I've reached the point where I think I'll be fine if I get nothing but rejections. This year doesn't make the most sense economically or personally, which I think I knew when I applied. I think writing to my recommendors and being all, "Hey I got rejected from everyone!" is going to suck though.

Still, I've got three schools where I haven't gotten rejected (or just assumed a rejection). Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.

It's not even March yet! You are definitely getting ahead of yourself. Fingers crossed for your remaining schools!!

Good point. I might have to tell them not to bother with me if I get to that stage and they want an interview. I don't like engaging in high stakes negotiations in the absence of the delete button. :)

Lol, I feel you. If only life had a backspace key. I legit feel like if I were suddenly forced to detail my literary influences or something I'd end up saying uhh... I like them books, what with the pictures and such.

I keep needing to remind myself this. I so wish I already had a funded acceptance of some kind. I keep needing to remind myself that less than 50% of my schools have contacted people.

Hello everyone, hope the wait is halfway bearable.

Has anyone heard from Texas State? It's driving me insane not knowing, I never heard back from Texas State or Michigan. I know Michigan has been sending out acceptances, so I'm counting on Texas State. I'm really interested in their program, Karen Russell is the author in residence for 2016-2018 so it would be an amazing opportunity.

Anyways. Please reply if you know something!

Also, this is officially my favorite results posting so far:

YES! I was dying laughing when I saw this last night. The results page has definitely been animated recently.

Wishing for time to pass is not something that you do at my age. But waiting for grad school decisions has succeeded in making me immune to the fear of fleeting days. Come on, March, bring it on!

Fast forward to the end of March. Have heard from all programs and decided which school to attend. When suddenly, a panic attack...HOLY COW! Whose brilliant idea was it that I'm ready to go join a community of talented writers who probably know what they're doing and have been preparing for this all their lives?! How did I even get into school X?! Full on impostor syndrome, followed by neurotic e-mails to mentor. Did you really mean it when you said...? Etc. Etc.

All that on repeat until I turn screw-it-all old. :)

February is almost over, which means we're finally nearing the halfway point. Congratulations on making it this far, everyone! Even if you haven't heard any good news yet, I hope you take a moment to recognize how awesome you are for being here in the first place. We all know that MFA programs are excessively competitive, and we also know that higher degree or not, writing isn't the most lucrative of professions. You wouldn't be here if you weren't wildly passionate about writing, and that alone is something to hold on to. :D

Any word over on Draft from Irvine for fiction? I know they have hard core secrecy requests so not sure if posts would even make it to the boards...

The next time I go to their readings, I'm gonna try and find out if the person that posted this last year is attending:

UC Irvine Creative Writing, Fiction, MFA (F15) Accepted via Phone on 21 Feb 2015    25 Feb 2015
  • report spam
  • (Shhhhh, I'm breaking their vow of secrecy)

I might ask for a selfie or sth. :D

Yeah, I'm trying not to be like AHHH NEXT WEEK IS BASICALLY IT. At moments I feel that way though.

Next week better be it for me or I'm gonna throw a hissy fit in the history of hissy fits! If NYU don't notify early next week, idk, I might send them an e-mail. And it might be in all caps. I might also open up the map of NYC and give it the evil eye. I will have no choice.

I've been trying to avoid obsessing over MFA stuff by obsessing over my Oscar picks this year instead. My family thought my MFA obsessing was annoying, but I think me harassing them over who they think will win in the VFX category this year makes them wish I was back to just compulsively checking the MFA results every ten minutes in silence.

I could be wrong but I feel like there might have been something on the forums if irvine notified. What do you guys think?

Last year, they asked people not to tell, but people still told. And I'm sure the moment that person posted his/her acceptance here, they got bombarded with questions from other applicants and were forced to scramble ahead of schedule. So, it's fair to assume they've learned their lessons. My guess regarding the slight delay in notifications is: some of the attractive fellowships that UCI has for graduate students is managed by the graduate school, requires nomination by the department, has to go through another selection process and compete with nominations from other departments, etc...which takes time. UCI being among top rated programs, they probably want to attract the best candidates, so they want to be able to offer their best incentives. But the best incentives aren't in their hands, so they have to wait. That's just my guess. It is, of course, possible that this year's admitted students are just so good at keeping secrets. :)

All Caps, @holycat? Had to laugh when I read this. Thanks for that :D

Saw the following while looking through Iowa's websites in case I missed anything:

"Decisions on admissions and financial aid awards are made in March or early April for the following academic year."

EARLY APRIL??? Is that for realsies? I'll just go ahead and forget this whole thing ever happened because I can't think about it for that long Not Knowing. I've been doing well the last week and a half only checking in a handful of times, but I don't know how long I can sustain that.

Hope you're all faring well!

I think most of them are mailed out in early March--maybe the early April thing is re: waitlist positions? Although it does seem that waitlists go out along with acceptances. So who knows. I suspect they just don't want a bunch of emails/calls from applicants asking their status.

Anyone have news from Draft or elsewhere on New Writers Project, LSU, or U of Florida? I know there's been one acceptance reported here for both of the first two and a waitlist for Florida, but seems like there'd be more reports...

Also, hello! Been lurking for a few days. Thanks for all the shared info!

LSU: One acceptance in Fiction on the 15th of Feb.

New Writers Project: One acceptance in Fiction on the 23rd of Feb.

U of Florida: One waitlist on 16th of Feb. in Fiction (there is a chance this is actually South Florida even though it says U of Florida... given that it was posted when all of the South Florida waitlists went out...)

I wouldn't mark any of these programs as "done," especially if you're applying in poetry.

I'm getting so frustrated. I just want to move on with my life!

To be fair, before I discovered this website I didn't expect to find out for another week or two. But still. These schools!!

Is anyone still waiting to hear from Michigan?! It seems like everyone has heard back by now, and then there's me. Maybe I should contact them today or tomorrow.

I haven't heard from them. I would hold off calling until tomorrow unless you're anxious. Good news - it's still early enough for them to get us our rejections.

Well, I just got my Michigan rejection.

Don't get down, buddy. These things don't mean that you're not good. That's something we'll all have to learn. The first step in recovery is to find an abandoned mine and howl out your rage deep within the bowels of the Earth until the Hardy Boys come to investigate the Spectre of Willbertsonson's Hollow.
