Hi!

Does anyone know what the protocol is for emailing a school to ask status/when you will hear from them? I have two deadlines to accept offers for April 15th, neither of them are schools I'm crazy about and I'm still waiting for 5 more and just want to email the schools to see whats up, but i'm not sure what people who have been emailing have said in the past. Thanks!

Hey! I've called a few of my schools over the past few weeks and have gotten different responses from each. One of the schools was super nice and said "we're currently reviewing applications and will be sending out decisions late March/early April". The second school I called wasn't as nice about it, but I have a feeling they have been getting a lot more phone calls than the first school, since they've been sending decisions out since February and some of us applicants are starting to get antsy! She just said "we're going through applications now, keep checking your portal every day". I still haven't heard from four of my schools though, which is just absolute torture lol

I don't see anything wrong with calling them to find our your status. I had to call one of mine to find out I was rejected, but it's honestly better to just know so you can make a decision. It's nearly April so it shouldn't be too much longer for you!

anyone else getting annoyed with how long schools are taking? It's one thing if there are a lot of applications, but one of my schools said they would notify the end of February. It's now basically the beginning of April and I haven't heard anything....

Are you trying to plan your future or something? It's not like you'd have to move or anything.  ;)  Have you tried calling the schools? It might be possible to find our your status over the phone

I recommend calling. They can at least tell you where they are in the process. Good luck!

When you call schools do you generally call the graduate admissions department or the department head of the program? I'm not sure who to exactly talk to. Thanks!

Hey speechpath15, I would contact both the department and the graduate school to cover all tracks. In some schools, the graduate admissions calculates GPAs and then they pass it to the department. Sometimes, it's the department who receives everything and operates separately from the graduate school with exception to sending who they nominated so the graduate school can put the applicant in the system.

Just officially received my last decision...5 rejections and 4 wait lists! Though I'm grateful I did get some wait lists and wasn't rejected across the board, I am so not looking forward to having to continue playing the waiting game!

WILL CSUN EVER GET BACK TO US?! :/

The CSUN app committee met this morning - the committee head said there were just under 300 apps and 100 of them had a CD (major) GPA of 3.8 and above. I don't think letters are going out until late this week or maybe just after Spring break which is all of next week...

Thank you for the information! Do you know how many spots there are available this year?

Although I am still waiting on a few schools (not hopeful) I am on the same boat as you. 6 wait lists and over a dozen rejections! :(

I'm sorry to hear that, but many people get off of the wait lists every year so I will cross my fingers that you two are among those accepted. Best of luck to you both and keep your heads high.  :)

I e-mailed a school today asking when I would be hearing back since they told us we would hear about the decision at the end of February.  I got an e-mail back to call the school and talk to this specific professor.  I'm kind of nervous.  Would they have me call to hear of a rejection?  Anyone have this happen to them before?

Hi everyone,

I hope everyone is hanging in there for those who are still anxiously awaiting responses!!! This process was super tedious and nerve-wracking for sure.

I am wondering if anyone here is planning on attending San Jose State this fall. It's my only acceptance (yay) but it means I will have to move :(

I'm so nervous because I don't know a single soul there and it would be awesome to find other speechies who are maybe looking for roommates.

That's interesting. I got my rejections via e-mail and my waitlist notification via mail. So it could be a good sign. Just remain positive, I'm sure it will work out in your favor :-)

@Katha: I've lived in San Jose for over a decade, though I'll be moving away :(

If you have any questions about the area let me know!

Thank you Chandru! I actually lived there a few years ago but I know rent has increased exponentially in the south bay since then so I'm not very optimistic that I'll find something affordable unless I room mate with someone.

Still waiting too.. Do we know if they send out notifications via email or snail mail?

Wow, CSUN still hasn't sent out their admissions decisions?? That's crazy! I'm still waiting to hear back from SJSU, but I've had nothing but issues with them from the application process so I don't even care anymore. lol

I hear you, Holly44. Mine was ok, except knowing about the gre in August, which was late. I haven't heard from CSU East Bay, either. They said on an email they won't send any communications before April 10, but I heard someone was accepted on this thread. Maybe he was not an out-of-field master applicant.

CSUN is driving me insane. It's the last school I'm waiting on. Haven't heard back from Chapman but I've lost all hope for that one. I'm hoping CSUN's decision to wait until absolute last minute to give notifications will increase some our chances, since others have already accepted elsewhere haha.
