Generic_Applicant Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Two applicants () received info from their schools...? Ah, Interesting. Thanks! So if I don't get in anywhere, but still get awarded a scholarship (majorly hypothetical here), what happens? Anyone know?
reihino Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) Ah, Interesting. Thanks! So if I don't get in anywhere, but still get awarded a scholarship (majorly hypothetical here), what happens? Anyone know? I think the tri-council policy is that you are only eligible to hold the award at the school you received the award from, and if you are enrolled at that institution. If you didn't get in anywhere, you would have to forfeit the award. Also, if you got the award at school A and not school B, but you enrolled in school B for the fall, you would not be able to transfer your award from school A and hold your award at school B. I hope this helps haha, it's kind of confusing! Edited February 12, 2015 by reihino

Yes, the tri-council policies/rules have changed in recent years now you can only hold the scholarship at the institution that awarded it to you whereas before it was transferable from school to school. Now it isn't anymore because each school assess each application and awards it to people separately whereas before your one application went to your home school and you were given the award and could bring it with you to whatever school you decide to attend. But, this has its benefits since before you only had ONE chance to get it now you have many, that's why it's always a good idea to apply for tri-council to as many schools as possible since you get that many more chances increasing the probability you will get it at at least one school. Generic_Applicant Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Hmm, not sure what I am missing, but I applied through their website and listed the schools. So I can hold that award at any one of those schools, provided I get both an acceptance and the award?

Yes, you can ONLY hold the award at the institution that awarded it to you AND where you got an acceptance. For example, you applied to school A and B and applied for tri council for both those schools. School A awarded you tri council but no acceptance, school B didn't award you tri-council but offered you acceptance, you have to forfeit your tri-council at school A because you didn't get an offer.. so you can't go there and they will offer it to someone else down their list who accepts it that will attend as well. nuih Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 (edited) My grad director told us that an applicant was awarded a CGS-M last year but not an acceptance to the school, something that the applicant found out much later... I don't think it'll happen to us, since this is the 2nd? or 3rd year? since this system is in place... but yeah she admitted the whole process is very buggy...still. +confusing. Sujie Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I have checked my email probably 100 times in the past 12 hours hoping to hear from OISE (one way or the other, I just want to know!). I'm ashamed to say I kept waking up in the middle of the night to refresh my email Not sure why I expected a prof would send me an email at 4am, LOL. Same here, I was waking up several times at night to check my email %) in my case there is a time differencee, so I usually receive emails at night...

EDIT: Interesting that this is the first instance of an OISE SCCP interview being posted on the results page... maybe interviews are new for this year? A friend of mine got into the clinical child program at OISE last year and had what sounded like a relatively informal interview at OISE. I think it's more just a check done by profs to make sure you're not a robot.
LebaneseKafta Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 My friend just did her interview with OISE for School & Clinical Child Psych program. The interview IS NOT an informal process. This is a new thing that they started this year. The dept. gives the POIs questions that they have to ask the applicant they are interested in and also have their own questions that they ask. The ad com. shortlists applicants using a ranking system the ones that get through that process they pass them along to the POIs the applicant put on their application. After the POIs interview the applicants they are interested in at their discretion, they send off 1 or 2 names BACK TO THE ad com. where they again rank the applicants based on the recommendations of the POIs based on being ranked one or two and based on the ORIGINAL rank they were in the beginning and lets say the POIs send back 15 names and they can only accept 8 the ones who the ad com rank the highest get an offer. Hope this information was helpful, she said that she will hear back from them sometime in March, I know that's very vague but the POI was not sure herself when the ad com is going to sit down again.
Anoniemous Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) Has anyone heard from Windsor or Concordia clinical psychology? I know the Windsor faculty met on Feb 2, and Concordia's interview took place back in January. Just wondering when I should expect to hear back! :s Waiting anxiety is quite epic. [Edit]: Does anyone know if Ottawa experimental psychology conducts interviews? Edited February 13, 2015 by Anoniemous

Could depend on the prof or it's changed completely this year. Girl I know last year who got in had an informal interview, didn't have even the appropriate undergrad thesis but still got in probably because she's brilliant and connected well with the prof.

I'm not sure which stream you're referring to, but I know the Neuropsychology stream met on the 3rd (that's what one of my POIs told me). I've heard back from them last weekend if that helps!

Jay's Brain Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 What's up with UTSC? There's a break this coming week (aka Reading Week), so perhaps that's when the clinical faculty are planning to meet and discuss?

But this may not be true for all POIs. They had an interview day back in January.

PsychedOut30 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 +1. This is what I have heard/know as well. My POI told me they are still reviewing. But, I'm curious what your sources are because he told me that 3 weeks ago

LebaneseKafta Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Thanks for posting this... interesting - It seems so odd that they do not seem to take the references into consideration at all?! I would have thought it would be very important. I know that the references and statement are for the POIs to aid in making decisions on who they put first second etc. The stronger the refs the more likely they will put you first. I think it also may simply serve as a preliminary review before passing them to the POIs because this ranking system is only when the POIs send in the applications of the people they want. A lot of applications don't even get to the POIs desks due to incompleteness, negative refs, not high enough GPA etc..maybe?
