I see. I received a rejection last year on the 16th of January but nothing this year. I have even triple checked that I submitted my application

I submitted last week and got the invite to do the optional video interview which I think I have to submit by Weds, and I'm not sure what to expect from it -- seems like we don't have a ton of opportunities to retake questions or that much time to prepare answers after we can see the questions, so would love any tips anyone might have !

Even though I haven’t heard back or gotten any updates yet, I wanted to share the unis I applied to: – Northwestern MFA – UCI MFA – BU MFA in Visual Narratives I saw above that one of our colleagues got invited to interview at Northwestern (congrats! 🎉) Has anyone else heard back? I applied to all of them right at the deadline. BU sent me a pretty standard email saying they’ve started reviewing applications, but nothing specific. There was also a bit of an email list mixup, but was told earlier in the week that a UCSB interview invite is coming (someone else posted here that they got an invite last weekend, so this isn't news). Congrats to those who've gotten interviews so far, and commiserations to all of us dealing with the pain of waiting to hear! I looked through last year's forums and the only person who mentioned their school received a rejection letter after the 2nd week of February. I think it's fair to assume they will reach out early February for interviews, but they could reach out late January ( next week) depending on the number of applicants. If anyone also applied to Rutgers, I assume this would be the same timeline for them. I remember reading people last year received interview requests in early February, and both schools had their deadlines on January 3 and 1 respectively .
No-Evidence8843 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 If this helps anyone who’s worried about others already receiving interviews or acceptances while they’re still waiting to hear back, just know that schools have different timelines for a few reasons. Some programs that have already reached out had early December deadlines, while most schools have deadlines in January. In some cases, January deadlines pass a week or two before the spring semester begins, and admissions committees still need to reconvene to review applications. Additionally, some schools simply receive more applications than others. Yale, for instance, tries to be transparent, but they also have a much higher volume of applicants than normal, upwards of 1,600 total. Other highly competitive programs may receive around 200–350 applications, give or take, which is still a lot to review, especially when narrowing acceptances down to roughly a dozen people or less. Meanwhile, some schools may average closer to 50 applicants and are able to reach out much sooner. It’s not uncommon for a school with a smaller applicant pool to contact applicants just a few days after their deadline. Also, not every school conducts interviews before making a decision. Programs that extend acceptances without interviews often have fewer applicants and may already consider your work to be very strong. January is a particularly tough month to get through, since most schools tend to reach out in February. Hopefully this helps anyone who’s feeling unsure about timelines.
