Communication/Media Studies Ph.D Fall 2014--Apps, Decisions, and Waiting...

Recommended Posts

Just heard back from CU-Boulder. I did not get accepted, which was expected after I had some problems with my application. While the stipend is good, I felt the program was the worst fit for me as well.

Good luck to those who also applied, the letter said that they received about 80 applicants.

Yes yes, my flight time is horrendous, but I shal be there.  I'm pretty darn excited for it.

Yay! I'm flying into Philly and driving because the flights are crazy expensive. But I will see you both there!

Not a word. My application still says "Incomplete"-- though I did email them last week and let them know that I am not required to submit TOEFL scores given I'm a U.S. citizen.

I have not heard from Pitt either, regarding a decision or when they will make one.  But I contacted them about what the website said was my missing GRE score - turns out they are having trouble with their grad applicant tracking system.

Wow that's such a good idea.  I have a decent layover in Phil before connecting to SCE.  Also, I dislike flying.

Yeah, that State College flight is a tiny plane, too.  (The little planes creep me out haha.)  Also the fare was like $250 cheaper to just fly to Philly.

Thank you for calming my anxiety(ies).  I can't wait to hop off that plane drenched in sweat and freak out the department !

Lol sorry! But I'll probably have to drive in the treacherous snow/ice or something, so we'll both be evenly freaked out.  Hahahaha!

I got lucky with two notices today. Unfortunately they were my bottom two choices. The wait continues!

I should clarify that. I am actually incredibly excited to possibly work with the people at Utah, but their stipend is expected to be around 14K, which is probably not viable because I have a wife and a kid.

Mine says the same - I'm officially "international" but I'm British and did my MA in the US so I'm exempt from the TOEFL requirement.

I had a call from Minnesota today wanting to discuss my research - not sure what that really means.  I also had a call from UIC saying they want to offer a fellowship but were missing a signature on a form so could I sign it again and send it to them.  So I guess that means I'm in there but it's all a bit inconclusive!

Congrats to you as well! Yessir, flying in from Michigan for the weekend. Do you plan on attending?

I am planning on it. My sister and her family live in Omaha, so I'm planning on making it a small vacation.

UPEEN (UPENN) applicants check your email. I just got rejected though I knew this 2 weeks ago as informed by my POI.

So far no acceptances 3 to go. Someone please send me some good vibes I beg you ;)

Congrats! Just heard back: Rejected. Was my only comms program (others are polisci). Thought I had better chances.

If you don't mind what are your GRE/GPA numbers, leblebleb?

sigh

I would be interested as well in what your application portfolio looks like.

Congrats! Penn really has no peer, especially in terms of amount of applicants. I was a really good fit there, but I always knew I had a few warts on my application, particularly coming from a PoliSci background and lacking an MA.

Blessing in disguise as it was the one school I really couldn't turn down, but also would have left me with no ability to live with my fiance.

leblebleb7, it is time you go to Annenberg's page where they show how many of their recent grads are on tenure track. Just look at that page and continually pat yourself on the back. That is your future - tenure track!
