Oh yea I have no problem with that I just hope they reward me something. He said my scores/LOR don't pose any danger but my chances are about 50/50. I will pray to the geoscience God  :D

Did he say when they would be making TA decisions?

Did he say when they would be making TA decisions?

I believe he said later this week but I'm not quite sure

Yes, I have. Anyway, what else I have to do. I am not going to a school this year.

By the way, for those interested - Just got a rejection from Oklahoma University.

Sorry to hear that. But it's good that you look for useful stuff to do and that will help you in the future.

Well, I hope you get it. Good luck!

I likewise have been in touch with my adviser at UT. He said he hasn't made decisions yet and would be making his decisions soon, perhaps by the end of the week. Not all hope is lost yet.

Hi everyone!

Has anyone heard from Stanford EESS who couldn't make the interview visit? I couldn't go the dates they gave, so I went a week later and haven't heard anything since. I saw that there are some results on the results page and I was wondering if those who have heard were the ones who attended the weekend?

Thanks! and good luck everyone!

In my spare time waiting for Ok State to reply.... I am having to figure out the logistics of shipping thousands of rocks internationally from door to door.... Nightmarish phone conversation with shipping companies.

Example...

Me: "Hi, I need some info on shipping pallets to England."

FedEx rep: "What country is England in?"

Decision as in he doesn't know who to recommend yet ?

You're welcome. How likely is it to get a TA position if your faculty member recommends you ?

Its probably a prerequisite for getting a TA position. Also, at least at my current and last departments, faculty members recommend many students for admission/funding (basically everyone they want to take).

You keep saying this term "first cut" I have never heard this term. I have heard first round or first round of offers. First round seems to mean one of two things either you have been selected and admitted for admission by the graduate committee in their first group of selections (first round) with TA funding, or you have been selected as admissible in the first round of selections by the graduate admissions committee and now your POI must select which of his first round admissions he wants. Has anyone else heard this term "first cut"?

Also... I am not sure if you are asking this specifically about admissions, or if you are foreign and aren't familiar with the general meaning behind the term?

He is saying that Universities have already sent out a wave of rejections, and he wasn't one of them. Whether this is really the best term, idk.

First cut meaning GPA and GRE didn't filter me out. I haven't heard anything since then though

Has anyone heard from Indiana? I was told I am an alternate there, but that my POI was "not in great need of a student right now." I assumed that meant a rejection, but it has been a few weeks and I've heard nothing else. It is probably my best research fit, even though my POI and I haven't had a lot of communication.

I spoke with their graduate coordinator on multiple occasions. She informed me that most of the first round acceptances went out last week. Further, she stated that depending on how many of those accepted students accept IU's offer there will likely be a second round of acceptances, where us wait-listed folk may have a shot.

She said several rejections have already been sent out and in my case I should "expect to receive a rejection any time soon". Possibly because accepted students have until 4/15 to decide?

Anyways, maybe you're in the same boat as I. You can always call Ms. Arcuri at IU, she is extremely kind and very helpful.

Hope this helps. I'm extremely caffeinated so I feel as though I just rambled^^. :)

Thank you. That is very helpful.

I am a little confused at what was meant by "not in great need of a student right now." I do not know if they don't want to take on a student anymore or if they don't have the funding or if they have too many students already. It could be anything, but I thought it was an interesting way to phrase it. It certainly does not inspire confidence in my acceptance.

What's with this ''no decision'' answer that all these schools are giving me ? Umass like VT said that since my POI has no funding they haven't made a decision on my application.  Why can't they just reject you ? Or wait list you

An update on my applications:

I have yet to hear any official news from any of the schools I applied to.  Unofficially, I have heard from a few POIs and graduate admissions admins.

UC Davis- I didn't receive a first round offer and POI doesn't think any of their candidates will be chosen for admission, low funding.

UCSB- POI's grant was not funded, cannot take a student unless they are self-funded.

Oregon State- Did not receive a first round offer, on the waiting list.

Arizona State- have not received an offer, website still says "in review", POI says they will notify my when they know something.

Boise State- applications were supposed to be reviewed by the end of February according to admissions admin, radio silence since then.

Back to playing the waiting game...

IDK if I have said this before but next year's cohort of students seems like it will be really small... we have only had a few students visit.
