I actually did that for 3 schools. Yes yes...shame on me, but after applying and getting ready to send off the supplemental materials I realized that these 3 schools were either too expensive or not worth attending.
-
I recently got sick again. I'm not falling asleep as easily anymore either.
-
You can try explaining it to them, but I do think they would ask you to find another LOR before they review your application or give you full consideration.
-
Since I don't have all 3 LORs submitted yet, I may only get schools emailing for me the 3rd LOR. Other than that I don't expect any emails till the end of January.
-
Your admission isn't always in the Professors hands. Last year, I contacted a few Professors and they said that they would definitely take a look at my application after I get through the first round of admissions and that they don't choose students till they're accepted.

I'm paying $15k per year, plan on being there for maybe 2 or 2 1/2 years. Living expenses will be about $700/month. I will be roughly $60k in debt. This is the cost for my dream school anyways. If I attend in California, then I will not be in debt at all. I will be doing whatever I can to pay for this and will be taking on summer internships. If I do summer internships, then I will probably be making $10k each summer. I expect to pay everything off my first year after graduating..

I have only received one response from a school when I did that, but I was already in communication with them before.

I sent 4 emails off to Professors I had in the past and one happily responded. She will be my replacement and I do hope that she gets it written at least by next week. I have a lot of faith in her and she genuinely cares about her students. Thanks for your concern!! Although if nothing works out and I end up getting rejected, I may need your psych expertise to straighten myself out.

I recommend getting those publications in. Don't worry too much about your results from your BS or MS since they'll be paying more attention to your research. I'm not too familiar with your school, but I do know you guys are ranked at least in the top 50 I think in the world. I don't know anything about getting into ETH, but it is such a good school and they do really awesome research in areas I'm interested in. I just don't have the qualifications to apply to such a place. Since you aren't applying yet, I do hope you successfully strengthen your application by the time you submit your own applications. Good luck!

In all honesty, I don't think you'll be able to get into most of the top schools you listed. If you're going from MS to PhD then you need to have publications, at least that is what is expected of you. Don't be discouraged though, but don't expect to be a competitive candidate. I thought my Professor taught there, but he taught at the National University of Singapore.

Our situation really does sound alike. Except you beat me by one month on giving materials. I gave him my materials in September and spoke to him in June about a re-application. On the phone he said he found it more urgent to complete my recommendations to respond to my emails, so that gave me the idea that he was really working on them. At this point, I have no idea...but I do plan on giving him a call tomorrow. I hope things work out for you and me.

Always nice to find another badminton lover in the US. If you ever come to Northern California, let me know and I'll take you to a few badminton clubs here. Although I'm not at the same skill level I was before, my skills have degraded.
-
I don't know if I'll still be here. I would like to and perhaps give other people a little advice or scare them to do well on their apps. Make sure they have reliable LORs too.
-
I'm learning the art of pick up. I also competed in nationally ranked tournaments for badminton.

I wish I knew this answer, I guess we're not on their priority list and we just get bumped down to the point where they will only write one if they have absolutely nothing to do or bored out of their mind. The same happened last year for me, the Professor said he sent them and the department tells me they haven't received it. Even when it was supposed to be submitted directly by email. I'm not exactly sure how much emails the department receives on a daily basis, but I don't think it would get lost in their inbox. I have currently found a replacement on my part, but I need to let my 3rd LOR know that unless he's already written it that I will not be using him as a LOR anymore.
-
I'm still a bit frustrated about my missing LOR, but my hobbies normally include the following: 1) Playing badminton (no...not that backyard stuff) 2) Computer graphics: animation, modeling, crowd simulation, particle simulation, shader development 3) Topcoder (programming competition) 4) Playing video games 5) I'm really into self help stuff now (books, audio, video) 6) Apply for a job (only applying for one job actually and I'm sure they'll understand if I tell them I'm going to grad school)
-
My weakness would be my missing letter of recommendation, then my GPA, low verbal score, and unranked University.
-
I did not mention it at all, why would you mention it? Just talk about the things you did from the time you got waitlisted till your reapplication.
-
I may do that if it comes down to that. I'm not a very good writer so I may need someone to write one for me. Any takers? I'll send you my SOP and resume.
-
Here is what my dream school said to me today: "The letters I have for you are from ___________ and ___________. I'm still missing the third. Your application will still be looked at, but you will not be given full consideration until we receive the 3rd letter. You can have your recommender email the letter as a pdf to me at my email address."

I wish it did...I'm still emailing and calling. My calls go straight to voice mail and my emails remain unanswered...next week I may show up at his office demanding an explanation...
-
I sent off emails to 2 different Professors. Hopefully, either comes through with a response.
-
I emailed one of the Professors I took, but I had asked him before and he never did respond to my email.
-
I would if it were possible. The Professors I took as an undergrad have gone into retirement and I have no idea how to contact them. The email system also changed, my school's email was pretty bad to start with hence the change. One of the Professors that is still there actually doesn't like me and I didn't do too well in any of his classes. He teaches the tough classes and is just overall not good at teaching. I tried calling him three times today. Finally left a voice message and then about an hour later he calls back. I pick up the phone after a few rings and he hangs up. I call back and it went straight to voice mail... I'm very depressed as it is and my friend says I might have clinical depression. I feel like my life is going down the drain and I've wasted so much time with this.

Embark Application System for LORs
joro replied to fancypants09's topic in Letters of Recommendation
Contact the grad admissions directly and ask if you can have your LOR just submit it them.
