Cottagecheeseman Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I've applied to 7 terminal MA programs. I just heard back from the first one, Georgia State University: Rejected. Pretty bummed about this. I was under the impression that GSU's program would be one of the less difficult to get into, being that they had 23 spots open. A friend of mine just got rejected there, he's pretty heartbroken, it was his 'safety school'.
turambar85 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Do we only have one known rejection from the University of Tennessee? And has anybody claimed it?

Honestly, I feel like things are totally up in the air. It's a guessing game the whole way through, and I doubt anyone can really have a safety school. Dialectica 1

Dialectica Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I'm sorry to hear that. Honestly, I feel like things are totally up in the air. It's a guessing game the whole way through, and I doubt anyone can really have a safety school. Hang in there. You have six other schools left to hear from. Thank you both for the encouragement. Also, apparently I miscalculated: I have seven left to hear from. Thank goodness. Wait For It... 1
MattDest Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Georgia State is probably one of the more difficult MA programs to get into, from what I understand. Hang in there. Wait For It... 1
pearclick Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I considered Georgia State a perfect fit. Pretty destroyed over this.
Monadology Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Sorry to hear about the Georgia State rejections. Got my Fordham rejection in the email today. John Davenport ;_;
ta_pros_to_telos Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Claiming the Georgetown rejection. It was definitely a top choice for me Congrats to the admits, though.
Weltgeist Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) also rejected at Georgetown - I saw the others and decided to check the website (i.e. i've yet to get an email). Bummed but not terribly so; I would've loved to work with Pinkard and Ver Eecke. Edited February 26, 2014 by Weltgeist
MongooseMayhem Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Just received a UCSD rejection! As did I.
PerpetualApplicant No More Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Also got a UCSD rejection. Form email from grad adminsitration. It was one of the few schools I thought might be a better fit than Riverside, but oh well. I guess I can always get Bill Bechtel to be my external committee member.
Cottagecheeseman Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Just got an email to check the website at Yale. REJECTED! OMG SO EXCITED.
nietzschemarket Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 (edited) "Thank you very much for applying to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Yale University. I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission. As you know, the very high number of extraordinary candidates among our more than 10,600 applicants far exceeds the number of places we have in each program, so we are not able to admit many excellent candidates.We are using this system of electronic notification to communicate with you five to ten days more rapidly than we could by letter. We hope that this approach helps applicants plan their futures quickly and effectively. We wish you every success in all your endeavors." 10,600 Edited February 27, 2014 by nietzschemarket

nietzschemarket Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 (edited) Ah, that makes far more sense, thanks for the dose of reality. I'd better learn to read a bit more carefully! Edited February 27, 2014 by nietzschemarket
ta_pros_to_telos Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Yale's considerate rejection letter: "We could have wasted a stamp on you, but email allows us to reject you so much faster. Hope you don't mind." I actually lol'ed, but yeah, please don't send me a hard copy as well. philosophe 1

Gnothi_Seauton Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Claiming one of the Yale rejections!
Philhopeful Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Do we know if the Yale rejects all went out at the same time? Or are there any other implied rejects who haven't gotten an email yet? Edited February 28, 2014 by Philhopeful
MattDest Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I didn't even apply to Yale and I got rejected. Gnothi_Seauton, ianfaircloud, Silly_Socrates and 4 others 7
