Fall 2023 Admissions

Hey didn't see a thread for fall 2023 admissions so started an one. Have applied to only one program at NYU as it was the only department where my research interests could align. What about you guys? How's it going?

Hi! Thanks so much for starting this thread, I've applied to three progs and NYU is my top choice as well! Spoke to a prof recently and they're only accepting 4 kids for soc anth in total, rooting for us!

That's great! The prof. I could talk with told me that they conduct interviews in late jan-early feb for archaeology. Is it the same case for soc anth?

I applied to NYU's joint Ph.D. in French Studies and Anthro. It's my top choice, but you need to get into both separately!

Just finished applying to 13 programs in medical anthropology. I'm glad that's over for now. Thanks for starting this thread. Hopefully it'll serve as source of comfort for most people.

I applied to NYU too! Also University of Michigan, Boston University, UNC, UCLA, and Harvard all for arch.

I applied as a transfer. Well I basically applied again cause the current department is not a good fit. I am so nervous cause the place only take one person in their combined Anthro and WGSS PhD

I applied to the Anthro dept. i am not sure if they interview.  I plan to email the grad admissions director in Anthro to ask.  Almost All of the other schools have been clear about there being an interview, sometimes standard and other times just if they have further questions.  
 

i has surgery in the middle of the early application season and never got around to sending all the emails I intended. Mostly reached faculty but want to reach out to grad students and follow up with a few admissions folks in depts.

I am really anxious as well! I applied to 7 doctorate program for anthropology and haven't heard back yet. But based on past years' results, I think it is still too early. I do think that most programs will have interviews though (but I heard it is mostly casual virtual meetings with your POIs).

What's you area of study? Mine's more in the lines of South Asian Prehistory

Yes I did and after speaking to couple of graduate students. They took only one last year. I am so anxious about the whole process. Did you speak to any faculty there? Also Yale takes 4 Anthro PhD students every year. So.....

Applied to UCLA, UCSD, UCB, UC Irvine, UMich, CUNY, UPenn, Stanford, Duke, MIT, UPitt, Brandeis, Cornell. All for med anthro. Haven't heard anything yet. I'm guessing it's too early. Best of luck to everyone!!

Yes, I think it’s very early.  I scrolled through the last year’s Anthro results page and it seems mid January is when interviews start rolling out.

Also, the email I received from UCLA said stated specifically:

Decisions will be made as early as mid-February 2023 and are not released simultaneously. We wish you the best during this admissions cycle!

Hello everyone! I applied to Yale, Northwestern, Uni of Oregon, and WSU all for bio anth and this wait is killing me. Especially cause I just graduated and haven’t started a new job.

 

How many more times am I going to check the Promotions section of my email? ?
