cranberry Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Congrats to whoever got the USC acceptance! That's a terrific stipend.
ElCielo Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Congrats to whoever got the USC acceptance! That's a terrific stipend. I got the same offer (Provost Fellowship), but I am not the one who posted it in the results section. Who is the other admit? Any word from the department itself?
cranberry Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Do you suppose it's safe to say that Princeton is out if I haven't heard from them yet?
aletheuein Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Does anyone out there know whether the Classics (i.e. philology) track at Michigan has made definite offers to anyone yet? I know that they have a short list, but that they do not have the money to fly some (or perhaps all) of the folks on the short list out for an interview. What I'm trying to figure out is if the "short list" means "top of the wait list", or "we will soon offer invitations to some of the people on the short list but we don't quite know who yet."
nostimost Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I am also wondering about Princeton and Michigan, incidentally. Anyone have any info?
anonymous- one hopes Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 No clue on Princeton; I'd also like to know, though I'm in the camp of people who suspects that if we haven't heard yet, the answer is no. Re: Michigan: Classics, IPGRH, and IPCAA handle their admissions differently (even though all three admissions committees involve more-or-less the same clump of people), so this may be causing a lot of the confusion. Beyond that, I have no idea.
nemo189 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I am also wondering about Princeton and Michigan, incidentally. Anyone have any info? I do not know if this is at all helpful for you, but I was officially accepted to Michigan's IPGRH last week (w/ a 5 year funding package). They then invited me to their Recruitment Weekend in March. But it does sound like each program handles admissions differently! Good luck!
celph Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 No clue on Princeton; I'd also like to know, though I'm in the camp of people who suspects that if we haven't heard yet, the answer is no. But Princeton said they release all decisions on March 15th.
cranberry Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 But Princeton said they release all decisions on March 15th. But don't they do interviews? I assume since I haven't gotten an invitation by this point it's a no, whether they've told me or not. I can hope, though Also, where did you hear that?

You can hope they like you so much they don't even feel the need to interview you :-) Oops, I thought I had seen it on the Princeton website. http://www.princeton.edu/gradschool/admission/applicants/applying/application/ But it says "by March 15". Never mind me...
DiogenesCynicus Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 For anybody who's applied to the Classical Art and Archaeology program at UVA, decisions should be going out in the next few weeks, as the admissions committee has been meeting and is close to making their final selections, according to a professor I've been e-mailing.

Do you know if UVA has made decisions on straight Classics applications yet?
DiogenesCynicus Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Do you know if UVA has made decisions on straight Classics applications yet? No word on that yet. My point of contact is mainly concerned with the Classical Art and Archaeology program.
cranberry Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 *twiddles thumbs* I'm ready for some more news...
ElCielo Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 *twiddles thumbs* I'm ready for some more news... Hahaha. Seconded. What program does everyone most want to hear from and/or what potential acceptances could change your plans for the Fall? I'd like to hear from UCLA (if they haven't already sent out their invitations) and UT Austin.

Bill Lumberg Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Waiting on UBC and Florida State here. Admissions Committees! Whaaaaat's happening. You know, I'm gonna need you to go ahead and get back to me about all those applications I sent... yeah. If you could just go ahead and do that, that would be great. Thaaaaaanks. Rendar Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 @Gutian and ElCielo: What programs in specific at UBC and UCLA?
ElCielo Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 @Gutian and ElCielo: What programs in specific at UBC and UCLA? Just regular Classics, but I just noticed that you were accepted to the archaeology program there - congrats! That is incredibly awesome. I'm guessing that I am unofficially rejected from UCLA, since it seems like they would've had to have notified about interviews by now.

I'd like to hear from UCLA (if they haven't already sent out their invitations) and UT Austin. Well, I got the acceptances that I wanted (UBC for RelStud/Classics interdisc and McGill for RelStud, though I'm still waiting for an official letter from McGill), and I'm just biding my time now waiting for funding info. I'm leaning more towards UBC right now (hence why I'm more active on this thread than on the one in the Religious Studies section), but I can only know for sure once I get some funding offers. The wait is killing me... acceptances might mean nothing if I can't afford to attend.

Getting into my top choice would be the highlight of my life (well, one them at any rate).
Rendar Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Unfortunately I can confirm that UBC is dragging their heels on funding decisions. A colleague of mine mentioned that the committee is still discussing things. Naturally since it's Canadian they're probably wrapped up in waiting and worrying about SSHRCs (/sigh). I'm playing the same game with UCLA right now. The joys of public institutions, hehe. Edited February 15, 2011 by Rendar

I'm playing the same game with UCLA right now. The joys of public institutions, hehe. I'd heard essentially the same thing from the department itself at UBC. Information should be available by late Febuary. That probably does not bode well for funding for anyone that hasn't heard back about acceptance yet, but you can never be sure. The good thing is that some money is available, or they wouldn't have anything to discuss.
Gutian Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 @Gutian and ElCielo: What programs in specific at UBC and UCLA? MA in classical archaeology.
