So I was waitlisted for a phd in social work in March. I waited past April 15th with no update then called the school-who told me that "decisions have been finalized (she) believes" and that I should "contact the dean of the school" so I emailed the Dean of the school very respectfully for an update and .....so answer at all. So first, this seems like a no, right? Secondly, they waitlisted me which means a potential acceptance and hopefully some respect for me as a candidate....now they ignore me completely? How is this professional? I am perplexed? Is silence a No?

Most would not hire a Phd because they would have to pay more! A downside to the Phd for sure!

Just wondering....Is anyone waiting for upitt waitlist final decision for the PhD social work? Did anyone decline?

I heard from my potential advisor at upitt that I should be hearing sometime around the 15th....This is the final waiting I believe!!!! Let's keep our fingers crossed!!

I want to do my research on opioid addiction with Professor Cochran. I also know a current student who has told me extensively about the opportunities one has there. It would be an honor to go there...For sure. Did you like it?

I am waitlisted at Upitt and I just have to tell myself that this wait be be super long and I may not hear back for a long time. I am trying to tell myself this over and over again I wish I knew how many people were waitlisted and I may reach out to ask at some point. It is a strange feeling to be so in between.

I got a waitlist status letter officially today (after hearing it on the phone Thursday) and the letter is so respectful. I hope every day that I get this chance! What a wait his will be!!!

Penn was where I found my love for social work....great school with excellent connections and faculty. I never regretted it for a second.

I called upitt just to ask them about a timeline and they were super friendly...I'm wait listed for for the PhD ! Here's hoping and fingers crossed that I get it

I believe that there were 2 main reasons why I chose the Phd over the DSW. the first is that I am RESEARCH focused! I have done my share of clinical and now I want to take my clinical back ground and inform my research work with it. A DSW is unfunded and VERY clinical focused....a entirely different degree and mindset, if you ask me! The unfunded part is important- a Phd program is PAYING you to do some rigorous social research/teaching! Its a big factor to consider!

Honestly, I applied to BU back in 2013 so I am truly no expert but I do not find that BU nor any other MSW program is too competitive. I believe that if you have the drive and you can articulate it through writing, then you are OK. also why not reach out to a faculty member who has similar interests to you? Its worth a shot -
