How much funding do they guarantee?  I know where I am you are guaranteed 4 years of funding, but there are plenty of fellowships and adjunct positions that no one seems worried about funding an extra year or two.  It's worth checking, at least.

For my program, I get 4 years. The issue is, those last one to two are when I'm doing my dissertation. My other program gives me a first and half of last year fellowship. I mean, I think I just really like the inter-disciplinary program. But I can still get that at Tufts, just not under the name of a certificate.

If you applied to Loyola University Chicago, I emailed and asked when notifications would go out.  The DGS answered back within an hour and a half and said they'd be notifying in the next two weeks but that there were only four funded offers (of which I am not one.)  It was a very kind, gracious email.

Just wanted to let people know in case they applied there!  I'm somewhat inured to major disappointment at this point.  I kinda just want the official rejections to come, if they are going to come.

Are you asking about funding at Fordham? If so, they fund for 5 years, takes an average of 7-8 years to finish the dissertation (there are fellowship offers for that time)

Looking for an automatic good mood boost during stressful rejection times? My tip: when you go to Starbucks, randomly pay for the drink of the car behind you.

Who doesn’t love a random act of kindness? It really will make you smile.

How do you know what they're going to order?!?!?!

Curious about the waitlister for CU Boulder on the results page - are you an internal applicant (I ask because on the results board it says it's the only school you applied to, and because if so, I'd know you, and if I know you, I'd want to congratulate you)?

Because if you're in a drive thru, then presumably the car behind you has ordered by the time you make it to the window. Kamisha is also prescient.

I guess I've never been through the drive-thru.  Thank you.

Kamisha - can we nominate you for a Miss. Congeniality award or something? You're too awesome for real-life.

Only on Sundays. The rest of the week I’m a real piece of work.

Better than me - I'm just a piece of work 24/7 - just ask my boyfriend/romanticallyinvolvedroommateof5years.

I mean...he’s stuck around, so you can’t be that bad? Am I right? ;)

Do you guys know if Harvard English has a wait-list and, if so, how the notifications are sent out—email or, like they rejections, postal?

I wish Helen Vendler thaught in a less selective school!

Seeing that despejado (?) got considered for a fully funded MA position at Syracuse, (I offer my sincerest of congrats to you by the way, way to go!) does that mean we MA applicants have no chance, since our positions will be relegated to the back until AFTER PhD applicants will be considered for MA positions? :'[   I applied to the Syracuse MA program for English, and I wonder if I should start anticipating another implied rejection...

I was thinking about this the other week when someone mentioned they got considered for Carnegie Mellon's MA department (when they were applying for PhD's).

I'm sorry if I sound whiney or rude, I'm just really stressed. I figured nobody will want a first-timer MA applicant anyway when there are so many competitive PhD applicants around and will obviously be considered first. I don't even care about funding at this point, getting in anywhere would be a miracle.  :(

There's no reason to think that PhD applicants would be considered first or ranked higher in the decision process, as far as I know. You are all coming from the bachelor's degree and taking the next step. Equal footing, I would imagine. Just coming from different piles of paper.

ETA: Plus, if you applied for Humanities, not English, then we might be talking about different committees, different timeframes, and different applicant pools altogether.

I’ll “ditto” this. I mean I can’t say for certain, but I think they’ll likely take the most competitive applicants for the position no matter what. They wouldn’t accept PhD applicants to the MA as a “consolation” prize; they’d only take them if they really want them.

I know it sucks, but you’ll find your fit! I don’t think Syracuse has even started notifying MA students other than those who applied to the PhD.

Definitely don't stress! The DGS said they'd only just begun to look at the MA applications, so there's hope :)
