tortola23 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 This is my top choice, a total reach, and I'm kind of a mess waiting on the decision. If I get into UT, I get to stay in Austin with my significant other. If I get in nowhere I can also stay here if I like. If I get in to another school, I have to move. Last year they started notifying around February 18th. Anyway, just wanted to have a pity-party with anyone else waiting on this program.

Last year they started notifying around February 18th. Anyway, just wanted to have a pity-party with anyone else waiting on this program. I also applied to UT-Austin (specifically to their Digital Literatures and Literacies program) and I, too, am still awaiting a response. Hang in there! I'm sending good vibes your way!
tortola23 Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 Thanks, I'm sending good karma to you, too! My focus is postcolonial lit.
rhianita Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I know right. The wait is killing me! I applied for the Ed.M. in Higher Education Management and I can't take this waiting anymore!
gradgirlwannabe Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I'm waiting too! 20th century American and Chicano/a literature.
lyonessrampant Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Also waiting. I messaged my friend in their Eng Ph.D. program to see if she had any insider info. . .haven't heard back yet. . .
woolfie Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I got an email saying we should know by the 1st of March. Which is way too far away.
lyonessrampant Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Yeah, I got that email as well, but it says: "Professors on the admissions committee will be making admission, denial, and wait-list decisions by the end of February 2011. If you have not heard from us by March 1, 2011, please contact me through e-mail." I'm hoping this means that a lot of the notification will happen toward the end of February (hopefully the last couple weeks) and that not hearing by March 1 would be an unusual circumstance.
tortola23 Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 I got that email, too. I'm expecting to hear before March begins. I really, really hope that's next week and not even later.
gradgirlwannabe Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Can I safely assume that you received these e-mails in response to inquiries? I haven't heard anything since before they began the review process.
woolfie Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Can I safely assume that you received these e-mails in response to inquiries? I haven't heard anything since before they began the review process. No I didn't, I just got an email randomly. BUT. I want to stress that I'm positive that if you didn't get it, it doesn't mean anything, assuming your application was complete and everything. If you'll see in the Wisconsin thread, some people were kind of freaking out because they didn't recieve an anagalous email about knowing by Feb. 14. I got the email and others didn't and I got rejected. It means nothing; it's random.
snappysorbet Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I'm waiting on UT-Austin too, and although it's definitely one of my top/dream schools, I don't have high hopes. Fingers crossed! And hopefully we'll find out next week!
courtniep Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 This was one of my top choices too. That early deadline snuck up on me and I rushed to clean up my writing samples, inevitably making a bunch of errors in my second sample. And I've been lamenting that fact for two and a half months. I want in to UT so baaaaaaad. 19th century American lit. It's not a perfect fit but I would DIE if I got in. As I write this I have to wonder if these demi-gods who decide the rest of our lives ever check out this website for a cruel chuckle....

I had the same problem with the early deadline; I submitted sub-par documents too, but once they were edited, I sent in my edited documents, and the program coordinator replaced the ones I submitted initially. VERY nice woman, from my email correspondence with her. Keeping digits crossed!
tortola23 Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 I see an acceptance. Is this a real one? I am so nervous.
lyonessrampant Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Me too. Does the admit want to share any information? If numbers stay the same, they've admitted about 20. . .I sure hope that's the case this year as well. Congrats to the admit and best of luck to all of us waiting. . .
tortola23 Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 Yes, good luck! That's a pretty good-sized cohort relative to most other schools. I really wish I weren't at work right now. It's impossible to concentrate on anything.
Chris83 Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I see an acceptance. Is this a real one? I am so nervous. Ahhhhh! Congrats to the lucky applicant who posted their acceptance! Excuse me while I commence with the nervous twitching and stomach butterfly-ing now.
lyonessrampant Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Right there with you. I feel like I might vomit Please, please, please!
augustquail Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Gah! An acceptance! I wonder if they do it in one shot, or in rounds? Has anyone here scoured the results pages to see what they've done in years past?
tortola23 Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 Has anyone's information changed in the UT Direct portal?
lyonessrampant Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Mine doesn't work. When I enter my info I get a status box that says when I last logged in and then I click OK and it gives me an error screen that says HTTP Status 404. . .
augustquail Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Mine hasn't changed either...it just says 'all of my credentials have been submitted for review'
lyonessrampant Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Wait. . I think I was in the wrong place. When I check status it just says everything has been sent to the department for review.
tortola23 Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 (edited) Looks like they did them over a couple of days last year, and there were some rejections before there were any acceptances. Also my page hasn't changed either. GAAAHAHAHDHGFAGJ Edited February 21, 2011 by tortola23
