23439120314 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Those of you admitted to Kentucky, did they send you anything specifically from the department? All I received was notification to check my account which led me to a letter from the graduate school, but I haven't had any communication from the department itself yet.
falernian Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I'm curious about the UGA funding notification too. I'm way on the other side of the country, so my letter got to me like two weeks later than everyone else's. It'd be helpful to know if the funding info's coming by mail too.
PetroniusArbiter Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 i can confirm that harvard is sending out acceptances by phone, even to international students. does anybody have inside information on candidates for the three positions for which harvard is currently advertising? the department could look completely different by august. other useful information gleaned from interviews: yale has sent out eight acceptances, all at once, and they'll take however many accept. princeton is interviewing eleven people and will accept nine before the end of next week. so far as i know there's no wait list for either school. The Classics Job Wiki (http://classics.wikidot.com/1-2013-2014-classics-ancient-history-archaeology-job-market) reports that Naomi Weiss, fresh from Berkeley Classics, will be the new Assistant Professor in Greek (she is a Euripides specialist). It also reports that visits are happening now for the Phil job (so I would look at their events calendar if they have one), but no news on the Latin job.
actual_entity Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 thanks! adcom reports that harvard was authorized to hire another greek lit specialist in addition to naomi weiss. there's also a search going on for a byzantinist, making five new hires all starting next year.
Furcifera Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 On the off-chance any of you MA-seekers applied to Maryland, I bit the bullet and emailed JH; they've made their offers, accepted students visiting campus, etc. Sounds like more offers will be extended if those four students decide on other programs.
BTKOU Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Congrats to those who were accepted at UC. I was put on the waiting list, and am curious what is the focus of the archaeology students who were accepted.
Serenus Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I'm still waiting to hear from UCincinnati...waiting for the putative axe to fall is making doing work difficult, since it seems likely we'll all hear at some point today. When did they contact you?
Marcus_Tullius Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Congrats to those who were accepted at UC. I was put on the waiting list, and am curious what is the focus of the archaeology students who were accepted. I got one of the acceptances and my focus is (perhaps predictably for UC) the Aegean Bronze Age, specifically the Late Bronze Age Argolid and Thessaly. I'm debating between UC or UT Austin as both are great for BA stuff. I'm still waiting to hear from UCincinnati...waiting for the putative axe to fall is making doing work difficult, since it seems likely we'll all hear at some point today. When did they contact you? I saw the notifications on here and emailed Professor Davis who had tried to contact me on Skype the night before. He emailed back with positive news and wants to talk this evening (UK time). Phone/Skype seems to be the preferred first option.
LorenzoilMagnifico Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Hey there fellow Classicists! I am wondering what the person who got into UBC's Classics is focusing on, and also who contacted them? Thanks for any feedback!! =D
Melian4 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 For those who have applied to ISAW (NYU) -- interviews were held over the last two weeks, and all offers came out yesterday.
ewok Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Out of curiosity, has anyone heard from Rutgers yet? It looks like their notifications tend to go out later than other schools, but the silence is killing me.

It looks like their notifications tend to go out later than other schools, but the silence is killing me. I am feeling the same. It has been 3 months since I have submitted my application. Are you applying to an engineering program ?

Fabricator Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Has anyone heard about Cambridge funding yet? They seem to have sent out acceptances over the last couple of weeks but no one I know who has one seems to know anything about funding at the moment
Marcus_Tullius Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Has anyone heard about Cambridge funding yet? They seem to have sent out acceptances over the last couple of weeks but no one I know who has one seems to know anything about funding at the moment I know a couple of people who got funding, both were former students of the Faculty - the department has NO money at the moment (3 funded spots last year) and I was talking to a senior Professor the other day who said they have even less this year...
elegia Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Hello! Recent lurker popping in here Has anyone heard about funding at UGA? I saw a post a while back saying that the first round of offers has gone out, but I still have not heard anything on my end. I was accepted back in January, and my letter had said that although it was still too early in the process to tell me anything for sure, I was near the top of the waiting list and that they hoped to be able to offer me funding. I wasn't entirely clear on the wording so I'm having trouble discerning exactly where I stand and what my chances are for funding. Does anyone know anything about their funding situation as of now?
comicline865 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) I think it's common for funding at public universities to remain uncertain into late March/early April. Moreover, public universities often apportion funding through a complex, bizarre, and bureaucratic system consisting partly of private endowments (departmental and otherwise) and partly of university money based, among other things, on departmental rankings of candidates. I think it's appropriate to inquire politely where you stand in the process, as the deadline for grad school choices are approaching and they can potentially give you valuable information about what to expect. I think it's appropriate to inquire politely where you stand in the process, as the deadline for grad school choices are approaching and they can potentially give you valuable information about what to expect. I'm sure this is the case at many places, but at most public universities I've applied to (this season and a few years ago for a different field), I was offered funding either immediately or not at all. In my own sample, UGA's an outlier.
falernian Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Just wanted to confirm what the posters above are saying. I was one of the UGA acceptances and reached out to ask about funding--received a response that they've sent out initial offers and are waiting to hear back before sending out more. They're my number one program, so if anyone has an offer they know they're going to turn down...
RomulusAugustulus Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 So, I know IPCAA's visiting days aren't until next weekend, but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about their decision process? There is one rejection from this year on the results board, and I know in past years they have sent rejections before their visiting week (mid-late February), but I haven't heard anything. I wasn't invited to visiting week, so I am assuming I will be rejected, but I have no idea why I haven't heard anything. Anyone else in this situation? I know they do snail-mail rejections, so maybe mine just got lost (that would be annoying)? I have another offer, but I would really like to know for sure about IPCAA before I make a decision. Someone posted they emailed and were told they were wait-listed? If that person is around, could you PM me and let me know if they told you anything about when you might hear? Thanks!
ILikeWine Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 UC-Boulder is my top choice and has listed me at "near the top" of the waitlist for funding. If you have already decided on somewhere else, please let them know!!

aurora_nova Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 UC-Boulder is my top choice and has listed me at "near the top" of the waitlist for funding. If you have already decided on somewhere else, please let them know!! I'm going to apologize, because it is very possible that I am now one of the people holding you up (although I hope not). I too was waitlisted for funding at UC-Boulder, but I was just informed yesterday that I've been offered a teaching assistantship. Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to accept the offer until fairly late, as I'm still waiting to hear back from several places, both about decisions and funding. At the moment, UC-Boulder is my only funded offer of acceptance, so I will be accepting if I do not hear from elsewhere by the April 15th deadline. I will second your reminder to everyone who has been accepted and either knows for sure where they are going to attend or has decided that a certain program is out of the running, that they please inform the program they know they will not be attending about their decision to decline! In my case I was also accepted to the FSU MA program and am waiting to hear about funding, so please for anyone who is sitting on a funded offer at FSU and knows they will not be going, let the program know as soon as possible. I heard from the director of graduate admissions that they have so far only had one acceptance of funded offers and no declines, and so funding for everyone waiting remains up in the air.
kingharvest Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Anyone heard anything more from Michigan yet?
