Does UNC do the unofficial waitlist thing? Or does it differ by department? Anyone else still waiting on them? I contacted them and I'm not rejected yet, but offers have gone out I'm sure... waitlist?

I got an email saying that I won't hear anything until after the April 15th deadline about the waitlist...Ugh :'(

Is anyone planning on accepting another offer and then backing out of it (losing $300) if you hear back from your waitlist schools? I really have no clue what to do right now....meh

I have not heard a peep from my top school, though I know they have sent out their first round offers.  I was wait listed at my 2nd choice, and accepted to my 3rd choice.  It looks like I probably won't hear back from the wait list school until after April 15th, so do I go ahead and accept the offer that I did receive then retract later if I am accepted off of the wait list?

Or should I just call them both tomorrow and see what the deal is?

I am in the same boat… I guess I am going to accept my offer then back out later.  Luckily the school I was accepted to does not require a deposit.  But I wish I didn't have to go that route.

It must differ by dept. because I got a notification in March that I'm on the wait list for BBSP.

Sounds like you're on the unofficial wait list.  I'm in the same situation with UVA.

What do you do with an unresponsive department? The last email they sent me was March 8 (one month ago). I have tried following up twice since then. and have heard nothing. But for goodness sake, the deadline is in a week!

I should say that my waitlist is prof-specific. i.e. if her lab has a spot open, she tells/acccepts me. Should I try emailing someone else in the department since she's MIA? She's on sabbatical, but aside from the last few times has always answered emails promptly.

I was rejected from off the waitlist at my top choice today... but the rejection comes a day after an acceptance from another program! I am taking this waaay better than I anticipated.

Still one waitlist to hear from! Good luck, everyone. We're getting right down to the wire.

Still no email from top choice. Looks like I'm waiting this one out until the bitter end. Part of me just wants to accept my second choice so it will all be over with, but at the same time...

Waiting is no fun! Thank goodness the 15th is only two days away.

I was wait listed back in March to my #1 choice.  I was pretty damn excited that I was not outright rejected.  I sent a brief email thanking them for taking the time to review my application...explaining why this was my top choice...here is what I have been up to since I applied...still interested...The initial email I received stated that if I had any questions to just ask; so I also included a question at the end asking if there were anything I should or could do...never received a reply.

Last night I received a brief rejection "message" via email...we receive a lot of qualified applicants...only have a limited number of seats...you put a great deal of effort into your application...good luck to you and your future pursuits...denied, c-ya.

Extremely bummed.

Same here, Crucial. At least the secretary was nice enough to also include some encouraging words. I just wish going to my second choice didn't mean having to break up with my SO. I would be totally happy right now if not for that. At least we can be extremely bummed together.

I'm sorry to hear that. I was really rooting for you to get into UCI. It sucks to be sitting on top of the waitlist and not quite make it in the end.

Thanks for the kind words. On the bright side, I am now totally stoked to go to my second choice which is a great fit and I'm slowly but surely recovering from my breakup. At least I'm going to a school that has been nationally recognized for having lots of really attractive people! Not that I'll have time for a relationship, but it's nice to do a little window shopping, if you know what I mean. ;D
