I have been rejected from two schools now and I'm getting nervous about not getting in. What is your plan B if you don't get in this cycle? Its so frustrating to not have an acceptance already and feel like I have no idea what is going on next year and not sure when to start looking for jobs.

Keep up hope! It looks like you're still waiting on some schools, and you never know what they'll say! Also, if it doesn't work out now, you can always take a gap year and apply next year. Or some schools offer spring admission!

If anyone is looking for a Plan B, I'd recommend applying to the North American Language and Culture Assistant program with the Spanish Ministry of Education. (Application are open until mid-April!) I've spent the past two years working as an English teaching assistant in Spain, and not only has it been a great opportunity to see Europe and experience living in a different cultural environment, the job has also given me a number of skills that I can take with me to graduate school (in addition to giving you the chance to practice/learn some Spanish!). I'd strongly recommend it. However, there are a number of things you can do for a gap year - one of my friends has spent a few years as a para and she's loved it, and another has worked as an SLPA!

If I don’t get in I’ll go the SLPA route and try again next year.

I am totally feeling the same way right now. My plan B is to move home again and be an SLPA for a year. I have jokingly expressed to my boyfriend that I expect a proposal and wedding if I do not get in anywhere. Although, I don't think that will be the case. I am a competitive applicant, and am sure I will get waitlisted at least somewhere. And if i get waitlisted there is hope. I would not worry to much yet, you still have a good chances of being accepted or waitlisted, do not let it get in your head yet. Every admissions committee is looking for something different. Good Luck.

Plan B: SLPA or ABA Therapy

Posted

I am applying to teach english abroad! I know I'll need some time to heal from the heartbreak of rejection if I don't get in anywhere, and I think it will be a good resume builder for if I decide to apply again, especially if I am able to become fluent in another language.

Hopefully I won't need a Plan B though ?
