So, is it safe to assume that we probably aren't going to hear anything new over the weekend? Or do some schools also send out on Saturdays?  I know someone mentioned earlier in the thread about getting a phone call on a Saturday, but I just can't imagine that's the norm. (Though, I suppose anything is possible.) I'll have to resign myself to more radio silence for the next few days...

I kind of wish notifications came through snail mail as in the olden days. It would have to be more sane than this endless email–portal–gradcafe cycle I'm on.

Hey @Tiff's girl congrats! I think the interviews are, like any job, a decider between candidates. You can be great on paper, but they want to see I guess that those ideas are yours, that you can have your opinions challenged, and what you are like as a person to see how you will fit in with a small group for 6 years etc.

For preparing I would prepare like any job interview. Don't just list your skills, have examples to back them up. Read your POI's work and see how their work relates to your career and how their methodology could develop your approach to your thesis. Be ready to be questioned about everything to do with your proposed thesis.

This is also a good opportunity for you if your POI is on the panel because you don't want to be stuck with someone throughout a PhD that you can't work with. Like any job interview make sure you have questions for them that show you have thought through the next 6 years, what you need to make your research successful, and how they come into that. Good luck!!

Thanks for responding! What is a POI?

Also, if anyone wants to message me to ask about Hunter, in general, feel free because the same department runs the undergraduate and graduate programs. I am taking a graduate course at Hunter this semester, and a lot of the professors also teach undergraduate courses, so I know a number of them personally. Many professors also overlap doing undergrad at various CUNY schools, grad at Hunter, and grad at CUNY Grad, where I took a grad course last semester.

Person of Interest. It means your potential supervisor in the program.

Can I ask what area you're specialising in and who your POI are? Hahaha or is it still undercover :)

Specialty is early modern/Baroque, but my undergrad research was focused on feminist theory and feminist art criticism which is what I’m most interested in doing in graduate school.

Apparently UCLA Art History programme only funds ONE international student a year. That's what one of the POI's told me.
I'm just wondering when that one person will post on the admissions board so I can just get my answer directly without having to wait.

By the way, it was an email from her POI. He said that official decisions will be sent out in a few days.

Hi - not to be ceaselessly annoying, but is there a sense of what the next 'few days' entails? So many of us are biting our nails, eagerly waiting for some movement on the results page, or a call from a 617 area code.

Given that she got the email on Friday and that other people have been notified, I am afraid that you are likely to have been rejected if you have not had any news as of yet... If you want to receive confirmation, I think you might want to go ahead and email the department at this point

Longtime lurker chiming in here. Thanks for calling and sharing the intel @storiadell'arte

Is it alarmist to assume that it's all over based on the results entries? or is it naive to be hopeful despite them?  Looking back at past years it would seem that acceptances at some schools go out in waves - last year for example someone posted a Harvard admit four days after the first acceptances from them appeared.

Related do we think its over for U Chicago hopefuls lol

I'm fine with the Harvard implied rejection but holding out hope for Chicago... results are really weird this year tho. Seems like one or two people hearing early and unofficially and then silence for a few days... gah!

I think the hope isn't unwarranted. The releases definitely do come in waves, firstly. I happen to know that Penn and Princeton won't be releasing until closer to the middle of the month (so why not also Harvard, right?), and the results page shows two Harvard admits - one who was unofficially notified (congrats!) and another that was probably a troll post on the 31st. Don't give up! And in any case, we'll know soon.

I don't have any insight to UChicago, sorry, I didn't apply there. :(

Yeah thanks for the info! I'm not super worried, I know its still early days and I already have one acceptance so my soul isn't quite dying of anticipation like it was before. It'll be over sooner than we know it, and nothing's gonna change the outcome now anyway. Also who trolls a website like this?? Pure cruelty...

Good luck in your applications! May all of our waits be swift and pleasant :)

Thanks, lmenol. I took your advice and contacted the department by phone. For those who are wondering (and still somewhat hopeful), I was told official decisions will be released via email later this week.

Thanks for doing this, @storiadell'arte ! I've given up all hope on Harvard and at this point just need closure so I can move on.

Anyone else interviewing with JHU today? I'm just sitting here waiting for the time to come and dying of anxiety / trying to prepare for it without knowing what I should be preparing for!

echoing @unanachronism's sentiments here. Someone in my program apparently got a call on Friday from Harvard also but I don't believe they shared it on the results sheet. So that's two legit entries and one likely troll.

Speaking of: TrOLLS BE GONE! Earnest fretters are over here trying to gain accurate insights from the deeply flawed, partial data represented by the results sheet! Jeez!

Someone also got a phone call from Harvard today (Feb 5) according to the results page. This would indicate that even if you didn't get a call/email last week there still may be hope!

I'm also praying there is a second wave of acceptances for UChicago even though that's not likely, haha.

Does anyone know why acceptance notifications seem to differ based on student? Why do some people receive phone calls, others an email, others a notification to check the website (these seem to be the three looking at past years for Harvard). International student here trying to grapple with this application season.

As someone already in grad school, I can say that a lot of people are offered admittance to an MA program (especially at Chicago, Columbia, and NYU) if you haven't been rejected or admitted yet. If its something to keep your hopes up (I know how devastating this process can be and how arbitrary things can be). Hang in there! It'll work out!

Judging from the results page, I guess it’s all over for the UChicago’s hopefuls… I read my rejection letter on the website.

The rejection wave for Univ of Chicago is brutal on the results page. My commiserations.
Now I go chew on my fingers while waiting for mine.

Yeah, it looks like a massacre of hope(fuls). Where are you applying to?

To the two people that posted about UCSC, congrats! :) Care to share who contacted you (POI\DGS) and when (one said today and the other yesterday)?

I would also love to know who your POIs are, if possible (if you don't feel comfortable in the forum, a PM would be great too). Thanks, and congrats again!

Berkeley and UCLA (top choices for my field), then Yale and then Graduate Center CUNY.
