (most likely in late March). You are absolutely welcome to visit when your schedule allows though. If you have specific dates that work for your visit, just let me know, and I’ll help get you setup.

For those currently employed - does your employer know?

Haha, we are in the same boat. I started at my non-profit job in D.C. in July 2014, and I told my supervisor that I intend to stay through my hire date to hit the two-year mark. I think I got shafted on a raise this past fall; I got a taxed bonus instead, but I have accomplished so many tasks that were never part of my original job description. However, I don't think we'll be posting my position opening until late April to May, since folks won't be graduating until then. I don't mind sticking around to help train my replacement, but I'd like to give myself a month between leaving my job and starting school. -
I'm finally starting to de-stress about grad school applications, only because my job has become crazily overwhelmed in the last two weeks and everyone's feeling the brunt of it. I cannot wait to use my vacation days on some campus visits!

University of Michigan Social of Social Work Fall 2016
RCtheSS replied to SWinMI's topic in Social Workers Forum
Michigan is now the only university I have yet to receive any applicaton progress from on either MSW or MPP application. womp womp -
Indeed, it is frustrating. I would hope they would recognize the need for applicants to have all financial considerations on the table before making a commitment. My mom has always wanted to see Seattle, so I'm still going to take this opportunity to plan a mother-daughter spring break around the admitted student days.

My email said that we wouldn't hear about those optional fellowship offers until May...that's a pretty long wait, considering every program wants to know my intent to enroll by April 15. I'm going to try to visit the campus, but the likelihood that I enroll is slim.

I applied to UW on January 4 and got accepted last night! Whaaaaaaat?
-
@SDtoMPP: I received the fellowship offer in my acceptance letter as recognition for being a PPIA Fellow. And yes, my application status portal still says "No Decision Made".
-
I was accepted for the MPP with a fellowship, but I will likely decline the offer. I believe I will receive more reasonable financial offers from the other programs I applied to. But damn, if I didn't enjoy my visit of the campus.

Emails that don't turn out to be from grad school
RCtheSS replied to Nirvik's topic in Waiting it Out
Hahaha, I get you. As stressful as grad school admissions can be, we have to take a step back, breathe, and try to keep a positive outlook on life! It's not the end of the world (yet). -
Ditto! I'm so damn tired of this wait--just give me ANY news. Hell, getting seven rejections in a row at this point may just make my life easier.

Haha, I've been doing the same thing. You can never be too careful with this process. -

Thanks to another poster's recommendation, I changed the settings in my Gmail to sort out priority emails so I only get alerts for anything considered important. No more flipping out over a new message only to find out about Macy's new crazy sale (seriously, Macy's has sales every weekend now). -

Bahaha, nice. I enjoyed this one: Arizona? More like AriNOna. Arizona? More like SQUAREizona. Arizona? More like ArizoNAHHHHH. -
This is my question as well. I was able to find that they held an open house event for admitted students last year on April 6, so if they do have one in mind this year I'd guess that it will be around that same time. I've already emailed them about coordinating a campus visit, so perhaps they'll provide some specific dates in a reply.

Thanks, @iloveOM! I'm a Florida native, so hopefully I'll be able to adjust to the weather well enough! I have never been to Texas though, so it's time to schedule a visit! Great news all around! That's awesome, congrats!
