I found this about statuses for the MSW:

http://www1.carleton.ca/socialwork/2013/2013-14-msw-applicants-admissions-decisions

However, I applied for a different program. I'm not sure if the statuses are universal for all programs.

For Carleton applicants, it looks like decisions are being sent out for MSW... That isn't my program, but as the same system is being used, I was wondering if anyone knows what the status progression is for applications on Carleton Central?

So far I've seen:

1. "Preliminary review required" (default on application) to

2. "Review in progress by department" (not sure if this review is the preliminary one to acknowledge that I have all documents or the actual assessment by the department) to

3. "Recommended for assessment" (once again, not sure if it's recommended for assessment by the department since it passed the preliminary review or the Faculty of Graduate Affairs as already reviewed by the department)

No communications to check from Carleton yet, I've just been obsessively checking.

Can anyone else provide more information on statuses?

Hope the wait isn't driving anyone too crazy!

Seems like Carleton is pretty competitive, but the whole MSW application process is competitive in itself. I just loved Ottawa and really enjoyed my experience at Carleton (BSW).

I wish good luck to everyone, and hope to potentially see some of you on campus this fall!

P.S. To those who have applied to MSW programs before, how long does it usually take to hear back from U of T, Ryerson, and York? Carleton seemed to have responded quite quickly.

Thanks!

Advanced standing always hears back sooner than 2yr.  For U of T, you are guaranteed to hear back before March 15th.  Last year they sent out decisions at the very beginning of March, the year before around 1.5 weeks in.  York is ...well....unpredictable.  You will hopefully find out in March sometime but I wouldn't hold my breath.  Ryerson only has advanced standing so they are reviewing a much lower total of applications. In previous years they sent out decisions at the end of Feb....I suspect you will hear back from them sooner than later.

Has anyone had any phone communication with U of T or received any glimpses into where they are in the process?  C'mon, somebody throw me a bone...anything to confirm that they (the admissions committee) haven't all gone on vacation   :P

On a more emotionally stable level, so glad that it is finally March!! :D

Did you try making contact with them yourself lol?  Just wondering.

Well aren't you the smarty pants! haha  :P

I know, I'm a total chicken.  This is my second time applying and last year I did call once or twice.  The person was very no-nonsense but did answer my questions without rushing me off the phone.  I just dont want to call because I have in the past.  I know, it makes no sense but that is just the way I feel about it. But give it another week of silence and I may just cave  B)

That's understandable!  I find myself checking the site every other day too, wondering if there would be a change when I login this time...

As you mentioned earlier, it is March so there is a big possibility we will hear back in a matter of days.  My guess is next week or the week after at the latest.  They wouldn't want to keep students waiting for too long especially when other schools are extending their offers too.

apparently U of T decisions for the advanced standing program will be mailed out on March 7th.

That's awesome, thanks!

Does that imply that decisions have all been made and that they are just doing the paperwork??

I have no idea. Nobody knows the specific logistics because they don't really publicize this stuff. I'm with you on that it's hard everyday to check the mail with nothing, but if you let it slip to the back of your mind for a bit, it will definitely feel faster. best of luck to everyone.

It can be such a difficult wait.  I've actually been doing quite well with it up until a few days ago. I think it is the fact that it is finally March that pushed me from casually waiting to frantically tapping my foot with impatience  :P  But now knowing that decisions wont be mailed out until the 7th, I'm back in the 'casual' zone B) (thanks again for that! Really, you just saved me from gorging on another bag of doritos :) )

Since U of T would still need to go through a large stack of applications for the 2yr with an April deadline, I cant imagine that they are still making decisions on the 1yr.  But like you said, we aren't privy to that stuff but it would be great to know.

Unrelated to this thread, but everyone should sign this petition! Very important for women's health :)

Totally agree with this petition! I did some work over my reading week with sexual health and HIV and we discussed this policy change quite a bit - so ridiculous!

Hey there!

On Thursday (Feb 28) I was so excited to see my application status for Carleton University change from "review in progress by department" to "recommended for assessment" because, according to the School of Social Work website, it means I will be getting an offer my March 4th (today). When I checked the status of my application (just for fun) again a few days later, my status had changed back to "review in progress by department". I have no idea what has happened. I've tried calling and emailing the administrator at the School of Social Work but due to the large volume of emails and phone calls, she is delayed in responding.

I am wondering if anyone has a take on my situation. I think it's so cruel to say I am accepted and then shortly after take it away. I'm hoping it's just a glitch in the system but who knows what's going on, I can't get a hold of anyone.

That is awful!  I'm sorry, I cannot offer any concrete information, only assumptions.  Perhaps they released the information too early based on some internal timeline?

Are you supposed to get snail-mail confirmation of acceptance today or is it supposed to be by email?

I inquired about the application process for Windsor and they said that their aim is for the beginning of April. They also said that people with offers will get mail while those with rejections will only be emailed this year. Also, they said that it can take a couple months for the whole process to be complete since after the initial offers are sent out people are given two weeks to accept and they will obviously mail out more as people decline.

Thanks for sharing that information. I must admit, I'd prefer to receive the new later on. If I get sad news, it would be during my birthday. Keeping my fingers crossed for good news and an amazing birthday celebration!!

Awesome! Do you know if they will be updating the decisions online as well in the process? (on MyUWindsor)

Yah they said SIS but I'm sure they will both be updated since they are basically the same thing.

Don't worry, just go back to their website:

http://www1.carleton.ca/socialwork/2013/2013-14-msw-applicants-admissions-decisions

it said that:

Some of you may have noticed that this status has changed to “Review in Progress by Department“.  This means all offers need final approval of the Faculty of Graduate and Post-Doctoral Affairs (FGPA) before they can be sent to successful applicants.

Does SIS show any admission information? I just logged on and can't really see anything...

I would LOVE to get into Windsor...it's been my first choice school since I started looking into Windsor. AccioMSW, I feel like we have the same goals! Applied to the same schools, have the same preference! What "stream" did you apply to? How long was your professional experience form?

I would like to stop freaking out now but I have a feeling that that's impossible these days.
