PoliPsych123 Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 Hey guys, I've been applying to Lab Manager/Research Coordinator type positions to get more experience for grad school, and my undergraduate professor suggested to me that I perhaps apply to some Master's programs because I switched in my 3rd year into Psychology, and my GPA is a bit lower because I'm coming from an Engineering Background. I can't afford a Master's program that costs money/that I couldn't support myself from. Does anyone know schools that have Social Psychology/General Psych Master's programs that allow you to research/TA in order to pay for your tuition? Thanks in advance!
PsyDuck90 Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 Wake Forest in North Carolina has a funded masters, William Paterson University in NJ offers funding to some students, but I don't believe all, and College of William and Mary in Virginia does as well. If you search, this question has been asked before. I'm sure there are others but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. socialneurofriend 1

FWIW, William & Mary is the most generous, and might be the only one that guarantees full funding + stipend for all.
sparrow123 Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 To the best of my knowledge, most programs in Canada are like this, but then you'd have to pay more in tuition if you're not Canadian. Although the guaranteed amount of funding for most is quite low, only about $20000 CAD, which isn't very much.

webbz_world93 Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 I second Wake Forest— I didn’t go to school here but I work at the hospital and we have a few students that work with us for their assistantship. Wake seems like a great program! Also, I believe Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has a fully funded masters program. I went to another program for my MA, but this is where I went for undergrad. It’s also near St. Louis, so there is plenty of opportunity there!

PhDHopeful2021 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 My college roommate went to The University of Dayton's MA program (I believe it was clinical psychology) a few years back and her funding was really good (I believe full tuition and a good stipend). She loved the program and got several offers to clinical PhD programs after. I don't know if they fund everyone, but it's worth looking into.

They generally offer 2-3 fully funded graduate assistantships per year which completely cover tuition and give you a small but livable stipend. The students they don't give full assistantships to still receive clinical traineeships where they work at a practicum site for their stipend and have a few credit hours paid for, but not many. It's a good program with some good opportunities. However, some of the faculty there are pretty shady people and I don't recommend the program to anyone with thin skin. I got accepted to Villanova in late January and the email I received said that they'll be contacting us with info about graduate assistantships and funding sometime in mid-March. If anyone who attended Villanova is lurking around here, could you share any insight as to how generous the funding was? I'm also curious.
