MFA Creative Writing- Results

I have applied for an MFA in Fiction (begin Fall 2014) to all of the CUNY Programs in NYC as well as NYU.  Has anyone heard regarding their applications in these programs as of yet?

Hi! I got a phone call on Friday morning from Brooklyn College--I'm in for poetry. So I'm sure you'll be hearing this week at least!

Received a waitlist from UIUC!

Decisions - did Brooklyn give any indication as to whether they were done contacting poetry acceptances? There are a few people in the MFA Draft waiting to hear from them.

I saw that some people said they went on the Iowa website and found their rejection there. Does anyone know exactly how you would find this? I tried going on the online application but the status just says "Submitted." And nothing has come in the mail...

thanks!

My guess is those folks were denied in an earlier phase of consideration and then Iowa dropped the ball on informing them.

In this game, No News ranks right below Accepted & Wait-Listed, and right above Rejected.

GOOD LUCK! I hope your dreams come true.

GOD I HOPE SO!

I just looked at the Bama online app and it says my Application Status is "Referred for review by dept (2/24/2014)"

I hope that means they're giving me some heavy consideration and will let me know ASAP!

Anything with the word "refer" sounds like Really good news!!! Congratulations!  This makes me feel soooo antsy!   So the Indiana secretary never responded to your ever-so polite inquiry?

I'll take your congrats even if it ultimately is in vain... but I hope not. Got rejected by Brown while I was typing that last post; that makes 8/11 -- OH BOY. Also, this morning I got a phone call and it was from the Oregon area code, and I thought, "Golly, this is it...", but no, it was just a solicitor. That really messed with my head.

So yeah, Indiana never responded and I'm feeling super antsy too.

I will savor the glimmer of hope gleaned from Bama.

I have had similar things happen (with solicitors)...It about gives a person a heart attack! Congrats on the "review" from Bama! I hope it means all good things, Bama has a wicked program.

And let another week of waiting commence...

Hey! Congratulations!!!  Is that your first acceptance? Awesome. I seriously dread hearing back from Indiana and Columbia now, but OH how I crave it!

Thanks so much! Yes it is my first official acceptance (this year) I got into Emerson last year but decided not to go because their lack of funding and just decided the program wasn't what I wanted.

I talked to the editor-in-chief of the journal I work at today and he went to Indiana way back when and knows some people there now and had recently talked to them. He talked like they should be making calls/emails by the end of this week/beginning of next. I hope you hear good news soon! I have my fingers crossed for you and send good vibes your way. Keep telling yourself "No news is good news."

Oh Jeez-- I just got an email from Indiana's administration-- They've already filled "a few" spots in their program, but have (only!) a few more seats to fill, which will be done by next week!!!!! I think our chances are even slimmer now.

I'm with you on the round two idea... It must be foolishly optimistic, but I feel really good about trying again. I might speak for all of us first-time app-ers when I say it's been quite a learning experience!  And I feel like my poetry has developed so much more since I submitted my manuscript... I look back at it and shudder.

MoJuiced, I feel like I'm living vicariously through your decision tumult...that red lettering, god!

Keep at it you guys, when I didn't go anywhere last year I was super bummed, but it gives you time to intern for a journal (there are tons of websites that list great internships w/ journals and other places), tutor, do workshops, all those things that will make your app impossible to deny the next go around.

Definitely learned a lot in the process. Very thankful for all of the work I read during my research and my newfound understanding of the process and programs. I don't even actually mind the rejections (slightly relish them), it's just the agony of suspense that is mounting and mounting to near insurmountable proportions.

As I posted on FB "at least I'm stronger and have more character now". Anyway they can't stop me no matter how hard they try. I'm keeping count too.

Thanks for the camaraderie you guys! I'm pulling for you as well, even beyond just getting accepted.
